The Manchester United Thread

I wouldn't know zz.

Apparently, none of your rivals know about fatigue.

L'pool having the heaviest schedule in Europe last year with nottin' like the depth of Utd's squad doesn't come into it.

Well they certainly don't this season as they went out of Europe too quick. (6)

Its a nonsense excuse because United are playing in the Europa League where there is a massive disparity in the quality of their squad with that of rival teams as well as the financial resources they can deploy. Considering that they have these massive systemic advantages that makes them runaway favourites to win the competition, they really should stop complaining.

Also now that they are offering a CL berth to the Europa League winners, they really ought to take a look at whether it is fair for big clubs like Chelsea, United, Madrid, City etc. to compete in the Europa League considering the huge gulf between them and the likes of Sevilla or Ajax.

Also considering that Mourinho has to win the Europa League to get a CL berth and save his job after spending a world record transfer fee, I would love to see his reaction considering all the pot shots he took at Rafa for winning the Europa League with Chelsea.

So you would impose a random arbitrary point at which a team was to good for the europa league one of the stranger ideas I've ever heard, also given your stated example of Sevilla won it 3 years in a row surely that is a massive sign there is a decent gulf between them and everyone else in the Europa league and they should be past your arbitrary point of ability for it

Even if united aren't in the champions league next year I'd still be very confident that Mourinho is the manager next year, also united can still get into the top four through the league

The Europa League has lost lots of attraction in recent years and because of the champion's league bonus there might be more incentives for larger clubs to invest into it. However for a club like Ajax it doesn't matter too much. The last time they managed to get into the quarter finals was around 04. Yet they still manage to get into the CL by becoming champions or playing qualifications.

I would expect BPL clubs to do better and maybe dominate the Europa League, because they aren't good enough for the CL, yet have so much more money and squad depth that the Europa League should be a very reasonable target for a trophy. But what shouldn't be underestimated is that a club like Man U will be the club to beat in the tournament and every team wants to play against them and give that extra effort.

A fixture pile up is still a fixture pile . This doesn't change just because you don't like the teams involved

I've read this three or four times and I don't fully understand your reasoning here mate?

Clubs with better resources shouldn't be allowed to enter as it's unfair on clubs that don't have the same? That goes against the whole ethos of sport and competing surely? Where do you draw the line? Do away with the FA Cup as the disparity between a non-league side like Lincoln facing Arsenal is massively weighted in Arsenals favour? Repeating myself, but surely the whole ethos of competitive sport is for a club like Lincoln to pit their wits against an Arsenal? And improve themselves as a club in all aspects from so doing? Do away with the World Cup as the bigger population Country's have loads more resources than the smaller ones?

Where does it stop?

You can't exclude a club from a competition just because they happen to be stronger than other clubs.

United win the Europa League this year they'll of won it on merit. As Rostov showed in coming so close to at the least taking the tie to extra time Thursday, 2 legged straight knockout European football is a great leveler and the truest test there is.

How is it a strange idea? Don't you feel there is something terribly unfair when you have clubs competing against one another with suh a huge gulf in quality and resources between them? We can't do anything about it in league competitions but at least for a European competition we should.

Also I never said the line is arbitrary. I have no idea what the cut-off should be but if Sevilla are above it then so be it. I am okay with thay.

If it was some mickey mouse competition then fair enough but its not its a European competition the second most prestigious club competition in the world. Everyone bemoans teams not taking it seriously and then United do and suddenly its unfair thats not right.

Its europe the best vs the best or whatever, the competition may have lost some of its shine but you only have to look at some of the teams that have won this comp down the years to see what a prestigious competition it really is.

Our u18s drew 2-2 with City. Great game from what I've read Gomes made it 1-0 then City scored a own goal after some great build up play.

Sweat. Better if Utd had held out like to leave City starting on a loss but a draw works.

Leaves L'pool topping the table after this mornings 3-0 over Blackburn in the wind and rain.

Can't believe it wasn't televised. As City didn't have the broadcasting equipment ready.

Funny, as much as City have by far and away the best set up in the league at Youth level with what they've built over the road from the Ethiad, still the simplest things continue to have City being City.

This is a club that has full video boards up for youth games in the Academy stadium in front of a few hundred people. And they can't sort out the club broadcast. When L'pool went there the 23's, nobody could get in as the fella' with the key had locked up and gone for a cuppa'! I **** you not. No matter how much money you have. If the lad with the key goes for a brew, you wait outside!

City always finding ways to remember they'll always be City.

Great result for us today. And with City or Pool dropping points tomorrow. And Spurs with a tough game. Top 4 is in our own hands imo.
