He would be expensive, and we know Wenger no like spending large money.

Hazard is exactly the kind of player Wenger will spend money on, though. He's perfectly willing to spend money on good, emergency signings - Nasri, Arshavin being the best two examples - but won't spend money needlessly on someone like Cahill when he can sign someone better, or just as good for less.

Genuinely think the only thing stopping this going through is whether Hazard wants to move to Spain. If Lille say they want more than £20m then it's perhaps unlikely Arsenal will go for him at this stage but I don't think they're in a position to tbh. Still cautious about the deal, though. I don't want to get my hopes up..

Hazard wont go unless he is a starter which means selling arshavin

It doesn't necessarily (mean selling Arshavin) but I agree and that's perfectly feasible (being a starter). Wenger's comments about Ryo Myiachi suggest Arshavin may be on his way sooner rather than later as well.

By the way - if Utd's main competitors for Varenne's signature are meant to be Arsenal then I suspect he's on his way to Utd. I think Wenger has a lot of faith in Bartley and/or Miquel to make the grade at Arsenal and then we also have 18 year old Martin Angha in the Reserves. Not saying they're better than him, just that it makes a deal for Varennes unlikely unless we were to offload one of them.

I'd like it if Walcott wasn't wanted, he could come to his boyhood club =O

Swindon/Newbury/Southampton?

i guess it depends on arshavin being happy on the bench, and if you are bringing through myiachi (providing he can cut is as cover, otherwise there is no point) then raise funds with his sale

he was pretty interested, in fact it was that interest that has sped up our movement, i think we were looking at end of next season for him.

I just mean that Wenger won't necessarily move Arshavin on if we sign Hazard. The latter would be first choice, and Wenger would have to make a decision - probably sell - but I wouldn't be surprised, particularly considering Ryo's WP issues if he stayed.

I've no doubt Wenger was INTERESTED. He's interested in most promising young players around the globe but I'd be surprised if we were interested enough to get in a bidding war considering our other options - whereas Utd have Smalling, who's been superb, Brown (who's old), Ferdinand (who won't necessarily play a full season) and Evans (who isn't that great).

He was, predictably, a Liverpool fan.

Could probably have guessed that... Figured RTW supported Southampton or someone as well.

i also think the fact he can play a holding role has moved things too (end of hargreaves?) clearly SAF rates him, and isnt taking any chances after what happened with ramsey

Manchester United poised to sign Lens prospect Raphaël Varane | Football | The Guardian

Interesting quotes from that are:

"Lens initially asked for around £10m for a player who signed a new contract in February to tie him to the club to 2015." -> Wenger won't pay £10m with the options he already has there. Frimpong and Coquelin at DM, too. A young CB/DM is not needed and I'm sure AW was interested but probably only at a cut-price.. SAF wants him more, partly because:

"The fact Varane can also play in a holding midfield role will also appeal to Ferguson, especially as Owen Hargreaves's contract at Old Trafford runs out next month."

sometimes my brain is just on a perfect wavelength... 10m in structured payments, happy with that

I'm chuffed that we're getting this guy, can't wait to see how he adapts to english football.

its the fail.
will believe it when they make the bid

its El Mundo Deportivo,The 2 players, chosen from 4 and who would be sold with buy-back option, would not be Thiago nor Bojan, who could be included in Rossi deal.

Sorry barca but its 35 to 40 M straight

no addons or fringe players to put the price down

if you cant afford you cant have !

Dont see how people can label man city's signings flops after one season. Malouda for example was **** for chelsea first season and he was the best midfielder in the league last year, same with berba in his first year at spurs. Give the players like Dzeko, Milner and Boateng a chance, they will all come good.

Cant see us signing many players tbh, 3-4 at most and only one will be a first team player, rest will be backups like barry etc.
