The Manchester United Thread

anyone remember the old ceefax transfer rumour pages where they had a phoneline for you to ring and get news?man, some of the ***** they came up with

Clubcall. And they were relatively sane, believable rumours compared to the 99% utter garbage that goes on now with transfer windows!

I remember watching the scores if you didn't have a game on Ceefax. Page 302 for the football. Page 303 for the First Division scores live. NEVER forget those numbers which is mad (and somewhat sad) when you think about it. And the 10/15 second delay whatever it was between pages turning over. That used to kettle yer head in frustration!

*Edit* Now you got me remembering ****** Ceefax! The tables page ..... You missed the First Division, and you had to sit through like another billion until it went through every British league and scrolled back round. Same if you didn't read real fast on the news pages the one bit on your club. Used to drive you nuts!

Haven't watched the u21's as much as I would've liked to this season, but Olesunde always impresses me (as has Kenyon on the rare occasions I caught him).
Yeah been impressed with him in his first season. Especially as he's played CB, RB, RW and has done well in all tbh. Has decent pace good strength and athleticism. And is a good dribbler and a good passer. Can see him as a FB that can fill in at CB. Will see how he develops next year before gaging if he has a chance here. On other u23 news lot of talk Harrop has asked to leave in the Summer. Shame really he has been very consistent this year. Not sure he's good enough to be a starter but squad player sure. But at his age maybe better for him to go to a mid to lower prem or even Champuonship team and work his way up. Way more talented than Drinkwater was and he's had a good career.

One of the the good things I like about our academy. They get good coaching not just football but life as well. And if they don't make it here, they go onto have good playing careers elsewhere. Either in Prem or Championship.

Just watching the Madrid game atm. James certainly putting in a shop window performance. There basically playing the B team and its still over 200m worth of players. Now that's a squad!

Darmian: "I don't think it's the right time to speak about my future. Now is the time to think about playing. End of the season we'll see."

He has barely rotated at all tbh, apart from Tuanzebe, that is a very strong team.

Edit: Let me reword that, he has rotated, but it's a strong team given our injuries. Stronger than I expected for sure.

at least rooney still good from set pieces....oh yeah hes awful at that too

Think Rooney's been quite good, putting himself about, finding himself pockets of space, but set pieces been wank and has to finish that chance.

Good end-to-end game this :)

His passing has been poor. And his lack of closing down players running at our back for is frustrating resulting in them having 2 good efforts. And what was he doing when through with the keeper? Should of berried that or at least squared to Mata for a tap in. Suppose it's how our seasons gone in front of goal.

Agreed, interesting to note United have got to the Semis of EL with Romero in goal. So De Gea is not to vital to the team as he once was. It mustn't be forgotten however, they haven't lost him until he is actually sold and we all know what happened last time.

Pretty much, swap with Navas or whatever and they're still good. They had best defensive record in the league 2 years in a row now, and De Gea heroics had little to do with it. It's not Moyes days anymore when he singlehandedly kept them from finishing far lower lower than 7th.

not really get the def sorted and you dont need a world class keeper just a good 1 but having a world class 1 helps

Dudes like Schmeichel and saves you 18/20 points a season.

And how many did you go through after Schmiechel before you dropped on Van Der Sar? Even given Mourinho's negativity I think he'll be a far bigger loss than what many seem to think. Obviously, a 'keeper is only as good as what's in front of him but still the drop off from De Gea to anyone else man .... We don't see much of Neuer but if there's a better goalkeeper in World footie he must be one **** of a player.
