The Manchester United Thread

Like the Pogba nonsense, it'll all be cleared up in the next month or so. Not much point over-speculating

wouldnt surprise me if its dead now though.think the transfer ban may have messed things and he does have an affinity to atletico so might not wanna leave them in that siutuation idk

I don't think the transfer ban effects outgoing players if the release clause is met.

Actually it is not a relase clause (which is between two clubs), but a buy-out clause which exists in every players contract in Spain. In buy-out clause the player is required to buy out the remainder of his contract.

Griezmann doesn't have €100mil lying around somewhere so basically Utd have to transfer him the funds for it and when they do it is considered incoming income for Griezmann which is in turn taxable by Spain so the actual amount required to "free" Griezmann is considerably higher then the clause.

(Unless things have changed since Javi Martinez went to Bayern if anyone has information? Especially the part about tax)

think the tax law has changed but not 100% know

i think if jose wanted him it wouldnt matter if we nned to replace zlatan.maybe jose has changed his mind?or maybe its all political bullshit

From BBC-

1) Atletico's transfer ban doesn't effect their ability to sell the players. They can also buy players if they want too but they can't register them before 1st Jan 2018
2) Griezman has a buyout clause of 100m Euros. If United wants it and Griezmann wants to leave then he'll be an United player. Atletico can't stop him.
3) There'll be no tax on the buyout clause(the tax laws were changed). United will have to pay 100m Euros for his service and nothing more.

so what do u think TOD,is the deal still very much on or dying fast?

Look guys, I'm all for freedom of the speech, but this is getting out of hands. Journos clearly know nothing, or very little. Informations keep changing every hour. Now X is coming, now X is not coming. Its tiresome to read last 10 pages. All the same. Can we keep that in Transfer Rumor thread please?

I'd personally like to see a journo who has actually gone through the spanish law governing these kind of situations (Decreto Real 1006/1985).

Now that Athletico's transfer ban has been upholded there is no chance of Griezmann transfer in any other way, but him buying out his contract and it is a legal procedure which will take time. Utd probably have fed information on journos that priorities have changed to cool off the situation and let lawyers work in quiet. Transfer most likely will happen, but will take some time.

Edit: On the earlier part the tax law has indeed changed and these kind of transfers arent liable for Value Added Tax (18%) anymore, but when player buys out his contract is tricky business as Griezmann doesn't have 100mil lying around and Utd can't give it straight to him unless they want it to be taxable so the deal has to be structured so Griezmann will likely loan out the money from Utd or some other entity to pay out the buy out clause.

This is just my opinion, but I think Griezmann will stay at Atleti, here's why

-Diego Simeone:Simeone is staying at atleti for another year, so there is a chance that Simeone might convince him to stay and try to conquer Europe with him.
-Wanda Metropolitano:Atleti have a new stadium and maybe, Griezmann might want to play there and perform there.
-The fact that Atleti are almost unbeatable in UCL:Hear me out here.Yes, they lost to Bayern this year, but in the last few years(since La Decima), Atleti have reached two CL finals and the only team that has been able to knock them out has been real madrid, so if Real were to stumble early(they are due, what with 2 finals in a row and winning one(possibly both).
-Transfer Bans don't stop teams from selling players, they simply stop teams from registering new ones, so I think Simeone will try his best to keep Griez at Atleti for another year, because they cannot replace him, but finally it comes down to Griez

There is also the point that he could be afraid that he might regret leaving, just ask Pogba if he'd rather win a treble consisting of a league cup, 2nd tier european cup and a glorified friendly or have a chance at winning one consisting of a league, cup and Champions League.

Note:Don't think of this as me implying in a ny way that I don't want Griez here, I do, I just think that he'll stay there for this year and come next season

Simeone staying won't have any impact, because it's been reported long after he decided to stay. That Griezmann will still move.

They have no chance of conquering Spain let alone Europe, especially as they can't sign any players now. And there main competition Bayern, Juve, Madrid, Barca are gonna spend big.

Wouldnt get to worried by recent reports just yet. Had BBC and the rest saying pretty similar with the Pogba deal. Let's wait and see lads :)

This is a very good take on where things stand. I would tend to agree with what is written in this link. Have a look and see if you agree:

Not that it's a new view of mine on here, but I've personally thought that all along that they'll bring all the band back for one last go at everything in the new stadium. (Which I hate FWIW as the old ground was something else. But that's for another discussion.).

Those fans (best in Spain outside of Valencia in my experience), and, as much as I dislike his playing style, Simeone, deserves that with the fan/ team connection and one for all mentality he's fostered that is that sides strength.

Time will out but loyalty to the two is a very powerful factor that side of Madrid.

With Griezmann now potentially not coming (I still hope&believe :(..)
I feel we should go hard in on Fabinho and Lukaku/Morata/Belotti, maybe even Perisic?
And then focus on maybe getting a new LB/CB?
Potential Team?

Rojo will be out till December I think. Looks good but it's not really resolving our GS issue from this season gone. All we have done is swapped 28 goal Zlatan and replaced him with Lukaku.
