Only bringing a few faces in to balance the books from the outgoings. I'm looking to rely on homegrown talent instead of splashing money left right and centre. The best managers in the game don't have to spent millions upon millions every year. The only exception was Mark Matomane who is for the future. In a pre-season friendly he really stood out and for a measly fee of 200k it's not even much of a risk.

Some fans are furious at some of the players being let go. I didn't want to see either Adama Traore or Ricardo Kishna go but their release clauses was met by two of the big dogs in the game and you cannot try deny a player an opportunity like that and they will go on to better their careers and become world class players. I was happy to let Bittencourt and Regini go as I feel that we have options in our youth to replace them easily and have done brilliantly to receive 20m for the both of them. Elkeson was one I was left scratching my head at.. Fantastic last year and looked sharp in pre-season but wages of 85k a week which was almost triple what any other player was currently on at the club I couldn't accept that. He would of been amazing for us this year but I don't base a team round an individual so he was let go to Stuttgart. Instead of going out looking to spend millions on replacements for now I still think the squad is strong and able to compete. Instead this is what I have done with a slice of the money.

Brilliant read this mate and one **** of a career for a 23 yr old...some brilliant signings for Sheffield Utd aswell, Adam and Griffiths to name a couple...be interesting to see how you get on with Ajax now :-) (bit surprised you let Bittencourt go though as he has amazing potential on the game)...
Anyway, good luck at Ajax, looking forward to many more updates.

Thanks bud, yeah I'm trying to play the game realistic as I can. If Ajax came knocking theres no way you'd turn them down haha! But Bittencourt was originally 3rd choice behind Traore then Schone and for 15m in the Eredivisie it was hard to turn down.

Europa League 2nd Qualifying round 1st leg
Thursday 20th July 2017

Amsterdam ArenA

Ajax 2 - 0 Hacken
Schone (3', 40')

MOTM: Lasse Schone

Routine and expected, we should be qualifying to the next round but we won't take this as a result which we rest on our lorals. We want to have convincing wins and make us look a force in this competition for other teams to fear. A brace from long serving Lasse Schone gives us the advantage for when we return to Sweden.

Europa League 2nd Qualifying round 2nd leg
Thursday 27th July 2017

Nya Rambergsvallen

Hacken 0 - 2 Ajax (0-4 agg)
Ekdal (11'), Schone (82')

MOTM: Lasse Schone

We did the job. We've got through to the next round of qualifying with two clean sheets in successive games and with no pressure to really test us, we know we will be up against better opponents in the future but winning these games will stand us in good stead in the future.

3rd Qualifying round draw:
Ajax v Lech Poznan

Europa League 3rd Qualifying round 1st leg
Thursday 3rd August 2017

INEA

Lech Poznan 0 - 5 Ajax
Zivkovic (20', 65'), Schone (32', 71'), Ekdal (44')

MOTM: Richairo Zivkovic

No doing the Poznan for the Lech fans today, we took them to the cleaners and wiped the floor with them. My young striker Zivkovic registered twice today who I have chosen to lead the line this year, at 20 years old he will keep improving but at times he will go wrong we know that. But we will protect him.

Europa League 3rd Qualifying round 2nd leg
Tuesday 10th August 2017

Amsterdam ArenA

Ajax 2 - 2 Lech Poznan (7-2 agg)
Wilson (74'), Ekdal (77')

MOTM: Harry Wilson

We didn't win today but we made a huge variety of changes to give some fresh faces a chance of European football. It was nice to see who took their chances and a few caught my eye but in particular, Harry Wilson was the one who shone the brightest and will be used sparingly.

Europa League 4th Qualifying round draw:
Grasshoppers v Ajax

Europa League 4th Qualifying round 1st leg
Thursday 24th August 2017
Amsterdam ArenA

Ajax 7 - 0 Grasshoppers
Schone (12', 25', 54'), Zivkovic (17', 57', 77'), O.G. (49')

MOTM: Lasse Schone

It seems Schone and Zivkovic are battling it out with eachother who can score more. We was excellent today and I don't think no team would of wanted to fancy coming up against us. Everything we touched turned to goals, it was a delight to see Lasse Schone our captain personally deliver the matchball to young Zivkovic at the end of the game showing how much of a team ethos we have.

Europa League 4th Qualifying round 2nd leg

Letzigrund

Grasshoppers 0 - 2 Ajax (0-9 agg)
Zivkovic (33', 67')

MOTM:
Richairo Zivkovic

We've qualified!! I would have loved the Champions League but this is still the biggest competition I have ever managed in so I'll take my babysteps and keep learning. We have kept 5 clean sheets out of 6 games in these qualifiers which has delighted me. We look forward to the draw of our group.

We've prepared for the start of the Eredivisie and we are both physically and mentally ready.

Eredivisie
Sunday 6th August 2017

Gelredome

Vitesse 1 - 4 Ajax
Zivkovic (31', 78'), Veltman (50'), Onazi (72')

MOTM: Richairo Zivkovic

Great opening day away at Vitesse. It took us just over half an hour to open our account where young Richairo Zivkovic has had a excellent start to this season and proved why he is no longer a backup player and can say he is our star striker. A nice way to get the season underway

Eredivisie
Sunday 13th August 2017

Amsterdam ArenA

Ajax 4 - 1 VVV-Venlo
Schone (17', 35', 88'), Zivkovic (58')

MOTM: Lasse Schone

Wow. What a reception I received today from the amazing fans on my home debut in the league. We topped off that positivity with another 4-1 win on the bounce and a great performance. This time it was Lasse Schone who took the ball home and didn't have to give it to Zivkovic. Great team morale topped off with smiles come the full time whistle.

Eredivisie
Sunday 20th August 2017

de Vijverberg

De Graafschap 1 - 3 Ajax
Schone (55', 90+1'), Zivkovic (72')

MOTM: Lasse Schone

Well what can I say? These two cannot stop scoring and are both on fire. They also compliment eachothers play so comfortably. I've never seen two players link up aswell as they do. It's just a little gutting we havn't kept a clean sheet in the league yet despite 100% success and thats the only bone I have to pick with the team.

Eredivisie
Sunday 27th August 2017

Euroborg

Groiningen 0 - 2 Ajax
Kishna (6'), Zivkovic (44')

MOTM: Ricardo Kishna

Ricardo signed off in style today with many of us gained knowledge of him in terms with Man City discussing terms but he didn't give less than 110% and signed off in style, I wish the young lad the best for the future as he has a cracking future in the game. We also kept a clean sheet which the players took on board what I said last game.

How could I possibly choose? Zivkovic has 12 goals in all competitions already this season and Schone has 13. A great season ahead for these two if they work as hard as they have been doing.

Eredivisie
Sunday 3rd September 2017

Amsterdam ArenA

Ajax 0 - 1 PSV

MOTM: Abdelhak Nouri

Gutted.. we suffer defeat to one of our biggest rivals and we dominated the match, it's never easy to take a defeat but it's hurt even more that it's in the derby which we dominated. I feel the fans deserved this result and I promise that we will bounce back and come back stronger after this game.

Eredivisie
Saturday 16th September 2017

Amsterdam ArenA

Ajax 4 - 1 Heerenveen
Zivkovic (8', 60'), O.G. (55'), Schone (87')

MOTM: Lasse Schone

Back to winning ways. Maybe it was just a kick up the **** we needed after maybe getting a little comfortable and in cruise control. We put our foot back on the gas and hit Heerenveen hard. Zivkovic and Schone continue their fine goalscoring form for us. We go again into European waters this time against Dundee.

Europa League Group J
Thursday 21st September 2017

Amsterdam ArenA

Ajax 6 - 1 Dundee Utd
Fischer (6', 26'), Tete (20'), Wilson (50', 84'), Schone (66')

MOTM: Viktor Fischer

What a way to open up the group in the Europa League. It in all honestly should have been more and we embarrassed Dundee today, the quality of football on show was fantastic and some players registered their first goals this evening. The pick of the goals was a 30 yard piledriver from young fullback Kenny Tete.

Eredivisie
Sunday 24th September 2017

De Kuip

Feyenoord 1 - 2 Ajax
Zivkovic (10'), Lens (63')

MOTM: Lasse Schone

Another Derby. This time we are victorious and the feeling of the game feels so much better than last time round against PSV. Feyenoord have somewhat fallen down the competition of challenging for the league in recent years as 1999 was the last time they won the league but have always been classed as one of the big teams in the Eredivisie. The lads can be proud of themselves today.

Dutch Cup 2nd Round
Wednesday 27th September 2017

Sportpark Abdijhof

Lienden
0 - 3 Ajax
Roshanali (19', 26'), Andersen (33')

MOTM: Erik Roshanali

This is what footballs all about. Lienden a small part-time team have come up against us and it reminds me of my days of a club I was taking my coaching badges at, small stadium with chanting fans ready for their pie and bovril before a game. I really enjoyed this game and got a chance to use some players which have been performing well for the B team and youth team. One player stood out as he got a brace and opened up my eyes which I'll be keeping a sharp eye on him in the future.

Well, well, well.
I received a phone call after Guus Hiddink was dismissed of his duties and the Dutch association that they have been impressed with me during my start in Dutch football and they would like me to bring in my philosophy with the national team. I have spoke to the board and asked them of their approval and they accepted that only because of the nation it was it was important to have somebody in charge of the national team to bring through the quality batch of next players. The Dutch finished 4th in the World Cup qualifiers meaning there will be no World Cup for us in Russia but we do have time to build a team for the Euros.

Without hesitation after, I accepted.

Eredivisie
Sunday 1st October 2017

Amsterdam ArenA

Ajax 4 - 1 Heracles
Fischer (14', 75'), Nouri (15'), Onazi (41')

MOTM: Viktor Fischer

After rewarding him with a new deal, Abdelhak Nouri repaid me in scoring his first goal for the club in a professional game. We again win by a convincing scoreline and another pleasing performance. Heracles was weak today and we exploited every area they exposed to us.

Europa League Group J
Thursday 5th October 2017

U Nisy

Slovan Liberic 0 - 2 Ajax
Veltman (67'), Lens (75')

MOTM: Joel Veltman

We worried ourselves today that it may have ended stalemate. It took us just past the hour mark for Joel to thump home a commanding header for us to take the lead, previous to this we lacked any sort of real chances then we sealed the game with a goal from Jeremain Lens who hasn't had the best of starts this season but we are still young in the season.

Eredivisie
Sunday 8th October 2017

Grolsch Veste

FC Twente 1 - 2 Ajax
Schone (13'), Onazi (61')

MOTM: Ogenyi Onazi

A much tighter fair than our last two games and Twente gave us a real test. Despite us winning it could have gone either way and I will count our blessings that the gods gave the right chances to us. We look very unbeatable in matches and always look a threat when going forward.

Eredivisie
Friday 20th October 2017

Amsterdam ArenA

Ajax 4 - 2 AZ Alkamaar
Fischer (34'), Andersen (49', 80'), O.G. (90+2'), Viergever sent off

MOTM: Lucas Andersen

Disappointing in the manner we finished this game, sailing at 3-0 and a stupid sending off for a challenge that never needed to be made left us in the lurch for a good half an hour and AZ managed to pull two goals back and made us sweat till we regained our two goal position a minute from time. We put ourselves in that position and nearly dropped points today.

Europa League Group J
Thursday 26th October 2017

Amsterdam ArenA

Ajax 3 - 0 Sevilla
Fischer (5'), O.G. (27'), Zivkovic (57')

MOTM: Albin Ekdal

We are trouncing anyone we play at this moment in time, favorites for the group Sevilla was made to look silly by us as we danced around them all night infront of our spectacular fans. Whenever we lost the ball we hunted as a team to win it back, we looked more hungrier than Sevilla tonight and deserved what we got.

Eredivisie
Sunday 29th October 2017

Galgenwaard

Utrecht 0 - 4 Ajax
Ekdal (13', 38', 41'), Schone (63')

MOTM: Albin Ekdal

Now it's Ekdal's turn to chip in with a hat-trick. We have had three different players score a hat-trick this year already for us and we are only in October!!! It's great to see such a variety of goalscorers all hungry to get on the sheet and want success. We piled more misery on for Utrecht who are really struggling this year in the Eredivisie

Dutch Cup 3rd Round
Thursday 2nd November 2017

Amsterdam ArenA

Ajax 4 - 0 NEC
Zivkovic (8', 32', 47'), Schone (37')

MOTM: Richaio Zivkovic

Manage to dispose of NEC of the Jupiler League in easy fashion as we was out of sight at half-time. Yet another hat-trick from that man Zivkovic who is relishing the faith I showed in making him our priority striker this year and he's become a quick fan favorite. Yet again Lasse chipped in with a goal.

Eredivisie
Sunday 5th November 2017

Amsterdam ArenA

Ajax 3 - 0 Zwolle
Zivkovic (38', 65'), Fischer (87')

MOTM:
Richairo Zivkovic

Unbelievable again, I have some team at my disposal here at Ajax. I think we must have set a record in this game as we fielded 11 players which have all come through our youth team and are still here today. That is some achievement and how well we are playing, Richairo made it 5 in 2 games and is continuing his fine form of recent.

Europa League Group J
Thursday 9th November 2017

Ramon Sanchez-Pizjuan

Sevilla 2 - 2 Ajax
Ekdal (34'), Fischer (85')

MOTM: Viktor Fischer

Gutted that we conceded an equalizer in the last minute but we've managed to qualify from the group which was originally our objective and for a club against Sevilla a draw away from home is never heartbreaking. We did ourselves proud and can prepare for the final game in the group against Dundee.

Eredivisie
Sunday 12th November 2017

Amsterdam ArenA

Ajax 4 - 1 Go Ahead Eagles
Andersen (4'), Boilesen (10'), Nouri (58'), Walian (65'), Tete sent off

MOTM: Nicolai Boilesen

We just seem to be faultless, we've only slipped up once in the league all season and we still played well that match, I'm pleased as always from the team and a big delight for us after youth player Ezra Walian made his debut for the club today coming off the bench to net a goal which won't do him any harm for future selection.

Cambuur Stadion

Cambuur 0 - 2 Ajax
Zivkovic (1'), Schone (15')

MOTM: Nicolai Boilesen

Good fast play and we had the match sealed in the first quarter of an hour. Also pleasing to see we kept a clean sheet which is my only current little gripe with the team but that would be me just picking faults. I'm not bothered aslong as we keep getting the three points.

Europa League Group J

Great way to end the month. We've hit Dundee for 11 goals in the two games which we've played against them which shows our dominance. We look so comfortable at the minute but the attitude I get from my players every game is fantastic and I'm loving managing this club.
