The Manchester United Thread

Are we on a reduced rate of sponsorship at the moment because of no CL or does it only go down if we fail to qualify this season?

The Adidas deal drops by 30% with no CL football again.

They're due to pay £70 million next year. So that would drop by £21 million. Just reading Utd's chief financial officer anticipating a £50 million or so loss in revenue next year with no CL football.

Talking of, this is an interesting read on the desperate financial times trying to stay relevant without the CL:

Can't see how they can really change the game much besides prettier graphics and maybe better AI. But AI isn't excatly easy to code.
You can do a lot. You can make UI look better. You can put in new animations so 3d engine isnt as dull. Dunno about FM17 since I don't own it, but after playing FM16 for couple of months I could tell you if you would score or not based how goalkeeper took goalkick. I aint paying 60$ for transfer update like Tyton said.

They have not changed engine since what, FM12?

Allowing it to descend into some Muppets twitter feed probably drove a lot of people away.
More like people getting fed up of silly arguments that turned into petty name calling of each other and said clubs. And endless ranting after matches ;)

So what's people's thought on DDG? The talks already started, he was all but gone last season but for a **** up. He's not travelled with the squad and Mourinho has said that it's likely Romero and Periera will share the last 2 league games. And Romero will defo start the Final. So looks like we won't see him again this season or maybe at all. What's people's thoughts on the price we would be looking at or the players we would be looking at return, in some sort of cash player deal or just straight cash deal? Personally think he's off. Will be gutted and a miss, but not as bigger miss as previous seasons as we are a far better organised unit. I know one thing Mourinho and Ed won't let him go for anything less than his valuation. I would say 50-65m£ cash. Gotta feeling it could also have something to do with the James or Bale talk.

cash plus varane and bale dont want james dont need any more number 10 just hope he does not go and sees what mou is trying to build

Same deal as last year, cash+Navas. He still has 2-3 good years left in him and Idon't think there's a better goalkeeper currently on the market.

I think under Mourinho we may benefit from a more commanding goalkeeper anyway, although De Gea is a massive loss no matter how you look at it.

I thought it was just the usual rumors at this time of season and thought he would stay, but given how he's not playing the last few league games I do find it a bit odd.

To sell him I'd be looking at £50m minimum. If we can get any players coming the other way which is unlikely I'd like Varane more than anyone in their team.

I'd be very disappointed if James was the the player in a compromise for DDG tbh, as we could get James pretty comfortably if the recent rumours are anything to go by, without using our leverage. We should exploit their obsession with De Gea by testing them with Varane, Bale, Morata, etc.

De Gea will definitely be gone in my opinion, it was a bit of luck that kept him last time. Now however, the dependence on him has decreased (the side could still do with a commanding CB to be fair), Romero has proven to be a more than adequate replacement. This time United are in a much stronger bargaining position to get a better fee, even with a player exchange he could still command £40m plus. There is no point in keeping a player who clearly wants to go but doesn't want to rock the boat (if he was that keen to stay I'm sure he would be complaining about a lack of playing time in the Europa Cup). With Mourinho clearly rating Periera and with Romeo being the preferred choice for the Europa Final there is clearly going to be life after De Gea. It would be a shame to see him go especially as he is now starting to reach his full potential but he needs to be playing in his own country for his international development. No player is indispensable, yes there are some who come close. For the last few seasons De Gea has been one such player for United but, now when the team is becoming more secure at the back even when he isn't in goal it is time to let him go chase a dream but to make sure Real don't get him on the cheap this time ;)

I wouldn't like him as a no.1 tbh, he still flaps at crosses.
I don't think he will be the permanent No 1, just as long as the club don't sign Hart now that would be a step down even Torino sources say he is overrated.

If we win the Europa League, he's gonna stay.
Highley unlikely as he's not been playing in it and not likely to be in the squad for the final or the remaining games of the season. Think it's already decided tbh and why Mourinho has no longer included him.

I agree with what most have said of trying to get Varane, Bale, Morata in some sort of deal.

Why in the ******* **** would anyone want Varane? He has worse injury record than Smalling and Jones combined.

What? so not an opinion based on what you've actually seen him do in the Prem for nearly 10 years+.. lol. superb.
