The Manchester United Thread

Sir Jim Ratcliffe on UEFA stopping Nice selling Todibo to Manchester United due to the teams playing in the same competition:

“They’ve said we can sell him to another Premiership club, but we can't sell to Manchester United.

But that's not fair on the player and I don’t see what that achieves.” #MUFC [

Sir Jim Ratcliffe: “We’ve got more accountants than we’ve got sporting people at Manchester United. This will change!” #MUFC [@business]

Sir Jim Ratcliffe:“There’s room for improvement everywhere we look at Manchester United, and we will improve everything. We want to be where Real Madrid is today, but it’ll take time.” #MUFC [@business]

Sir Jim Ratcliffe:“Manchester United’s net spend since the departure of Sir Alex Ferguson and David Gill is £1.1billion. Real Madrid’s is £200m. Today they have 6 or 7 players valued at over £100m. United have none. And they have made the new Bernabeu.” #MUFC [@business]

Sir Jim Ratcliffe on the decision to keep Erik ten Hag:“We kept Erik ten hag because he’s a good coach. He wins things. He did well at Ajax. The man in the street likes to think that the coach is everything, and maybe it was in the days of Ferguson.” #MUFC [via @alex_crook]

Sir Jim Ratcliffe: “We’ve had a whole series of good coaches since, and none of them have succeeded. The root of the problem is not the coach, it’s the environment around him. That’s what we’re looking at - we have to address that environment.” #MUFC [via @alex_crook]

Looks like can we will be starting the season with no LB again unless one is signed. Or Harry Amass is promoted FT from the u18s.

why whats wrong with shaw this time
Southgate took him to the Euro squad knowing he was injured still in the hope he would get fit for the second game of the group stages. Now that he’s been rushed back in training for England he’s suffered another set back and won’t be fit till further notice.

Changes will take place in #MUFC staff this summer.

Stopping P around with Ashworth and getting an actual DoF in to sort this window out would be more pressing wouldn't it?

With Newcastle adamant they'll leave him on gardening leave for another 18 months, because, like, they are State owned and can, (Side note- Who in there right mind agrees to that in their contract of work?), surely INEOS aren't going to wait another 2 windows after this one before he can start?

There's having your man. And there's being left behind and wasting time and money just because you are stubborn.

Well from what I heard, Barcode FC won’t budge for even £10 million. I will say £20 million for a DOF is absurd. The reputation of us overpaying isn’t going to go away if we payout what they’re look for. Not to mention I wouldn’t want to give them an easy way out of FFP.

Exactly.

So surely its time to look for someone else?

| Ruud Van Nistelrooy held discussions with several clubs about a position as head coach, including Burnley, Club Brugge and several clubs in Germany and Spain. But at #mufc, he also sees a wonderful challenge in a different role. [@ADnl]

I have to admit, I’m a bit surprised with this one. Idk why RVN would rather be an assistant coach than a gaffe with a really good season at PSV under his belt. Wonderful opportunity for Hojlund to really polish his movement in the box.

Yeah quite the coupe getting Ruud in as a coach. Reading Duckers piece about it now sounds like it was ETH suggestion as part of his new contract negotiations. Also possibly one of MClarren or Van De Gaag might be leaving. But that’s just talk not mentioned by Ducker.
