I didn't really have much of a choice really. The FM2+ mobo's have no upgrade path, and by the sounds of it the next gen of AMD CPU's will be out of my price range, and (at the time) I got lucky being able to get the I3, 650 watt PSU, 8 GB DDR4 RAM, Gigabye mobo (LG1151) for just under £225 total. For that price it was very hard to resist and it's been a great upgrade.

I'll keep buying the AMD GPU's though as they have better support for the future compared to NVidia, and can get some great value cards. Plus with better support for Vulkan and DX12 it's pretty much a no brainer.

Yeah the GPUs are pretty solid for what you pay. I am tempted to go for a new build next year but if I carry on the way I am going in not gaming i won't bother. Not sure where I found all the time before now. Literally had one civ sesh and one witcher 3 ps4 sesh in the last month

What I've gathered from reading multiple reviews about Civ 6, it's a better game than Civ 5 was on release but it needs patches and maybe a DLC or two to catch up to Civ 5's current state. It's basically the only strategy game I've ever played and liked, but right now it's way too expensive for me to consider buying it. I'm gonna let it get polished and drop in price before I buy it.

In the meantime, am I the only one hyped for Dishonored 2? Love me some stealth and godlike abilities.

Finally worked my way through Hearts of Stone on the Withcher 3 GOTY. What a good little expansion the main quest is. Did it in about 19 hours because of some exporing etc. Really nice change of pace from the main game alot more focus on story telling and some truly unique boss fights. Just started blood and wine now and had 3 boss battles within about ten minutes although currently stuck on the Shaelmar but ill beat him on my lazy monday off! What a game this truly is though! One of the best ever!

Day off today, so I fired up MAME and have been playing old Arcade machines that I used to spend a fortune in.
They are surprisingly easier with a 360 controller rather than a battered arcade joystick.

Salamander

R-Type

Ring King (for the giggles).

Double Dragon (because kneeing the head off somebody is still brilliant)

They should really make a streets of rage / double dragon / final fight type game again.

4 characters, 2d but HD graphics with multiplayer online co op

Yeah, that would be a great laugh.
The craic we used to have in the arcades in two player co op was brilliant.

I forgot about Streets of Rage. I'll have to get that one today. :)
Thanks for the reminder.

Finished Blood and Wine on the Witcher 3 finally, that game just cannot get any better its ridiculous. So much content in Blood and Wine its untrue could legit be the Witcher 4 ha, but seriously that expansion has more content than most games. Got post completion Blues now, may have to download Witcher 1 and 2 on steam and go through them.

I am so addicted to Final Fantasy 14 right now. Me and my fiancee are hooked playing it. Well worth playing if anyone wants to waste some of their life on an MMO.

Want a free game? And a rather snazzy racing game by the name of Dirt 3 Complete Edition at that? Head over to Humble Bundle-it's a limited time offer

Fair play :D
I always forget to check Humble Bundle for free stuff.
Thought I had Dirt 3 on one of the drives but couldn't find it, so I picked it up.

Always good for a bit of drunken sideways action with the wheel and pedals.
Thanks for the heads up.

Dishonoured 2 is so good but holy **** the performance is awful. With things like this and Bethesda's ****** policy on reviews, I can't believe they're surprised by piracy.

Yeah, I read that it's a terrible port and won't even run properly on gtx1080 systems.

I went and test HoI4 to see if patch 1.2 series brought any improvements to difficulty.

It didn't.

One of the major features of the patch was to add extra difficulty sliders for people who find the game far too easy. Previously there were normal difficulty levels for the player, Easy - Normal - Hard. Now there's those, and they also added sliders that allow you to give extra bonuses to AI, huge research bonuses, huge production bonuses, combat bonuses and so on.

So I figured, let's give this a shot. I went and started game on Hard as UK, and I also gave max possible bonuses to all Italy, Germany and Japan. This should have been the hardest, meanest difficulty Hearts of Iron 4 has to offer.

Well I've defeated Italy by 1939 and I have the Germans cockblocked in the Alps and in Belgium, and I've made a nice foothold in reconquering Poland with my marines. Ended the save last night when it was late 1940, rest of the game should be just waiting until Hitler attacks USSR and it will be over soon before even the US can join.

And the worst part is, this wasn't even hard to do. I mostly used the same tactics I use in normal games, I just had to micromanage combat more carefully.

I've not touched the game since I went global with Italy in 1.2, hoping this next patch really solves the difficulty issue. I need a good grand campaign were I get my **** handed to me. I mean as Italy there is no real reason to even join the axis as you can just invade Germany once they start the war with the Allies.

I have a feeling this is going to be like EU4, where the game only starts to become fun from 1.5 onwards. I dont regret buying it as I have had a alot of fun and over 100 hours in it as it stands. I've been reading the black ice team have put a mod out called AI 2.0 so I may gove that a try. It just gifts the AI free templates etc and other cheats but I really don't mind if it makes the game more fun and challenging.

Honestly at this point I am not sure if it will get much better with patches. Yeah they can improve the templates, or improve the AI, but have you seen those bonuses from sliders? I played on Hard and the difficulty sliders gave additional 25% to research, production speed, building speed and political power to all 3 Axis powers. Combat bonuses are also super powerful. All that should negate poor templates or poor AI, but it's still not enough evidently.

The real problem is tactical. Basic approach with most countries is looking for good opportunity to take out another major power quickly. Once you figured out how to do that, every game is the same, no matter the difficulty, patches, AI or division templates. You're still going to attack the Germans when they move to Maginot Line, or buttfuck Italy with naval invasions when their army is at the French border.

I think it can be saved but not without 2 things, Wiz would have to come off Stellaris team and they would have to decide whether they want a historical ww2 or a sandbox ww2 game. I think the game suffers from trying to be both. But we will see I'm enjoying Factorio, Rimworld and Victoria 2 to be bothered at this minute anyway also debating on picking up Tyranny also, don't suppose you havd yet?

Yeah, good point. That's exactly why it went wrong. If it's supposed to be historical WW2 simulator, then the focus should have been more on managing the industry, managing war logistics, like previous HOIs were. And if it's supposed to be a sandbox, then it needs to be **** of a lot more open. Random wars starting, unexpected superpowers forming in South America, colonies fighting for independence...

And haven't tried Tyranny yet, nope. From what I heard it was relatively new team of designers at Obsidian working on it, so I figured I'd wait for reviews and couple of patches. Plus they've done a lot of changes from Pillars of Eternity combat that I'm not sure about.
