Ill tell you what happened. You ve got 11 maybe 12 decent to great players and not much more. Matip wasn't there and Lucas was for example.

Forget the title. Forget top 4. This season is over. 9 points off Man City in 4th alone. Unacceptable. I don't care who's in charge and what the circumstances.

Top 4 over get a grip man! Title is over for sure. Which is shocking at this stage of the season. Gonna take the club and Mourinho a while to sort out was has been a lot of mistakes, even before Fergie retired!

Top 4 is effectively over. No way this team is recovering 9/10/11 point difference over any of those teams above who are all more effective at winning games than us. We simply can't see out slender wins to pick up the points.

All team will drop points above us. We need to find some consistency. Which will come. City are 9 ahead with a much much tougher fixture list than us. And are missing Otamendi, Aguero, Fernandinho and Kompany. And have hardly been amazing themselves. Get to the end of Jan before writing off top 4 just yet.

Other teams will drop points. But so will we equally or more. Our defence isn't good enough to see out games. I rule out top 4 now but I'll allow you to stay optimistic about it.

The only dying hope of CL next season is winning the Europa League, but I think that will be a huge battle in itself when we face a good team.

So you've now finally flipped on the Europa League? :O. :).

I don't know whether this is a good sign you're finally growing as a football fan or just a backhanded compliment to a great completion out of desperation? oO).
 
United also have pitiful +3 goal difference, while all the top 5 teams are in the double digits. So in reality you'll need 1 point extra to get any higher than your current 6th place.

I'll bow to your superiority on this one and say that whilst I'm not the biggest fan of it, the competition deserves more respect than I have been showing it. To be fair Mourinho and United generally have shown the Europa League a lot of that this season, we have always fielded pretty much full strength teams.

But all in all, we have to go all out for Europa League this season now. It's our highest priority at this point by far in my view.

I know what you're trying to say but that's not the word. But it's WAY too early in the week to even try get my head into gear to think of an apt replacement.

Yup. Been very pleasing to see Utd and Southampton following on from L'pool last year in treating it with full respect. Maybe we're learning? Maybe the carrot of automatic Champions League qualification into the groups fro the winner is changing English attitudes? Whatever it is, it's good to see a change in English clubs attitude toward one of the European majors.

That said, I sadly somehow can't see 'Spurs doing the same in February. If they even make the Europa League spot in their group!

Definitely, I'd say so for all the clubs competing in it, not just the English ones. The prize of a CL spot certainly gives it higher value now in my opinion.

Real shame that it's even come to that point that incentives had to be dangled. But in today's MEGA business first, sport second game I'm naive enough to see why clubs wouldn't put the Champions League riches for just being in the groups over going all the way in the Europa League and earning a pittance in reality.

UEFA are at least recognising that and trying to boost it again with the Champions League group spot for the winners and closing the financial gap. It's still disportionate to the Champions League, but not nearly as bad as it once was and it'll close further over the next few years which should make it a much more attractive option again.

The even sadder thing than having to do that is the real talk of offering the FA Cup winners a Champions League spot. When still for me the greatest knock-out cup competition in the World needs to offer incentives to clubs to take it seriously it's a very sad state of affairs indeed. But that's a whole other issue, and nicely segues into reminding everyone that the draw for the third round is at 7 PM BST tonight on BBC2/ BT Sport.

New lower league ground I've not been to please football Gods. Can't wait!
