The Manchester United Thread

Scouse it isn't over until is mathematically impossible a certain Mr Keegan and a bunch of Newcastle fans can attest to that one. Plus City have been riding their luck over the last few games, they will come unstuck at some point.

Your better example, for this thread, would be '85's Utd vintage that won the first 10 games and finished well off the pace.

But this City side isn't either of those. Thos is a top, TOP outfit. This City side can be in cruise control the rest of the year and still comfortably win the league.

Jose is a dinosaur. More news at 11.
Luckily for us he will be gone at end of next season at the latest.Grateful for some of the few things he has improved, stabilising us slightly but we need to build an identity that isn't all about being tall, physical and hoofing it.

We only ever showed any mild ambition TOD when we went 2 up top today. Before that Mourinho's plan was always going to result in City having tons of possession and creating chances. Yes, missing Pogba was key but the gameplan was dross and the tactics was dross. This is Manchester United and were relying on fooking hoofball to beat the press every time.
We simply don’t have the quality to out play City! 1 man CM today. Mourinho changes style and we play far less football when Pogba is missing. Not saying that’s right but our CMs are fairly poor apart from the starting 2. City just have far better squad. We know how Mourinho plays in big games.

Few drinks today zzeezzy? ;)
Started before the final whistle. Honestly though, Mourinho spends £500m since he's here give or take and he has us setup less of a threat than West Ham/Huddersfield were in last few games against City. That takes some doing.AND THATS AT OLD TRAFFORD... WTF WE GONNA BE LIKE AT THE ETIHAD.

Genuine question.... if the squads were reversed... Mourinho was their manager and Pep ours.... would we be seeing the same game today? Not a chance in ****. Mourinho has a team setup to play like this and it's disgusting to see a United side like this at home! We were defeated before the first whistle. Yes, I get mildly happy when we get a result, like Arsenal last week. But long-term under Mourinho we are going nowhere. We just rely on the short-term success which he won't be bringing this season unless a miracle CL win..... which won't happen.

Its not about scoring goals for Lukaku. Its how he plays. Thats why I made the Hernandez comparation. He offers way too little for top teams.

Lukaku is always going to struggle when we are setup to play like this though in fairness.Yeh he was awful today, but he is a small part of a bigger problem.

Have to say, for all the good pieces of play City produce, those sly El Classico-esque trips and "tactical fouls" that somehow go unpunished 9 times out of 10, spoils the game.

Yeh they have a real ugly side to their game, it's clever in a way. All the top teams do really, like even thinking back to the invincibles of Arsenal. Only difference is with them you knew they were nasty bastards, with City it isn't so obvious.

Cant believe your getting annoyed at Mourinho setting up like this as if it’s something new he started doing at Utd. He’s done it at every club he’s been at in tough games. Hasn’t stopped him bagging a **** load of trophies though.

But in an era where attempting a bicycle could get you sent off (if the ref deems it dangerous play), celebrating with the fans or taking off your shirt gets you booked, how does trips that stop possible counters go unpunished?

If we are talking just about today, yes. But he's is a BIG problem. He plays like this against weaker teams as well. He offers little in build up, holding up and general effort.

Someone like Pochettino or Pep would improve a player like Lukaku drastically I think in that regard. Even if they didn't he wouldn't be in that starting lineup long. Agree with you though Vanjagl, he was ****** dross today. Only thing that salvages him is his goal return. No matter how its done, he gets them.

Let's not put poch in the same conversation as Jose yet. He's not actually achieved anything yet. We were desperate today. But we are still better than the rest of the league, and most seasons we'd be looking like title favourites

Thing is, everyone should strive to be the best. And being a second best is not good enough, sorry.

Exactly. I think Poch is a good manager. But not achieved anything yet despite having a squad capable of winning things. Some even saying as good as ours or better. Despite being 11 behind City we’ve still had a good season so far. Just have to give it to City who have been better. Can’t believe some want Mourinho gone :O

No one has said Pochettino has achieved as much as Jose has. But you know for a fact that he wouldn't approach a big game like Jose does. It's just really horrible to see a team full of so many quality players that are being asked to play such a negative way. It;s not just against City, it's against every single big team now. Yeh we got the result last week against Arsenal, but they still outplayed us.
