Johnson And Bristol City Part Company

Sky Sports understand that earlier today Bristol City and manager Gary Johnson have agreed a settlement for Johnson to leave Ashton Gate. It is believed that current chairman Steve Lansdown have never really seen eye to eye after Bristols Play-Off Final defeat a few season ago.

Johnson will be missed at Ashton Gate

Many football fans across the country will be very surprised by this move as Johnson had done a terrific job at Bristol since joining from Yeovil. However our Sky Sports sources understand that Steve Coppell a good friend of current chairman Lansdown has been brought in under the nose of Johnston. We can now bring you a statement from the former Bristol City manager himself Gary Johnson.

Johnson's statement:

This is a very disappointing day for me and my family as we have really enjoyed our time in Bristol. I would like to take this opportunity to thank all the Bristol City fans for their support during my rein and I wish however comes in behind me all the best. As for the Coppell debate I can tell you that it was a joint decision by myself and the club as we both felt the time was right for me to leave as I had taken the club as far as I could. Therefore the theory about Coppell is nonsense. Me and Steve (chairman) our still close friends and that is the way it will remain.

Steve Coppell is the man many believe will replace Johnson

As of now we have not heard anything from the Bristol City as they have refused to comment on the speculation and our in the process of finding a new manager.

As my other BCFC story was saved over I have decided to start it again with a new improved layout etc. Hope you all follow this one as well and any help or advice would be appreciated with transfers/layout thanks!

Coppell Rules Himself Out

Today Steve Coppell has officially declared himself out of the running for the Bristol City job. It was widely believed that Coppell would join up with his close friend and chairman of Bristol City Steve Lansdown and replace Gary Johnson as the manager. Coppell was today speaking with our reporter and said this.

Coppell's statement

I am flattered to be linked with a job at a very highly rated English club but I am not ready to go back into the day to day management just yet. Bristol City is a great club and am sure however is given the job will do a great job for a great club. I would just like to say that I have never been in contact with the Steve Lansdown about the job and would never go under the nose of a fellow manager. At the moment I am enjoying my holidays to much and have had offers to become TV pundit which seem more appealing!

Out Of The Running

This now leaves the race to become Bristol City's Manager wide open. A host of high profile names being linked with the post since Coppell was ruled out. Names that our being talked about are Alan Curbishley, Lee Clark, Gary Speed, Alan Pardew, David O Leary and Alan Shearer. The current bookies favorite is O Leary but Bristol City have still refused to comment.

Bookies Odds:

Bristol City Hire Unknown Rookie

Today the fans of Bristol City have been left in shock as the Steve Lansdown announced that Johnson's successor would be an unknown Irish rookie. Bristol City seem to have taken a big gamble with the appointment of a manager with no previous experience. The fans have meet the announce with some unease and the feeling among most of the fans is that they would have preferred someone with a lot more experience.

The Robins fans are less than impressed

We can now bring reaction from both the chairman of Bristol City and the new man at the helm himself.

Chairman's Statement:

We are delighted we have finally got our man and can now start concentrating on the upcoming season ahead. We all believe we have got a very young and talented manager on our books now and we hope we can have a successful rein under him. I wish to take this opportunity to ask all the Robins fans to get behind the manager and the team and help be the 12th man. Finally I wish to thank everyone at the club for being patient during the search. Thanks.

Managers Statement:

I cant tell you how much it means to me to be given this opportunity to manage a great club like Bristol City. I hope the fans can get behind me and the team this season and hopefully we can produce the performances on the pitch. I can understand the fans frustrations at my appointment but i hope to prove them wrong and become a Bristol City legend :D

It will certainly be interesting to see how the new manager gets on at his first attempt and if he can handle all the pressures that come with managing a big club

With a media prediction of 11th I have told the board I believe I can achieve a mid table position and they responded by giving me a budget of £600,000. I am hoping that the squad given the write guidance I can achieve better that mid table but as I lack experience I wont get to ambitious. The Championship is a very tough league and I predict that the 3 teams that came down will all me in the mix along with Reading and Sheff Utd. I also believe ourselves and Swansea could be a dark horses for the title.

Tactics and Training

Myself and the coaching staff will be using the Tugs training programme in order to develop our players and prepare them for the season. We will also me using a simple 4-2-3-1 tactic that I created myself during the season. The formation is shown below.

Transfer Targets

I have identified three key areas where wee will need to strengthen before the season kicks off. Firstly a Central Midfielder , a Winger and a Striker. The club are currently looking at certain players that fit the bill but we wont be releasing any details at the moment.

Does Muamba Fit The Bill?

(Any suggestions on transfers for any of these areas would be great thanks :D)

New Boss Makes Changes

The new Bristol City Manager has wasted no time in making changes to his playing staff. Having only been in charge of BCFC for a few days the new gaffer has told three players, Evander Sno, Patrick Agyemang and Alvaro Saborio, that they will not feature in his first team plans and so has terminated their loans and they will return to their clubs tomorrow.

Sno is one of the players axed

The new man at the helm has also wasted no time in adding to his squad with two season long loan additions. The two players to join the Robins are Pat McCourt from Celtic and Fabrice Muamba from Bolton. Both Players have stated that they are delighted to join Bristol season and hope to establish themselves in the first team. We can now bring you a statement from the Bristol Boss.

I am delighted to have secured two high quality players on season long loans. I had to persuade Owen Coyle that Fabrice would be a regular and he would improve at our club and we our delighted that he agreed. Pat McCourt is a great addition as he can play on either side of the midfield. I also am sad to let three good players leave the club but I had no option as I wanted to free up wages so I could get the players I wanted. I would hope that we will have one or two more players joining us before the season starts. Thanks

Hopefully have the pre season and rest of the transfer news update tomorrow for those interested lads :D

Pre Season

The squad where put through a rigorous training programme through the pre season in a bid to fit for the start of the season. As well as the hard training the club also had 8 friendly matches in which we went unbeaten. During the challenge matches I gave the whole squad a run out and had a good look at some of the youth team. Below is the friendly matches we played.

Bristol Boss Gets His Men

Today the new Bristol Boss has confirmed he has secured the signings of three more players. The two players that have been signed on permanent transfers are young Irish full back Seamus Coleman who arrives at Ashton Gate from Everton for a fee believed to be around 325k after signing a 5 year contract. The other player secured by the manager is veteran Spanish midfielder Capi who joins from Betis for 250k. Capi has played over 400 games for Betis and is a well known name in the Spanish game. Capi has also represented the Spanish national side on four occasions.

Former Betis Captain

We can now bring you a statement from Capis agent:

This was a very big decision for Capi to make as he has played for his beloved Betis his whole career. However Capi stated that he wanted to play in England before he retired from the game. I am sure capi will be a huge success in England and the fans at Bristol will love him.

The other player Bristol have secured is probably the biggest coup of the lot has the Bristol manager has persuaded Sir Alex to let Federico Macheda join the Robins on a season long loan. Bristol an Utd have also announced a link between the two clubs.

federico-macheda.jpg

Macheda will be a Bristol City player next year

Having secured the signing of three new players Bristol City have also let two players leave the club. These players are Ivan Sproule and Gavin Williams. Sproule has joined QPR for 400k while Williams went to Middlesbrough for 375k.

Ivan has joined QPR

We can now bring you the reaction from the Bristol City manager on all the clubs transfer dealings in the past few days.

It has certainly been a busy few days but I am delighted we have got three top quality players to the club. I firmly believe that Capi will prove to be the bargain of the window and will become a Bristol City hero this season. We are all still pinching ourselves as well that we have managed to get Macheda for the rest of the season. Seamus will also be a great signing for the club and he was a bright future ahead of him. Having signed these players I also had to let a few go and of course I would have liked to keep them but when the offers came in both myself and the chairman felt the money was right. There still could a bit more transfer activity at the club but we will have to wait an see what develops. Thanks guys
