For Football Manager 2011

In previous editions, this thread, or as it was named then, "What Tactic should i use?", was heavily unbalanced regarding users asking for help and users actually helping out. This year, we hope that the forum will flourish with discussion threads as how to approach the game, how to play a certain player or how to best utilize the fact that one only have Strong but really slow attackers.

But before we all have played the game long enough to get to know the current match engine and have sen just how much - or little - that the tactics really matter - please use this thread to ask for hints about what tactic suit your specific team. As always, the more information you provide, the better help you will get.

The absolute minimum information needed for anyone to post is the following

- Team
- Players ( screenshot)
- Season ( the current or have you alreadygot to 2013? )

And remember, the more we all help out in this thread, the forum not only gets cleaner from constant new threads asking for help, but also we get the interest and discussion going. As soon as I see a interesting discussion going on in here, I will move those posts into a separate thread so the topic stays alive and can get more indepth.

Cheers

- Season 13/14

I have got some sweet transfers, kroos on a free, pastore for 10 million euros. I want a tactic where I can use as many offensive powers as possible, but still be solid at the back. I am a fan of the kind of soccer barca plays

How should I set my AML&R? I play with 4-2-3-1, 2 CMs. AMC plays as trequartista, first tried with advanced playmaker, but with trequartista he moves more, drops sometimes deep to get the ball and gets on average 20 passes more in a game. CMs are both deep lying playmaker, other is allowed to run from deep and roam, other keeps his position and makes more passes.

Now my other winger is very quick, fastest in my team, but not very convincing in other areas, is able to score and dribble also. Other is not so pacey, but with little better passing, decicions and creativity (not good still though) and good crossing.

I am willing to listen any kind of advice. My current players aren't limitation, I can buy new wingers if needed.

Hi everyone! I'm currently managing Blackburn (first season) and I need a good tactic. I haven't spent too much for new players. I've only bought Soulaymane Bamba from Hibernian, Nick Phinn from Dunfermline and Steve Finnan on free transfer.

I want to play 4-4-2, but I have a huge problem with my forwards (Kalinic, Benjani, Mame Diouf). They just miss a lot of opportunities 1vs1 with the keeper. Do I have a need for special FW training or my strikers are just not good enough to score a lot of goals. Any help and useful ideas would be appreciated. (Actually, I haven't been an active fm-player since FM 2008, so don't blame me for my ignorance at the moment).

Hello,
Im using Werder Bremen and they have a very tall side so I want to use that to my advantage, they also have flair wingers like Marin and Hunt. I was thinking a 4-5-1 - Counter attacking against stronger sides and using an Attacking approach for weaker sides.

Any thoughts?

Hello, im Liverpool and ive just started.
I'm looking for a tactic that will work with both Andy Carroll, Luis Suarez + gerrard still scoring goals.
I would like to play them as Targetman / Poacher with wingers, because i would love having many crosses to Andy Carroll.
Thing is, that if i move Gerrard down to CM i dont think he will score enough goals.
Maybe a tactic like the 4-4-2 diamond, with one offensive midfielder and one defensive would work?
Im afraid of it being not balanced, because its like sharing the team up in two by not having any CM.
I also love Raul meireles.. my mind is screwed, these were my thaughts..

Help me,

kind regards
nikoklink

Hi, I am struggling when playing away against weaker teams. I am using one formation with attacking strategy for my home matches and an counter strategy for my away matches. The counter tactic is very succesfull against stronger teams, but I am not creating enought chances against weaker teams and they use to have queit a lot CCC's.
I was thinking about using a control strategy against weaker teams but I am not sure if it would fit into my formation. Do you have any ideas how to tweak the counter tactic or set up a good control tactic for my team?

-The WB's use to cross oftern from deep
-CBL is set as ball playing stopper and CBR as central defender with a cover duty
-MCL is set as box to box midfielder, sometimes running with balls, through balls oftern, rarely crossing, normal mentality and much creative freedom. Works fine, supports the Striker and the AML when going forward a lot.
-MCR is a ball winning midfielder with defensive mentality, some creative freedom. no running with ball and no crossing, he is winning many tackles in the midfield and supports the right wing decently.
-AML and AMR are set as inside forwards with cutting inside, often through balls and rarely crossing
-STL is a deep lying forward with no runnning with ball and with often through balls.
-STR is set as a poacher, the main scorer in this tactic

Notes: I want to keep this formation, but get the best out of it for the away matches against weaker teams.

P.S.: Sory for my english;)

Thanks a lot.

What tactic would you suggest for an amateur team. More specifically I'm currently playing as Tre Fiori in the San Marinese League. Need a solid tactic which wont be too demanding for my players to deal with.

In these cases, you simply have to play to the strength of the team, keeping it simple for the players with really poor quality.

The formation would highly depend on the players you have at hand so there is no point of us suggesting a uploaded tactic if that formation does not suit your squad, like a narrow diamond if your only good players are wingers. But if this formation should suit your squad, then its a really good one to start with in the lower leagues, keeping it tight, playing simple

As for a approach, make sure you don't use too many runs form deep along with a high pressing game on the counter as this will be too demanding on the players.

Hi mates, think my question got lost on the bottom of the last page. Has anybody time to give an advice? Thx a lot.

need a tactic

I fast need a tactic (link to download it), because I`m going very bad with Standart (Belgium) and playing with friend (we play a lot), but this time my old tactic (for version 1.2 and for 1.3, but single only) isnt doing well, even I do not have a attack, so I change it few times, with new one (one of them I`m first in Premiership with Everton), but the same, just do not play well, don`t score, don`t have dangerous attacks... I download from here tactic from one boy who playes with Napoli, but no effects again.. in the begginin` win 3 matches with luck and the same stuff.. draw, lose, draw, lose... I download too one tactic version 4.. do not remember the name and the same... I have very good players like Paulo Henrique, Lucas, Casemiro, Dentinho from the Brazil youth squad, Biglia from Anderlech (we swap them with Defour because Steve is his favourite player), I have Carcela,Wixsel, Van Damme, Poccognoli from Standart who are good players and other I buy but there is no need to tell you all them.. Its a good team, when I play single I do not have lose, but now... they are awful, so please help me, no mather the tactic.. just want to have same fresh air because i`m 12 points away from Anderlech (my friend team). Thank You. /Sorry if I have mistakes/ Please give me a solid tactic to play total football (because with my old tactic I play great football, but now do not why they even do not have an attack..:X) Thank you again:))

This is the layout I currently use, I have noticed that my team plays some nice flowing attacking football, but I normally concede atleast 1 goal a game... normally from corners or get hit on the counter.

I was thinking that if I move my MCR to DMC it would stop the counter attacking threat, because I want the DMC to drop into CB when we are on the defensive, so it forms a solid back 3 like Barcelona do, because normally my Fullbacks are up the pitch on the wings looking for the overlap, which leaves me with 2 slow CB

Can anyone help?

If you put him to DM, set him to anchor man, passing short, creative freedom less and mentality defensive. That way he should stay at least near the CBs and make short simple passes. But with only 1 midfielder giving support in the middle may hurt your attacking, so I would keep him in MCR position and make him ball winning midfielder or deep lying playmaker with defend duty and defensive mentality.

I will give both a try and see which is most affective, alos I will play a friendly against Arsenal because they counter attack like crazy

Thanks :D

Then I tried playing the other way with a Deep Lying Playmaker, drew 2-2, Drogba got injured in the 22nd minute, had a goal disallowed in the 93rd minute which shouldnt of been :(

Well, it obviously takes time for these things to gel. You cannot expect them to be easy. A good ten to fifteen games and you should be seeing a difference.
