The Manchester United Thread

Ashley Young is a better defender than Rose, jeez Rhqq you way overrate him. Just look at most recent WC, he was all over the place defensively.

Admittedly he is decent going forward, but he's not great defensively and for me is suspect a lot of the time. He fits Spurs team well because they are on front foot a lot of the time, as soon as he has pressure on him other way it's curtains.

This is the definition of recency bias. Danny Rose is excellent defensively lol. One of the worst opinions/posts I've read in a while mate.

Why can't we go off what most recently has happened? I don't get what's wrong with that.

Rose practically played in 2 games at WC, he was responsible for 2 goals being conceded.

His Spurs form was nothing special this season either.

I'm not here to bash Rose, but you way overrate him at this stage. It says a lot when Young is a preferred option and actually defends better.

Ashley Young played because he had a good, solid season at LB for Jose, whereas Rose was coming off the back of a terrible season. Injury, weight & mental health issues (was badly depressed). No chance he was going to be risked at the WC, he only played 800 mins for Spurs last season, the equivalent of like 8 & a bit full matches.

I'd have Bertrand ahead of Young, let alone Rose. But that's just me.

In sport you have to use recency bias a bit rose has 28 league games over the last two seasons and has never hit 30 league games in a season so it’s not like him hardly playing for a season is something new which you’d also have to take into account when buying. There’s almost no way he would play enough and well enough to justify what his fee would be

Tbh Rhqq, with his injuries and mental issues that all just says to me more reasons why he would find it real hard to adapt to a big money step up move in this stage of his career.

But your allowed an opinion, you obviously rate him a lot more than I personally do.

I'm not sure why we've spun off topic here, all I said was Rose, Kane & Walker are the only English players worth buying as they instantly improve most XI's in world football. It's a non-topic as we have Lukaku, Walker is at City and we are going to sign Alex Sandro if anyone at LB.

All I am trying to say is Alderweireld>Maguire, and we're in a financial position to sign proven, world class players for the now.

I'd be happy with either ultimately, just prefer Maguire due to having a player for the long-term and he is such a powerhouse aerially. Something we have lacked for a long time at the back especially. Think we can all agree that both are an instant upgrade on majority of what we have currently in terms of CB.

Apparently from what I was reading on SSN they reckon that Yerry Mina is our alternative should our pursuit of Aldeweireld/Maguire fail.

Wouldn't be totally against that, he looked very good for Colombia. Him and Bailly would be interesting.

The ability is there, do you trust Jose to coach him to his full ability and get him nursed over his injuries. As long as you dont get stiffed on the price, Rose can be as decent as any left back in the Prem.

Simple answer is after offloading Blind then soon to be Rojo and Darmian. Buy Maguire now. Sell Jones and Smalling next summer then get Toby for 25m :P

If Jose signs a CM who isn't 6ft+, let alone being 5'6, you know he's gotta be good.

Hoping, didn't even feature for Brazil at WC so was a bit disappointed not to see him. They have a good midfield don't get me wrong but still though he could of got on over Paulinho.

Paulinho was one of the best CM's in Europe last season, one of the fittest players I've ever seen. Runs for days. Probably the best option to allow Coutinho the license in which he requires.

Yeh but I thought he got injured during WC or was that another one of their midfielders.

Oh, weird, thought one of their midfielders got injured during one of their games. Maybe I'm going senile and just dreamt of seeing Fred on the pitch.

Came on in the pre WC friendly in June against Croatia?

I just find it a bit odd that Fabinho doesn't get a look in Internationally tbh. I mean, at least the squad?

Starting to second guess the pretty high regards I held him to, felt like an idiot when I rated Smalling in LVG era, hope it's not something similar - I was screaming out for him or Matic last season. Mourinho & Guardiola not signing him when he was practically begging to be snapped up by one of them is my biggest suspicion.

My mate said he's also underwhelmed a little in friendlies so far, not sure as I haven't seen him (and they are friendlies after all). But maybe his reputation exceeds his actual ability? Have a better idea tonight how he fits. Can't wait for the match, half the first XI missing or not, it's Manchester United vs. Liverpool.

All 3 players in that slot just had better seasons, he would have got the call if the world cup was one season earlier.
