The Manchester United Thread

There's definitely some remaining questions about whether Mourinho still has it. For one, his bizzare freezing out of players should definitely raise some eyebrows. There's also no escaping the fact that he botched start of the season to such an extent, that you're still firmly planted at 6th despite title winning run of games.

All that said, he has turned the ship around for now, in terms of not just the results, but the style of play and general atmosphere around the club. And that's not nothing.

I still thinking that Morinho is a time bomb ticking away till explosion, but at the end of the day, nobody will care as long as he gets results. As much as I liked LVG, he could never find some sort of consistency. Some games the team would look like Barcelona in the making, some days the limpdick style of play made me want to poke my eyes out. Right now the situation may be dire but you can at least see exciting games and consistent potential.

That's not how things work now I'm afraid. You're either with him, or against him. He's either the saviour, or ****. United didn't lose tonight, it was an alternate victory.

Yeah I don't think many will disagree that not knowing his team at the start cost him and us dearly. That coupled by some ludicrously bad finishing is why we are 6th despite largely being very good. The difference between him and the rest is that he is still in a very good position to salvage things. Ticking time bomb? Probably, but then again, most of them are, for many different reasons

Ii never claimed it was fact. I don't like being called a troll for saying something unpopular. I wasn't mocking Mourinho at all. It was a criticism.

I understand that you didn't mean to troll, and was just stating your opinion, but you came across as trying to troll either way. Purely because you are the first to critiszie Mou in such a harsh way for months after our-just-ended 17 win streak.

I know I'll get roasted for this, but I still find it hard to get excited over this competition. I mean yes it's good we've made it to the final but out of all the competitions in England we're in it's definitely the least prestigious by a mile. Unless you count something like the community shield but that's a friendly in reality.

Don't knock it. As of right now, it's Utd's best route back into Europe next year.

Wish Martials agent would **** off! Mou has told him he will play on Sunday. He said on MUTV he was happy and don't want to leave. Then his tird agent is saying he's not happy and could leave in summer. Listen to the boss man Mourinho!

Also, Im sorry but I can see Martial's point re Mourinho ...
Martial doesn't have a point. That's the whole point! The only thing Martial has said recently is that he's happy and doesn't want to leave. All this talk is from his agent and nobody else, trying to put pressure on the club and the manager. And let's be honest he's hardly been consistent and anywhere near like he was last season. It's simple pull your socks up and perform when played or like Mourinho said we have numbers and will play other options.

MOURINHO'S TEAM NEWS UPDATE FOR WIGAN TIE

Sergio Romero and Anthony Martial will start for Manchester United in Sunday’s FA Cup fourth-round tie at home to Wigan Athletic, manager Jose Mourinho has revealed.

The boss has confirmed he will rest no.1 David De Gea for the Old Trafford clash against Warren Joyce’s Latics, providing Argentina international Romero the chance to make his sixth appearance of the season, with recent loan returnee Joel Pereira set to be named on the bench.

Martial, meanwhile, will come back into the side after missing the last two games and Mourinho has challenged him to keep his place for next Wednesday's Premier League encounter against Hull City.

Speaking after Thursday’s EFL Cup semi-final aggregate victory over the Tigers, Mourinho said: "This is the second match for us in the FA Cup and I want to do it in a serious way. We have to play with a very good team; the only player that is out is De Gea – I’ll give him a few days off. I will play Romero, I will put Joel on the bench and apart from that I go with a good team because we want to try to beat them. Anthony will play on Sunday and if he plays magnificently, he will play against Hull in the next match – it’s simple."

Continuing on the theme of team news, Mourinho stated: "I will make some changes – that’s obvious. We play Hull again three days after Wigan but I’m going to play a good team with the responsibility to give fans a good performance at home and with the responsibility to try to win against Wigan."

Former Reserves coach Joyce makes a quick return to Old Trafford, having ended his eight-year spell with the Reds to take the reins at Wigan in November.

"We know the difficulty to play against Championship teams," Mourinho told reporters. "We played Wigan already in pre-season and now they are with Warren, who knows us well and will come with special motivation to play against his old club.

"I worked at the club with him for a few months but it was enough to know he’s a very nice man, a very passionate football man. He took the risk, accepted the challenge and left a good situation at this club.

"His team will be very aggressive, very well organised defensively and also emotional, like the manager is emotional, so it will be a difficult match."

I just want to comment on Jose, he's actually gone mental hasn't he! He actually believed Utd drew 1-1 last night he's gone bonkers! A few weeks ago he stated the unbeaten run didn't matter as they were drawing too many games however last night said "we drew 1-1, i only saw 2 goals our 18 game unbeaten run still stands". I loved the man for what he done for Chelsea but unfortunately i am seeing what all other opposition fans saw in him (including Utd fans themselves) he's a grade A ***** he really is. Multiple times now he's said "some teams have a lovely week playing 1 game, resting for a couple of days and then be fully focused on the next" obviously having a sly dig at Chelsea. WELL YOUR PART OF THE F*****G REASON WE'RE IN THAT SITUATION!!!! Yet journalists sitting in on these press conferences are scared shitless of saying and questioning his comments its embarrassing! I don't know what he thinks he's trying to do with these comments because do we think Conte sitting pretty on top of the table even acknowledges his quotes?

He's very quickly tarnishing he's reputation at Stamford Bridge not that i believe its something he cares much about but its just a massive shame. He will end up going out the game as the most successful manager of all time but he'll go with no or very little friends and acknowledgement and that's a shame.

MANCHESTER UNITED ENTER 2017 DALLAS CUP

Manchester United have confirmed entry in this year's Dallas Cup, the oldest and most prestigious international youth tournament in the United States.

The Reds took a team to the tournament in 2012 and 2013, during Warren Joyce's tenure as Reserves coach, and have participated some eight times in total over the years.

Interim boss Nicky **** is set to oversee the trip between 9 and 16 April with his side competing in the Gordon Jago Super Group, alongside the likes of 2016 champions Everton, Coritiba, Fluminense, Maccabi Haifa and FC Dallas.

United reached the final in 2012, with Michael Keane, now at Burnley, scoring the goal in a bad-tempered 2-1 defeat to Coritiba, which saw the team reduced to nine men. A year later, Adnan Januzaj and James Wilson were part of a younger squad which travelled to Texas.

"It's a big test going over there and playing South American teams," **** told ManUtd.com. "It'll be an Under-19 team and they're travelling out of their environment, going to a new place. Some people have never been to Dallas before so it's an exciting time.

"It's a tournament I feel, and a lot of people at this club feel, is an important part of their development. It's very rare we play against South Americans in the Academy over in this country. So it's massive for us and good we've agreed to go now."

He was talking about the Christmas schedule. When there are no European games. The angriest rant of an accurate point that I've seen for some time.

Are you trying to get a job in the Daily Sun? XD

It's an observation I've made through the years. Mourinho is a propaganda artist. I've heard of some fans turning on Martial who single handedly fired United into Europe. The man management of Martial has been poor. He blames referees, the FA and makes the fantasy paranoid of some vast conspiracy against him. He'll bench Castilla, Martial, Costa, Hazard to make sure he's the only leader of the dressing room. He'll then freeze out players comfortably better than those starting (De Bruyne, Filipe Luis, Mkhitaryan, Lukaku). He'll then convince supporters that the club. Is under attack and that he's the saviour. He hasn't done anything tactically relevant since 2012.

Superstars were signed in the summer and United were expected to win the league after spending £150 Million. United would have shocking displayed vs Chelsea (h), Liverpool (a), City (h), Watford (a) and many other fixtures. You're 6th place in December despite expectations of challenging/winning through league and Mourinho gets a free pass. I think there needs to be a reality check. Mourinho is no longer good enough and Pogba/Ibra didn't deliver until October. Arguably the best United player (Mhkitaryan) was left for entire months. Where are Shaw, Rashford and Martial? Plenty of arrogance at the start of the season.

"If, at the end of the season, somebody who is champion has been better than us, then great - that is football. In this moment as Manchester United football club, we cannot speak differently. We are going to fight for the title.

"Many more think the same way as us but they are afraid to say it. They prefer not to, and prefer to play a defensive game in words. They prefer to say, or to hide, or play with the words, defensively. That's not our way. I don't think that's Manchester United.

Be very careful United fans. Soon, you'll fall into the trap of defending his every move. He did that at Inter, Chelsea and Madrid. Not he's doing it with United. Mourinho isn't stupid, he knows exactly what he's doing. I'm going to make a prediction that he'll eventually be sacked. Under no circumstances should any young talent be sold, especially Martial. The gap in quality between Martial and Dembélé/Mbappe/Lemar is miniscule compared to the gap between Mourinho and better coaches .

He was a great coach in a prime cut cannot go near GOAT. He is trophy record is good but doesn't stack up to a Bob Paisley. He hasn't been an innovative coach at all either. It's hard to see what he's good at. He was good with the low block a decades ago but decent coaches have worked round with positional play.

You're so bipolar Damola, it was only a few weeks ago you said Mourinho's side were the best team in the league, and he's going to go on and build an elite squad over the next few windows and presumably win trophies.

At least stay consistent with your bold opinions

If I had to shift him or Mourinho, I'd shift Mourinho in a heartbeat. Don't fall for Mourinho's propaganda. Keep your best u-21 talent.

They had been the best team in the league for a 6 week stretch base upon individual quality. I've been wholly consistent. The squad built will be great but Mourinho isn't a good enough coach. I never said he was good enough. The team will win trophies one way or another. I'm shocked he's pulling this with Martial. I'm not bipolar at all. I haven't contradicted anything. I've stated before that Van Gaal is a far superior coach. Edit: The only useful part of Mourinho are his connections (agent).
