The Manchester United Thread

Our #1 that I'm so glad we fended off interest on - 26 years old.

The heart of our defence - 24 & 23 years old.

The main man in the middle of the park - 24 years old.

Our soon to be #9 - 24 years old.

We're building this the right way, chequebook or no chequebook - Mourinho's building a team to get to the top and try and stay there for years to come. When you look at it age wise, it would possibly be quite shrewd to get Matic in there for a bit of experience (has legs on Carrick), but this is quite exciting tbh.

New season can't come soon enough or should I say ore season. That's after we have signed Matic, Perisic, Semedo ;) seriously have no idea who will come in next!

Intrigued to know where this 15m extra in Lukaku's fee has come from. Not even Joyce has that in his article

Is it muggy everywhere keeping you from sleeping or just here? Either that or I'm going through the change ......

But I digress. The extra £15 million? Simple maths really being as Everton have been very vocally insistent they aren't selling for a penny less than £100 million and strong reports Utd are waiving their £10 million valuation on Rooney. So in a roundabout way Everton keep face and total it up to £100 M with the add-ons and Rooney without directly getting that. That's been talked about here yesterday as the likely breakdown.

But since I posted that, Joyce has updated to similar in today's Times:

' ..... Ed Woodward, United’s chief executive, has negotiated a deal in which the club will pay £75 million for Lukaku, plus £15 million in easily achievable add-ons. It is likely that the player’s medical will take place in Los Angeles.

United are suggesting that Rooney will be given a free transfer but he is, in effect, being valued at about £10 million to £15 million, which would give Everton the £100million fee they were holding out for when it became clear Lukaku would not sign a new contract. ..... '

So a max of 90m. That's still not 100m any way you cut that. Either way, if he hits 90m then he's being a successful. Still baffled people don't think he brings players into the game when he makes more passes per game and creates more chances per game than Morata, ans that's Morata at his best form for Juve. Would take either in a heartbeat.

You can't hold Joyce up as the definitive source on Merseyside football then dismiss his reporting. Come on now. That's just splitting hairs. It might not be straight up cash per se, but Everton, from their point of view with Rooney, are getting the £100 million they've desired and have been insisting on from the Lukaku deal all along.

If it goes through, as appears likely, it'll be interesting to see if one club has it one way and the other another.

Heck of a fee like regardless whoever ends up with him.

Just sign them...sign them all!

I haven't dismissed Joyce at all. There is no 100m fee there. It's literally not splitting hairs. It's mathematics. The don't receive 100m

Thinkinh Rooney is worth 10m and getting him for free, and actually receiving 100m are two complete different things.

There is no 100m fee, but they in a way receive 100m. Even if they do not receive it in cash they receive it as an asset. It's all about accounting.

You haven't? You're arguing completely the opposite to what he wrote.

He reiterates a deal's worth £100 million to Everton.

You say it's a maximum £90 million, that's not £100 M. however its cut.

What the **** else are you doing?

Rooney an asset??? an asset???? At this stage of his career I'm happy that anyone takes him off our hands!!! That's another great bonus in this deal, the fact that we've even got anything for him is great and not to mention the wages... more high wages off our books.

Very beneficial deal for United. A lot of wages off the books now with Zlatan and Rooney. I'm happy with this deal. Still have my doubts a bit over Lukaku, but nothing Mourinho shouldn't be able to fix.

He's 2nd highest goalscorer in last 5 pl seasons, only second to Aguero. Can't argue with that.. Morata was always a gamble as well. Not as proven as Lukaku in the PL, could easily of struggled. Not to mention never been an undisputed no.1 striker, he doesn't know the workload like Lukaku does of playing a full season. He is in and out of matches off the bench etc.

Lukaku just reminds me of a young Drogba.. honestly.. closest thing we'll see to him at the moment. Still room to improve, only 24.

Just look at the market and be realistic, Lukaku was one of, if not the best option for us.

Lets be honest, most rival fans will play this down and clutch at everything they can to mock this deal. Lukaku has his flaws, but they can be ironed out.

However just to back up what you were saying about him bringing others into the game and him creating chances for others: -

Lukaku has registered more assists (27) than any other striker in the Premier League in the last five seasons

I was about to add to my post that if Rooney is an asset is another matter, but decided to leave it out. Still Everton consider him an asset if they do end up signing him.

I also think this deal is great for United. At first I thought Rooney to Everton must be a loan deal where Everton pay only part of his wages, but now if it goes through United will all of his wages to be spend elsewhere.
