Game 1 was a fantastic 5 goal thriller. Spurs went 2-0 up before Wolves' inspired comeback got them level. Angel Di Maria came off the bench to smash in an Aaron Lennon cross to kick off the season with a win.
The second win of the month came in the League Cup against League 1 side Oldham. Spurs without really excelling scored 2 goals via Jermain Defoe to put them in the hat for the next round which saw them draw Watford.
Dissapointing results against Stoke, Hull and Liverpool though. Away at Stoke its not clever to go 2-0 down before you start playing and thats exactly what Spurs did. Tommy Huddlestone got a goal back but Spurs couldnt pull Stoke's lead back. Next was Hull at White Hart Lane and a sensational performance from Boaz Myhill ment Spurs were held to a 0-0 bore draw. Liverpool was the only league defeat but after taking the lead through Sebastian Bassong but that sparked Liverpool into life and Steven Gerrard and Yossi Benayoun turned it round for the scousers.

Di Maria was the match winner in Game 1 against Wolves to secure a valuable first day win. His impressive appearances off the bench have gave the team a real boost when they need it most.

The month started and ended badly with loses against Bolton and Sunderland. Spurs just didnt have their shooting boots on as chance after chance was wasted on both occasions.
2 fantastic wins first at home to Burnley winning 5-1. Robbie Keane was put into the starting 11 for Jermain Defoe and Keane thanked his manager by banging in 3 goals and could have had more. Palacios and Kranjcar also found the net. Next up was potentially a tricky game against Championship side Watford in the League Cup 3rd Round. Another 5-1 victory with Peter Crouch scoring a superb hat-trick and also Sebastian Bassong heading in his 2nd and 3rd goals of the season. Bassong is looking very dangerous attacking the near post.

PLAYER OF THE MONTH - PETER CROUCH
It was a close run thing for the managers player of the month award with Robbie Keane being very impresive but Peter Crouch has been key to his success. And the 201cm tall target man scored a hat-trick in the League Cup to secure a place in Round 4 against Arsenal.

Alot of positives this month but none better than the arch rival victory over Arsenal on penalties in the League Cup. Eduardo and Clichy missed for Arsenal which ment Gomes and the 4 scorers (Keane; Defoe; Di Maria; Modric) all came out of the game heroes.
Before that was 2 fantastic wins against Birmingham and Portsmouth and a brilliant draw verses Man Utd. Spurs smashed in 5 against Birmingham with Jermain Defoe striking in 3 fine goals. Tottenham then won against Portsmouth 2-0 before the draw at home to Man Utd were Spurs leveled twice to show great spirit.
Only 1 loss but a painful one for Spurs fans against fierce rivals Chelsea. Tottenham lead in the game thanks to on-form Jermain Defoe but Chelsea then moved up a gear and could have won the game by more.

View attachment 48321

PLAYER OF THE MONTH - JERMAIN DEFOE
Jermain won his place back in the starting 11 this month and scored 5 goals in 5 games which is a terrific return. He made a slow start to the campaign but a good run of form can push Spurs up the league.

Fantastic win against The Hammers. Tottenham managed to lose a 2 goal lead before regaining the lead through on form Sebastien Bassong to give Spurs the 3 points. After that a super 1-0 victory over Everton with some fantastic rearguard action from the Spurs back line. Peter Crouch got the only goal. A chance for a perfect month was wasted at Wigan, Bassong headed Spurs infront but not long after Hugo Rodallega hit back for the home side. 7 points from 9 isnt a bad return through an important month has moved the north londoners upto 9th spot.

Player of the Month - Sebastien Bassong
The dangerman at corners right now for Tottenham is Sebastien Bassong. He attacks the near post with great effect and now has 6 goals which is a great return for the center-half. He is also very solid at the back winning a series of important headers in games.

Tottenham are now upto 5th and ready to mount a charge for the Champions League. Dissapointing penalty defeat to Fulham which could have been an absoltely brilliant chance to get to a Cup Final. In the league a sweet 1-0 win over Blackburn kicked off the month very well. A heart-breaking defeat against Arsenal where Tottenham took the lead and lost it yet again. The responce to being knocked out the cup and losing to arch-rivals Arsenal was simply sublime. 3-1 against Aston Villa with Romelu Lukaku debutising and bagging a brace before Bassong got his 7th of the season. 1-0 away at Man City on boxing day made sure it was a Happy Christmas for Spurs fans with another 1-0 at home to Stoke. This was a great result as Spurs lost the reverse fixture at the Britannia. To complete the month an away win at Hull moved Spurs with some breathing space in 5th.

Player of the Month - Peter Crouch
Peter Crouch has been a real threat this month. Goals against Fulham, Arsenal and Man City. Who ever he is paired with he always puts in a good shift upfront for Spurs, holding the ball up, bring people into the game and scoring goals. He is really becoming indespensible.

Tottenham have been left ruing their chances in the FA Cup as another penalty defeat knock them out of domestic competition. Elsewhere in the league a draw against Wolves was dissapointing as Spurs really should be beating them kind of opponents. A lose at Anfield wasnt a suprise because they created hardly any chances and only Michael Dawson could bundle in a corner kick. Good back to back wins against Burnley and Bolton.

[Sorry i forgot to save the table]

Player of the Month - Peter Crouch
6 goals to start 2010 and if it wasnt for those goals, Tottenham could be really a far in the Champions League chase. It was a close run thing for POTM with Michael Dawson coming into the defence for African Nations bound Seb Bassong.

The last game of January against Bolton wasnt a great performance but Spurs got the goal and the win to go with it, The same thing happend at home to Fulham with Gareth Bale rifling in a free-kick. The trip to Sunderland always promised to be a difficult game and it duly was. Spurs fought back twice from a goal down to get an away point. Jermain Defoe and Peter Crouch with the goals. Jermain and Crouchy also got goals in the brilliant home win against Birmingham. The obvious game of the month was the trip to Manchester United. Spurs never win at the big 4 clubs...Fact! But in this one they raced into a 3-1 lead by half-time and with David Beckham coming on the 2nd half with Niko Kranjcar they managed to hold on for a memorable victory. Spurs are now a fair point gap clear of 5th place and with a game in hand of Man Utd to go with in 3 points it is a really good chance for the Champions League for the first time.

Player of the Month - Jermain Defoe
Jermain Defoe has been stuck on 9 goals until this month but he has found his shooting boots in the last 3 games by scoring 4 goals. Should he and Peter Crouch keep scoring the goals to win Spurs points, It could be a historic season.

A memorable victory ended Febuary and a memorable victory opened March. The 1-0 result at home to fierce rivals Chelsea secured a valuable 6 points back to back against 2 sides which Spurs need to overtake in order to get the vital 4th spot. Marco Verratti scored the all important goal on the 90+1 minute to send the Spurs fans into raptures. Tottenham then went to Portsmouth and came back with a 3-2 win. Spurs were 2 up when Pompey got 1 back and 3-1 up when Utaka got another 1 back. Sloppy goals being conceded but the wins still flowing. Another tough away day looked to have get the best of Spurs when Everton went 3-1 up just after the break, But Peter Crouch and Jermain Defoe scored to grab a point and keep the unbeaten run going. Spurs then lost Defoe for a week from a training injury and Robbie Keane came in to score 2 goals to secure all 3 points at home to Wigan. Spurs are now really pushing for 4th spot but who will falter ... Man Utd or Arsenal?

Manager of the Month award for Saunt

Player of the Month - Aaron Lennon
Aaron Lennon just edges the POTM award this month. Impressive Verratti and Di Maria have made big impacts on the team but Aaron Lennon is on great form. His direct running and dangerous crosses have created alot of chances for Crouch and Defoe which normally result in a shot on target for the in form Tottenham Hotspur.

April started brilliantly for Spurs with a 3-2 home win against rivals West Ham. 2 more goals for Peter Crouch which takes his tally to 22 this season but it was Robbie Keane who got the winner. 2-2 away at Blackburn is all too familiar for Tottenham, They need to improve results against the smaller sides in the league. Defoe & Crouch scored equalisers in the game. A fantastic win against arch rivals Arsenal. Sebestien Bassong was the hero. He scored the goal in the first half and was very solid at the back. Spurs now have moved with 2 points of their rivals in 3rd. Next was probably the biggest game of the season but a 3-1 defeat to Aston Villa means it will go down to the last 2 games for the Champions League place in May.

[Table next month]

Player of the Month - Marco Verratti
Since he scored the winner against Chelsea, Marco Verratti has been full of confidence. His set-pieces cause real problems and the young Italian looks very confident on the ball for such a young man.

With results not going Tottenham's way the match against Man City was a must win if they wanted Champions League but after having the lead through-out the first half Shaun Wright-Phillips equalised on the hour and the game became cagey and fizzled out into a draw. Tottenham have now confirmed a 5th place finish with Man City not being able to overturn the point gap. European trips in the Europa League to look foward to for Tottenham fans next season. The final day was a weaker Tottenham side than what has played all season but Carlo Cudicini kept a clean sheet with the defence remaining strong against Fulham. Spurs created a lot of chances but just couldnt find the net.

Overall Spurs have had a good season. 5th placed finish which means they will go back into the Europa League after a season out of the tournament. Next season's target should be to break the top 4 after taking it all the way this year. Also the Europa League, League Cup and FA Cup must be seen as winnable competitions.

Player of the Season - Sebastien Bassong
The managers choice Player of the Season goes to ... Sebastien Bassong. He played 36 of Tottenham's 44 games this season because of the African Nations Cup but is never the less an ever present in the Spurs side. He scored 8 goals this campaign and assisted 1 and won himself 3 man of the matche awards as well. Along with a managers choice Player of the Month award in November. A great first year for Seb at the club and will look to build on it next season. Fantastic job.

An opening day draw against Hull was a dissapointment despite coming back from 2-1 down. Seb Bassong picked up where he left off last season attacking the near post for a 1-0 lead. Then Hull scored twice through Jimmy Bullard and Peter Crouch came on as a substitute to level. After that a loss in Scotland against Dundee was a shock but despite the loss, Spurs would have been confident of turning it round at White Hart Lane and they duly did with a dominant performance and first win of the season. Palacios, Modric and a superb Angel Di Maria got the goals to send them into the group stage. The first home match at White Hart Lane was a first league win too. Due to the UEFA Europa League Spurs have a few games in hand and at this early stage lie in 12th place.

Player of the Month - Wilson Palacios
Wilson won 3rd best player at the FIFA World Cup in the summer and now he has won the managers Player of the Month. The Honduran's game has been adapted slighty with the manager putting him on near post flick ons to help Seb Bassong attacking the near post and the change has worked really well. Palacios is also doing a very good job in midfield helping out anchor man Moussa Sissoko in his first few games. Wilson Palacios is the ball winning midfield which is defensive but he does have a good long range shot in his locker as well as being determined to win flick ons at corners.

SAUNT UNHAPPY AT FIXTURE LIST
Tottenham manager Chris Saunt has told BBC Sport that he is unhappy with the fixture list through September. Tottenham had 2 fixtures in August re-arranged for October/November due to the Europa League qualifing stage. Now in September there is an international break for 2 weeks before most Premier League sides get back to action on a saturday, a couple more games on sunday but Saunt's side play on monday against Sunderland which only leaves 2 days rest before playing Groningen in the Europa League. Tottenham then play on the tuesday after in the League Cup against Sunderland before playing Wigan in the EPL on monday, Yet again only giving 2 days rest before traveling to Leverkusen in the Europa League on thursday. Chris Saunt said "Its incredible how the FA can allow such short breaks before an English team plays in Europe. If we played on a saturday there would not be this issue or even playing on a sunday but monday night games...things get very difficult."

Tottenham have had an unbeaten September after Saunt's rant over the fixture list. Things didnt start very well with a home draw against Sunderland 0-0 but put it right against Groningen imphatically. Jermain Defoe scored twice before David Bentley added to the scoreline before half-time, Luka Modric was really creative in midfield and bagged a goal and so did Moussa Sissoko to open his scoring account for Spurs. Then the League Cup came around with another clean sheet and a win. Jermain Defoe scored again before Crouch doubled the lead coming on as a sub and Moussa Sissoko scored his 2nd goal in 2 games. Wigan away was the next test and Tottenham passed with flying colours. 2 Luka Modric goals and 1 from Defoe and Bassong insured a 2nd league win of the season. A difficult trip to Leverkusen didnt get off to a good start and Spurs went in at half time 2-0 down. Spurs really went for it in the second half and managed to level the game through Defoe and a penalty from Luka Modric.

Player of the Month - Luka Modric
Luka Modric played almost the hole of last season on the left hand side of midfield but a shake up in the system this year has really benefitted Luka by moving him into the center with an attacking role. The playmaker has been instrumental and its now going to be hard to change such a strong midfield with Di Maria, Palacios, Sissoko and Luka all on form. The only place up for grabs is on the right wing but David Bentley is playing determined to cement his place with Aaron Lennon being injured for a short time, Aaron will need to really impress should the chance arise.
