The Manchester United Thread

Herrera definitely changed the game. I was really happy with McTominay, great first touch and movement. Improve his passing range and we might have a class player!

2-0 in third gear having missed a penalty and duffed a few half chance. Benfica have tested de Gea a couple of times but the only time they really looked like equalising was when Bailly actually passed the ball to their striker. Not amazing, but so straightforward.

Either side of getting beat by us, Spurs have absolutely bodied Liverpool and Madrid. Incredible how we’re subject to criticism in the media

After that result last night, I said the kids would put two and two together and get 5.
"Spurs beat Real and Liverpool and we beat spurs... So United are better than Real!!".XD

Real have been ***** this year tbh, by their standards. Spurs have been fantastic and take nothing away from them. We got 3 points against the second best team in England and a **** good side in Europe. Haters will hate.

Having said that, we really need to at least get a point at Chelsea for that to count for much. It's like drawing against Liverpool and then losing vs Huddersfield. All that hard work was all undone. In my opinion it's the same this time, if we lose against Chelsea but beat Spurs, it just feels the progress we made has been lost.

We have beaten Chelsea at Stamford Bridge once since 2002. And that was with them down to nine. Worse Chelsea teams have roundly beat us so we shouldn't get too carried away about the result

Cool. Seeing as nobody has said that here, any examples?

Indeed. It does put Jose's approach into better context, Spurs statistically the best counter-attack side in Europe. United gave them no space to play into, Madrid opened the door and got bodied. Liverpool previously had done the same. Think the two Manchester clubs are in good shape for the knockouts for different reasons, United will be stronger with the return of Zlatan, Pogba and Rojo. Spurs look very good too

Word around here is that McTominay was offered a call up to the Scottish national team (he qualifies through his dad) but has turned it down, had done some training camps with youth Scotland teams but evidently thinks he might have a shot with England at some point

Madrid gave them so much room to play into, I mean, has Zidane watched them lately? Tried to match them man-for-man in the second half I think but too late by then.

Fair play to Spurs though, absolutely ruthless in the final third. They sort of remind me of a Sir Alex team. Dominate smaller sides, counter effectively in big games.

We haven't conceded an open play goal in the PL whilst at Old Trafford since 2016, Middlesbrough apparently.

De Gea hasn't conceded any goal at Old Trafford in 6 months.

Think we have the best defensive record out of the top 5 leagues in Europe atm. In other news:

Greizmann is getting absolutely bashed to pieces in the Spanish media and by the Atletico supporters , saying that his thoughts are in Manchester already..!

Player's head turned for Mourinho, non existent as heart set on signing for Man United - Sport Witness

Unbelievable. The guy stayed around to help them in a difficult situation and the media still bash him.

Been going on for at least a week now. Even Simeone said he couldn’t answer questions about why Griezmann form is not at the level.

Mourinho on returning players, "I am not very optimistic but there is two more days to confirm my expectation."
1:04 PM - Nov 2, 2017

Mourinho on Chelsea, "It's just one more game and in four or five years nobody will remember I was Chelsea manager."

Mourinho on players returning, "We are there, I think the next two days will be important."

Mourinho: 'Tottenham beat Liverpool 4-1 and Real Madrid 3-1. Tottenham. They didn't score against Manchester United.' #mufc

1/3: Jose on criticism of @ManUtd style: "I don't want to comment. Sometimes I feel like I should, then I cool down.

2/3: "Performances for some clubs are magic, brilliant tactics + amazing attutude, others same performance become conservative + negative

Mourinho on his court case
He was asked if it has been a distraction leading up to the game:

No, it’s just a change of normal training time because I want to be there and I can’t be there in the morning so I have to change the timings.

Mourinho's great response to one reporter
He was asked how much United have grown since they last played Chelsea:

“Maybe Rashford - two centimetres. Scott McTominay - three,”

Evra got sent off for Marseille before their game even began for kicking a fan in the head, think he will be facing quite the ban
