The Manchester United Thread

That's why we have such a big squad and a good quality to bring in also. Will only get better next season also our quality and depth.

And yet Utd remain moored in 6th.

That 'quality' isn't as great as it's made out to be right now. Next season after another summer of mad spending it might well be different. But this squad isn't anything like top notch at this moment in time. Ferguson's sides scared you from back to front. This one, outside of one or two exceptions, just doesn't.

If it was you wouldn't of been nearly full strength in a dead European tie through the week.

*Edit* Along with City it's stronger than Arsenal, Chelsea, L'pool and Tottenham no question. (Who all have as strong a first XI as anyone but then there's a far bigger drop off in depth outside of 2 or 3 players.). But compared to the major European clubs this Utd squad is lagging a long way behind.

Yep, certainly helps, but my biggest shock is how often Jose has continued to utilise first team players in games where he really didn't need to.

Take Thursday against St. Etienne, you didn't need to play the best players, Pogba, Mkhi, Zlatan etc etc. Could of gave them all a nice rest for today against Southampton.

Obviously todays result will influence whether that was a good decision or not, if we lose it is only right people will point to that.

Missing the point somewhat, take a look since new year, Liverpool have been a downward slide in terms of results. In comparison to United we've been in form and looking like we're going to continue that. You can put it down to many things, but personally I think your lack of depth and the style Klopp wants has took its toll. Luckily for you, the schedule seems kind from now till the end to give you gaps between games where you can rest. So there's a good chance you can pick it back up again.

Im sure he will say when we finish above them that he is not worried about us ;)

Group stage for Champions League is fine, but it should be only actual champions with a brutal elimination phase in a knockout format, so there's only maybe 4 groups, none of this 50 million groups with every rich club automatically qualifying.

Any changes they make is only to benefit their pockets, just like FIFA and the World Cup. They'll pretend it's in the best interest of the game but in all honesty 48 teams in a World Cup is absurd.

L'pool's down turn those two months had nothing to do with the physical demands. Through every game they've still been far fitter and going at the end of games more than any opponent they've faced despite the drop off in results. It's a lazy assertion that gets peddled in the media and run with by naive fans who don't look at the facts.

Their downturn came to losing half their side through injuries (which weren't the result of work rate), all key players, and the quality in depth not being there of a similar level to step in and replace that which lead to a complete loss in confidence and the overall style of play changing with players not wanting to take risks and get forward like they had been. Tottenham last time out, with all that first XI back together finally, was the first time that all changed and the L'pool pre-injury of the first quarter of the season returned with a vengeance.

You're right about the lack of quality depth but WHOLLY wrong about the perceived physical demands being a factor.

But then if Chelsea had lost even one or two key players, never mind the 4 or 5 L'pool have been contending with out of their first XI, they'd be nothing like the amount of points clear they currently are. Let's take two key players Pogba and Herera out of your midfield like Lallana and Henderson, Zlatan and Mikhtarian out like Sturridge, Coutinho or Sadio for a couple of months/ month respectively and see how the depth at Utd holds up. All relative.

There's little difference between first XI's in the current top 6. But there's a bigger drop off in everyone outside of City and Utd behind that.

I'm not even going to get into another round of B/S with you on Utd's recent run. We dissected that and everything to come through the week which you just flippantly dismissed as it didn't suit your view so it's a fruitless discussion with you.

Ah, another snark on Jose from Scouse followed by a pointless argument between Scouse and zz. Back to the slopes it is.

I just go elsewhere when it happens. I left school a long time ago :)
I've no time for "My Daddy is bigger than your Daddy".

any 1 else got a bad feeling about today

I still have the jitters over that nightmare I mentioned earlier in the thread :@

Had a nightmare last night.
Southampton took the lead in the 20th minute through Redmond, Ibra got the equalizer just after half time, then Shane Long came off the bench and netted a screamer in the 85th.

Scorecast with Redmond to score first and a 2-1 Southampton win is 125/1 :O

Let's hope we get the productive Lingard today, not the passive one. In his defence, he does seem to generally turn up at Wembley; Community Shield goal, FA Cup winning goal, etc.

A big positive is Mata is more than likely to be in his favourite position, in that #10.

Defo a Wembley player. His running should create space for the other attackers. Happy with that team. Good to have Rooney, Rashford, Fellaini to change things. And Carrick if 4231 isn't working.
