Yay I'll get Shogun 2 and a new graphics card thingy mmablob for my bday!

Since most you are recomending it, I will try Rome MTW2 before I head for the Shogun 2. Was a big fan C&C series and AOE. Also played Warcraft and Starcraft, but so far the best ever was no doubt Age of Empires 3, Napoleonic Era mode, love to play with the Sweden, Swiss and Prussia... Love that Death Hussar Guard!!!

But imo, the Swedish fusilier was quite OP, its like the Hatamoto, but much better.

Huge fan of the total war series, play Rome(w/ barbarian invasion pack), Medieval II(w/ Kingdoms pack) & Empire which has been my favorite. favorite unit has proven to be the Russian Strelats, just enjoy charging them into the enemy axe first which has been a surprisingly devastating charge.

Another mod for Medieval 2 is Deus Lo Vult. It is still set in medieval Europe, but is going for a more realistic approach. Ie, armies need food to march - if there is not food they get angry. There is a military ranking system, tutoring of young generals, and a lot of other RPG elements. It is pretty complex, but well worth getting your head around as it adds so much more depth to the game IMO.

It's different to those games but imo is better.

Shogun was ******* awesome when it came out, aside from archers being terriawful. Every TW game since has had computer AI the equivelant of a stoned baboon though. There's a reason the computer doesn't use the same system for playing as humans (upkeep, money etc). Prefer the Civilization series any day.

I used to LOVE Rome. Something about the units and time frame gave it a grungy rip off your head and eat your heart feel. Also being able to manipulate the family tree was nice.

I downloaded Empire from steam, and have been playing it with Darth Mod Empire. Quite fun as they fix most problems. I'm waiting for DMUC 6.4 to come out soon so I can start playing again. I've been trying to start as the Italian States (starting in Rome) and attempting to unify Italy! However this has proven difficult with Spain holding Milan and Naples and Sardinia. And If you attack Genoa, Savoy, or Venice, you risk ******* off the larger powers who will blockade your single port for 50 years.
