Tbf Mike. Chelsea weren't really punished. They were banned then had it rescinded on appeal.. They didn't miss out on anything

It's about how blatant it is - the rules need to be tightened because at the moment, clubs get away with it all the time:

Nottingham Forest manager Brian Clough later said, "we tapped more players than the Severn-Trent water board!"

"[Chelsea] were then in the midst of another controversial episode of possibly unsettling/tapping up fernando Torres from Liverpool who mysteriously put in a transfer request a couple of days before the January 2011 transfer window shut. Harry Redknapp, manager of Tottenham Hotspur, has said that activity which verges upon 'tapping-up' regularly occurs in deals between Premier League clubs, and Scott Minto, a pundit for Sky Sports, said that the ban was "extremely harsh" because of the frequency of it."

Wasn't there something the other day from RAWK saying he'd already agreed personal terms with Downing and had told him in Jan not to renew his contract? And then people said "Kenny's still at it" etc.

Something Rawk =/= tapping up

again the use of Clough hardly compares. if a deal has been reached, and arsenal can be prove it, thats a clear case of tapping up likes chelseas and will be judged. until then lets actually wait for some facts.

And chelsea approached liverpool and torres in the previous summer

If I'm honest, I don't think we were ever in for him. I think Hazard, perhaps. But we're linked with all France based players due to Comolli.

But the point is that it's not up to Arsenal to prove it. FIFA do ****** all to try and prevent it - the Ashley Cole case is pretty much the only one recently that has been proved. It can't be that difficult to prove - FIFA just aren't bothered to do that or anything else.

well actually it kinda is upto them. innocent till proven guilty. They must present something on which it can be investigated

surpised by that, would fit them well

STOKE City boss Tony Pulis is tracking Liverpool midfielder Christian Poulsen after seeing the Denmark international drop down the pecking order at Anfield.

Pulis is convinced the big clubs will be busy in the transfer market this summer, and that could leave Stoke in with a shout of a clutch of players like Poulsen at Liverpool, his French team-mate David Ngog, Manchester United midfielder Darron Gibson and even winger Shaun Wright-Phillips at Manchester City.

It could also re-open the possibility of an ambitious inquiry for Tottenham's Jermaine Jenas after another frustrating campaign of only 14 league starts for the 28-year-old former England midfielder.

But there is little chance of a return trip to try to sign Liverpool midfielder Lucas after the Brazil international not only penned a recent contract extension, but also won their player-of-the-year trophy.

"I expect it to be a busy close-season," said Pulis. "A lot of money will be spent at the top end of the market – not just Man City, as everyone expects, but also United, Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool and Tottenham. I think they will all have a go.

"That either clogs up the market because unwanted players are sitting on big contracts that clubs like us will not pay, or hopefully it might free the market up if their clubs help out so we can do the deals."

Poulsen especially fits the bill for Pulis after moving from Juventus for £4.5m last summer and failing to adapt to the English game in the pressure-cooker atmosphere at Anfield.

The 31-year-old Dane has figured just six times since Kenny Dalglish took charge at Liverpool in January and would arrive at the Britannia with a point to prove.

Pulis will also have done his homework on Poulsen via his Danish compatriot Thomas Sorensen.

All I'm trying to say is that IF TRUE, it's a clear breach of FIFA tapping up rules. Don't see what the problem with that is. I haven't said it definitely is true, I just said that even if it is, I doubt they'll be found guilty because clubs rarely are. The rules need to be tightened IMO but that's it from me because we're going off-topic. (continue by VM or something if you need to)

Re: Liverpool - Maxi + Suarez for the LW. Both "inverted wingers" as it were (obviously Suarez is actually a CF but can play LF). Do they need another player who would be pretty similar to them in Hazard (or Gervinho? I don't know much about him). Obviously he's better than Maxi but there's not a huge amount of point IMO paying £20m for a player you don't really need. They should be looking for a proper winger IMO - hence the interest in Downing.

Liverpool have joined Bolton in the race for unsettled Monaco forward Park Chu-Young, according to reports in France.

Spurs boss Harry Redknapp is closing in on £12million Roma striker Mirko Vucinic, according to the Daily Mirror.

LOLFEST: Interesting tale in the Daily Star claiming Arsenal are planning a shock move for Tottenham striker Jermain Defoe.

Hm, I can't even find it now, aha. But it was from a guy who knows his stuff, otherwise I wouldn't follow him on Twitter. Either a Merseyside journo or Itk.

Think whoever it was was wrong mate. Seems to be getting confirmed now that a deal has been struck on our second offer. Seems like a hefty cash sum up front and a player who wants to move works wonders. We'll see though.

Harry Redknapp is closing in on the capture of Scott Parker from West Ham United and the deal is expected to be completed once the sale of Wilson Palacios is agreed. The Tottenham Hotspur manager may also welcome the 21-year-old Brazil striker Leandro Damião, although the deal is being driven by the chairman, Daniel Levy, with Redknapp thought to prefer a more experienced signing.

Spurs got themselves a good player

Harry Redknapp not the one pushing through the young signing? Fancy that. Why bother signing youth if you're only planning to stick around for another year or two?

Really frustrated with the Parker transfer. I am still hoping he moves elsewhere. Looked well out of his depth today for England.

Swansea losing Neil Taylor and Ashley Williams each for 1million to Newcastle and QPR respectively, due to buyout clauses in their contracts.

Source - Twitter - Reliable for QPR so far, said no points deduction from the start.
