Do you have to put a downer on everything all the time? Lighten up!!

(Godcubed - I've changed my mind. I'm going to shoot Calum instead: The Arsenal Thread)

RTW - There's probably a reason Birmingham went down last season... Not saying Dann is a bad player, but is he what Arsenal need? An experienced defender? (Dann has 50 PL apps and is only 24). I think he just gets linked with us because he's English and meant to be no-nonsense which is what the media think we need. Not sure there's any truth in it and I doubt we're making a last minute bid with Wenger with the French squad doing TV work.

their partnership was broken up through injuries, but they went down because of a severe lack of goals too. but hes a very good defender, yes hes "no nonsense" but hes also good on the ball, and at an age where he can still be well influenced by thew way arsene wants to play

There's probably a reason Birmingham's form went completely down when he got injured for half the season.

They were in trouble for most of the season. Dann still made 20 apps.

EDIT: Not saying he's bad. Just that we need a experienced PL defender that hasn't helped his side get relegated. Experienced surely = late 20s - 30s no? Not 24. That's the same age as Vermaelen and a year younger than Kos who every one says is inexperienced yet he's played 20 less games than Dann in the PL.

Not sure how he "helped" his side down. Still more experienced than either player, has more about his defending than Kos, very good with set pieces at both ends of the pitch, good on the ball, still fairly young so plenty left in him.

thats exactly my point, you are paying CL wages, without the CL revenue. If needed arsenal could probably outdo you on that front.

You need to ship those two out. nearly 250k on those two, thats 4 players wages there

Didn't that Jovanovic figure include his sign on bonus though?

Interesting, not the sort of striker Spurs should be going for though. Redknapp obviously impressed by his performance in the FA Cup. Scorer of great goals rather than a scorer of goals though.

Good player, but I agree; not what Spurs need. They need a goalscorer, so far Dembele's not really been that.

Agreed. Including his signing on fee Jovanovic is on £120k a week. Appalling.

was Jonavic not good at standard Leige as thats why you signed him?

he's a decent player, just hasnt clicked for him. but 120k is outrageous.

to put it into context: thats what we pay Rio Ferdinand

Jovanovic was Belgian player of the year a bunch of times, plays well for Serbia around the World Cup, too.

I always liked Dembele, but he's not a consistent goalscorer like Spurs need. Good player though.

Liverpool’s shock and awe approach to the transfer market will lead the club lodge bids for both Blackpool captain Charlie Adam and Aston Villa winger Stewart Downing after completing a £20 million deal for Sunderland’s Jordan Henderson.

The Anfield side last night agreed terms with their Premier League rivals to make the 20-year-old midfielder Kenny Dalglish’s first signing since he was confirmed as Liverpool’s permanent manager, subject to a medical to be held today. The deal will see Liverpool pay £13 million and the £7 million-rated striker David N’Gog move to the Stadium of Light in part exchange.
With Henderson’s personal terms unlikely to pose a problem and days of informal negotiation with Sunderland at an end, Dalglish and Liverpool’s Director of Football Damien Comolli can now turn their focus on to other targets.
Liverpool are determined to conduct the majority of their transfer dealings before their squad reconvene at the club’s Melwood base for the start of pre-season training in early July and the club will waste no time in adding to the signing of Henderson, with Adam and Downing both viewed as priorities.
To secure Adam, the Anfield club are likely to be told to improve on the ultimately unsuccessful £7 million offer they lodged for the Scotland international in January, though Blackpool’s subsequent relegation weakens their negotiating position considerably.
Downing, meanwhile, is expected to cost around £10 million after admitting last week that he is “not sure” where his future lies. Dalglish believes the width the former Middlesbrough player, who has refused to extend his contract at Villa Park, could provide as crucial to eliciting the best from Andy Carroll.

The Liverpool manager, along with Comolli and the club’s owners, Fenway Sports Group, are keen to infuse the club’s squad with young, native talent, leading to moves for Henderson, Phil Jones of Blackburn and Ipswich striker Connor Wickham, but exceptions will be made for both Adam, 27, and Downing, 26, as well as Newcastle’s Spanish left back, Jose Enrique, and Roma’s Brazilian goalkeeper Doni.
The Anfield side have also been linked with a move for the Barcelona winger Jeffren Suarez, who has just a year left on his contract at Camp Nou.
The Spanish under-21 international yesterday told the radio station Cadena SER that it was an “honour” to be tracked by Liverpool, who are believed to have indicated their interest to the player’s representatives. Though the 23-year- would prefer to stay at the European champions, he is available for around £8 million.
More likely, though, is a £9 million bid for Enrique in the coming weeks, with Newcastle’s belief that the player – who has thus far refused to discuss a new contract – will leave evidenced by their decision to offer Swansea £1 million for their left back, Neil Taylor, yesterday.
The St James’s Park club will be told that they must increase that offer substantially to have any hope of securing a replacement for Enrique, but sources have confirmed he is viewed as a replacement for the former Villarreal player.
Doni, meanwhile, will provide backup to Pepe Reina after Liverpool agreed a £1 million deal with Roma. “Doni would be very happy to join Liverpool and play in the Premier League,” his agen

Sevilla - Perotti not for sale
Argentine winger reported to be wanted by Spurs and Reds

Sevilla have warned Liverpool and Tottenham that Argentina winger Diego Perotti will not be on the move this summer.

The Premier League duo are reported to be among a host of clubs who have shown an interest in the former Deportivo Moron man, who moved to Spain in 2007. Juventus are also understood to be monitoring the progress of the talented 22-year-old, but the Spanish side will not entertain any offers.

president Jose Maria Del Nido has informed any interested parties that one of their star men will not be heading for the exit in the transfer window. Del Nido said: "He is not for sale. Clubs in England an Italy have called us to ask about him. "But our answer remains the same. He does not have a price because we do not want to sell."

Would be an ambitious signing, I'd like to see him in the Premier League

In fairness Mike, it's really 60k plus his signing fee spread out over first year of contact. Do that to any player (including Ferdinand) and their wages will double and more... Do it with Joe Cole's wages and he'd be hitting 200k+ a week.

Obscene wages are obscene really though.

Yeah, but different situation really. Surely if someone supports Liverpool, and has the option to choose between them and Arsenal, his heart would push him to Liverpool.

Ramsey United fan had an option to choose between United and Arsenal. His deal was as good as done deal only to change in the last moment and sign for Arsenal.

Smalling was a Arsenal fan but rejected them to move to United...

Even sky says the total value of deal is £20m with Ngog included in that. £13m + Ngog for Henderson would be perhaps even more accurate.
The page has been updated since I linked it, at first it said £20m + N'Gog.

£13m + N'Gog isn't too bad then.
