We've had some poor *** full backs in the last few years. I mean, start of '06/7 season started, we were going to sign Dani Alves but refused to pay an extra 3 million >.<
 
Just on the Coentrao story. The original Portugese report is that we placed an offer for 22m Euros. Whoever writes for those blag sites are absolute retards. 22m Euros is roughly £19m. It's unlikely be true. But it's a lovely warm glowy place to be in for Liverpool supporters right now, so we're dreaming.

The Downing transfer is the real story today. Young will be off to Manchester, Downing is choosing between us and Spurs.
 
Not surprising. Someone says 25m is too much for a left back and suddenly a bunch of replies about Torres move. Yes, it wasn't a good buy, but you just can't compare a left back with a striker. I personally don't think 25m is too much for a great, young left back, but c'mon.

I dont doubt hes a good player i just think 25m for a LB is crazy, i know we spent 50m on a striker but strikers effect the game a lot more than a LB. Using such a big chunk of your budget on a position that isn't necessarily going to win you games is stupid in my eyes.

I'm happy with that, I rate Downing a lote more than Young. Far more intelligent as a footballer than him, can play on either flank and would be able to get a tasty ball in the box.

Sol Campbell is getting a **** of a lot of flack on twitter regarding his release from Newcastle.

Twitter - not spoke to anyone at #NUFC today. I was informed from my agent about my release although fully expected it. Can move to bigger club now.

Only 98 followers. Thats what he gets for being a mong. He honestly thinks he should be playing for a bigger club? He needs to move to America or UAE imo, a big last pay day, as he wont be playing for a good team in europe anytime soon.

Not happy with his release? when he played, he was ****. Thought he would have been the ever-reliable backup, not a flailing mess

That's utter ****. A good left back will influence the game just as much as, if not more than a striker. Defending, helping keep possession if, like Coentrao, he pushes up high enough and attacking/providing width and crosses in the final 3rd. Full-backs are increasingly important in the modern game - Clichy has cost Arsenal several times this season, for example while Sagna has been one of our best players.

I doubt that account is the real deal tbh. And Dunc - he doesn't exactly owe Newcastle much respect. It's not like they've helped his career much and now they're releasing him. Why can't he say he wants to go a bigger club? That could mean anything... He's not saying a "big club", just bigger than mid-table obviously.

Downing and Mata would be a nice pair of wingers to have if we can swing it. Certainly little point having Young and Mata - far too alike, and Young would never get a game. Downing offers genuine width. We need genuine width, not yet another winger who thinks he can 'play in the hole'.

It is his real one. when he did play, he was a liability.

Or rather, he should pay us respect, considering we paid him wages for a year, and he obviously wasn't good enough to get into our first team, if he was, he would be playing. He isn't good enough to play higher than mid table, although, you obviously have a ***** for him, so I suppose you would welcome him back to Arsenal as your new starting centre back? Awesome.

My point still stands, he isn't good enough to play for a top division club, in the top european leagues anyway.
