The Manchester United Thread

Just how good was Fergie? Forget winning titles with Darren Fletchers, Parks, Tom Cleverley's, John O'Shea's & co. (with all due respect) playing big parts, making the Glazers look competent was as much if not more of an achievement.

No one can downplay Fergie obviously, but I do think modern PL in recent years is more competitive. Can't really say the money hasn't been given to Mourinho (up until this summer so far).

As much as I didn't want to believe it, I just feel more and more now that his style of management is looking more outdated by the day. He really needs to start approaching things a different way or there is only one outcome.

It's hard right now to see how this isn't Mourinho's last season.

It's more competitive, but Fergie was as adaptable to change as they came. Conquered/held his own against every challenge that arose; The Invincibles, Mourinho's Chelsea, Newly mega rich Manchester City - Have 0 doubt we'd still be challenging for top honours against Pep's City if he didn't step down (and was fit to do the job, of course). City winning the title like they did last season would've seen him sign Harry Kane or something and threw him up top with Lukaku lol.

Hey, let's not rewrite history here. Fergie was also a grumpy, miserable ***** most of the time.

It's just that a 70-year old working class Scottsman could get away with saying things that a suposedly sophisticated, educated, well traveled Portugesse does not. Those Martial comments are an embarrassment to United as an organization, it's like something from 1985. Who the **** attacks a dad for taking few days off when his kid is about to be born.

Ferguson was a grumpy bustard, but he never downplayed the club, or his players, even when you knew he was talking *****. If you got a public dressing down it was because you knew you had done something really stupid. And no matter the state if the side, he never went into it without believing they were going to win everything. This is what mourinho has never grasped. I doubt he will finish the season.

Fergie was a grumpy fart a lot of the time too, agreed, but one thing he always done was protect his players. Not hang them out to dry. It's nothing got to do with where you're from; if you're an "it's never my fault" *****, then you're an "it's never my fault" *****. Regardless if you're from the Vatican city or from Scarborough.

The sooner he's out of the club, the better. Lets just hope young guns dont leave because of him.
Who would be his replacement now that Sarri is at Chelsea?

That's a real tricky question now, Zidane would be my choice personally, he has his flaws but a great man manager and has the United DNA. He believes in younger players and won't roast them out to dry at any opportunity like Mourinho.

My choice would be Simeone. The happy Mourinho. But that's not going to happen with the Atletico side built

I still have a feeling we'll do well this season, but he's not doing himself any favours. For next summer, the usual suspects; Poch or Jardim.

That was the one thing his first English go-around. He had his players back publicaly over most anything. No doubt he’d tear them a new one behind closed doors like. The way it should be. But he defended them to the hilt publicaly. You’ll give everything you have for a fella’ like that. Players wanted to play for him and you never heard anyone say a bad word about him who’d played under him. Even those that had been binned off.

We always had the thing with him. He’s hated us since we turned him down for Rafa after Porto. But I personally liked him back then. He was fresh and funny and knew how to conduct himself as regards the club and players to get that respect.

Then he went abroad and came back the polar opposite. Just an all out miserable narky **** that doesn’t seem to even enjoy life now. Let alone football. (The absolutely ridiculous situation if him still living the hotel with his family the other end the Country three years in can’t be helping his disposition at all there. How the club has allowed that is beyond me.).

The amount of ex-players now speaking out and the amount of his current guys he regularly throws under the bus is staggering. All because his ego won’t allow him to accept his part in the blame when things go wrong.

Its likevtwo completely different fellas from his first English period to his second. And it’s all self inflicted madness that’s bringing everyone down with him and massively damaging the perception of Utd as a club. Not least with the wider football watching public.

Utterly mad the complete character change he’s gone through.

Wish I had that optimism, right now it looks like an injury struck mess of a squad that is full of players that Jose doesn't want or trust. That was his comments anyway so we can only assume he's telling the truth.

God knows what our team vs Leicester is going to look like considering the injuries and lack of signings.

As always, few solid wins and everyone will forget about all of this drama. And you have pretty good fixtures first few months.

But yeah, World Cup disrupting the preseason, no signings, transfer window closes in 2 weeks, manager in meltdown mode. It's not looking good.

Doean’t when you’re paying hard earned money to be bored shitless just to dog out a result mate. That only lasts so long.

Went through all that with Rafa to the point I personally loaned out my seasonie and started picking and choosing games as there was just no fun it even with the results.

For the matxh going Utd fan to look at the fun L’pool and City fans are having the match every week compared to the teadium he’s putting them through I can’t imagine.

And the further away from the major trophies you get the quicker that frustration turns.

I think he’ll still run at 2 points or so a game and have you around 80 or so. It’s what he does. It won’t be pretty but he’s at least consistent at that.

But to be challenging, it’s gonna’ take a massive drop off from City, and now L’pool, to drop back down to that level as he’s never gonna’ change his philosophy to keep pace with Pep and Klopp.

I don't think you can win a PL without the majority of your team (if not all) on the same wave length as your manager.

We already know for a fact that there are players who are unhappy, that is already creating tensions that are visible, it will only get worse. Especially as Mourinho seems **** bent on doing so, those comments yesterday on Martial I'm sure will have made things much better! So for these very obvious reasons, we can't be surprised if the season turns out bad.

I'm still blaming Woodward and the board generally for this window thus far, you see City romp to the league and our response is to buy a kid and Fred. Not being funny but the worlds best clubs don't react like that when you see a an arch rival romping to a league. You go out there and send a message, we've sent practically nothing.

We don't need to send messages. We just need to get our house in order, and fill the gaps we have

Gotta drop those few extra points to keep up with Klopp. :p

United will be fine, can still see deals going through before the 8th/9th
