The Manchester United Thread

Where does Griezmann even fit in though Mike? He is pretty versatile, and would do a job across the front line, but to me he seems to specialize as a striker in a 4-4-2, or 10 in a 4-2-3-1, two systems I can't see us playing much or at all next season. He'd probably be decent as an inside right winger, but not sure if it's his best role.

For me, we should've just went for Bale or Mahrez instead of Sanchez.

Play him on the left, he will narrow up as a second striker/wide forward. Combine him with an aggressive left back. Or play him as the 10 with Rashford and Sanchez either flank

Got no issue with Sanchez, but he was supposed to be playing on the right.

Can't help but feel Sanchez was a bit of a panic buy. A chance to inject quality into your squad in the build up to CL knockouts, get one over on Pep, and think about where he fits/how he effects other players later. His (perceived) inability to operate on the right makes him look a bit of a silly purchase at this stage, as we needed a right winger, not left. We were sorted there with Tony.

I heard he was always a target, but at the end of the season. It was just that City had been hovering, others were interested and the decision was made to grab him before anyone else because Wenger would accept Miki as payment, rather than get in a bunfight at the end of the season.. He just arrived half a year earlier than as originally planned, but with no real outlay and a player with a questionable future under Mourinho out the door too.

I'm so fu***** ****** right now. Sanchez was always a short term move, the kind of high intensity game he plays, he has 2 or 3 years tops (at a WC level). But god, I'll be so ****** if we lose Martial because of that.

And for everyone saying he was inconsistent, he is young, of course he will be ****** inconsistent. So was Ronaldo, initially. It's the manager's job to iron out those chinks, give him that confidence. Mourinho has done jack-**** regarding that. And on the left, he is the only one remotely resembling a #7 that we have since Ronaldo. And his inconsistency started since being shunted out to the right (and occasionally, at that). Martial was supposed to be a shoo-in for the French squad (but don't think Deschamps picked him even at top form, dunno what's up with that.)

Depay was understandable, his decision making was as questionable as Rashford, and his lifestyle and attitude apparently were a problem too. But Martial has none of that. I actually wouldn't mind too much losing Rashford, but keep Martial with us.

You know, for all the youth-related criticisms that Mourinho faces, I'm starting to wonder the truth in them too. Sure, he has given debuts to a lot of players, but has he continued to develop them? I dunno. Jeez.

DDG, Bailly, Pogba, Martial and Lukaku were supposed to keep the club going - all are young, and have unquestionable talent/potential. So irritated with this today.

Nah, that's just an excuse United fans have made to justify what was from the start an extremely questionable and short-sighted transfer. It was obvious from the start Mourinho will not be playing his newest superstar signing out of position to develop young talent instead.

Kinda stating the obvious I know, but bit of a weak mentality if you ask me.

That's just rubbish and you know. He came as a kid for a shockingly high fee and immediately became your best player.

It is different from De Bryne and Salah situation, purely they where not getting minutes and where not proven them-self already. They went to get play time and opportunities. Lukaku sell was bit different, he did prove himself but did not get the trust and didint fit the team plans.

I was curious how Martial played during the 3 seasons and I was surprised comparing the games and minutes played. He did not have huge competition at first season, but he has proven his worth and value to the team. Getting same amount of games in PL but 1000 minutes less game time is very very worrying. I dont see weak mentality from him, he wants to get game time. He sees that United want those flashy players and go out of their way to get them.
Bayern should look at his direction. Ribery can mentor and let him take over his spot.

First sign of real competition and he's off though?

I'm a bit torn on this one, Mourinho deserves a fair bit of blame, but I have seen Martial on the pitch since Sanchez arrival and he has looked a lot of the time like he just can't be arsed.

Sure I get that he might be angry, but he could of at least played to a level somewhat reminiscent of start of season, when he did get his chances. Just to prove to Mourinho how much of a donkey he was for dropping him.

Except it's not. It's literally what I said from before he signed. Go back and have a read of I what I said. Sanchez to play on the right replace Miki. That was the whole point

As for out of position, he's spent most of his career on the right....

People need to stop with this idea he's out of position on the right. He can and has played all 4 positions. It was only at Arsenal he transitioned to the left wing.

His better performances for us have come from.the right, and we don't narrow up as a side

He's going to have to compete elsewhere. It's like I said before, he and Jose have fallen out though.

Really annoying though, going to be a massive loss whatever way we look at it sadly. The kid is still only ****** 22, ridiculous how good he could turn out to be. Sanchez signing really unnecessarily messed his form over, what a stupid situation we could of avoided if Mourinho handled it better.

Even more frustratingly, you just know Mourinho will be here probably a season or two max.

Its a huge shame, that said, it's not done yet. Some of the agents quotes also didn't make sense. So we'll see

From the BBC- Been told @ManUtd have NO intention of selling Anthony Martial. Still has one year + option for additional season left on his contract.

Also seen RMC tweet early this morning his agent saying how much he loves the club and fans. Maybe some games going on here.

This is what I was saying to Zzeezzy about some of the agents quotes making no sense, they were linked to money.

Seems you were right! Watch this space I guess. Hope it’s the case just both sides playing the game coming to a final agreement with terms to money. We have been briefing a few months now, we will give him more playing time next season.

Just noticed will have City, Saints, Pool all away after our last 3 CL qualifiers. Pretty tough that.

In other news :( what a strange move for him. Never really kicked on last season. Could of been down to the overall team. Think a loan would of been better for him. Still has tha ability to make a very good player.

Best of luck to Indy Boonen who is set to sign for KV Oostende
