I am starting to develop a taste in Rick Ross. My cousin introduced me to him and I am starting to like his music. Can't believe that I didn't know about him before.

I have listened to rap since 92-93 ish, the glory days. Real rap tho, none of the commercial RnB stuff thats flooding the charts. Here are a few classic LPs i would strongly recommend as an entry into the genre:

De La Soul Is Dead - De La Soul
Paid in Full - Eric B and Rakim
The Green CD - 3rd Bass
Funcrusher Plus - Company Flow
Enter the 36 Chambers - Wu Tang Clan
The Cold Vein - Cannibal Ox
Word Power 2 - Divine Styler
Nia - Balckalicious
Tricks of the Shade - The Goats
Criminal Minded - Boogie Down Productions
FBI - The Dayton Family
Straight outta Compton - NWA
Critical Beatdown - Ultramagnetic MCs
The Future is Now - Non Phixion
Capital Punishment - Big Punisher
Fantastic Damage - El-P
Run Come Save Me - Roots Manuva
It takes a nation of millions to hold us back - Public Enemy

Love my Hip-Hop!! I'm more into the underground stuff though...none of this lil wayne/flo rida/Will.I.Am **** you see on the tv nowadays!!!

I'll try and name a few rappers most probably wont of heard of....

Jedi Mind Tricks
Immortal Technique
Planet Asia
Lords of The Underground
R.A The Rugged Man
Common (his oldschool stuff is REALLY good)
Aesop Rock
Optimus Rhyme
Killah Priest
Naughty By Nature
Young Buck (his stuff without 50cent's influence is actually really good)
Necro
Akir
Brother Lynch Hung
Tha Mexakinz
The Lyricists
Beatnuts

I love these rappers but its really hard to find their CD's in the UK....thats where the internet comes in handy lol ;)

At last some underground!

Good list, but I'm growing tired of JMT's/AOTP's/BiggestWhiteysFromTheUnderground's stuff nowadays. And Vinnie is arguably my favorite rapper. The only ones who seem to keep on evolving are R.A., Ap and the Punchline King himself, Celph Titled. Louis Logic is also very good.

Can't stand Imtech, tries way too much. Diabolic is like his lost twin brother. Great list anyway, imo, nice to see DMX mentioned.

no Gangstarr? no Onyx? *abandon thread*

If you like rap, which I'm guessing you do if you're in this thread have a listen to this guy - If you don't know him, he's one of the best rappers on the UK scene by the name of Mic Righteous. This was performed on Charlie Sloth's show (BBC Radio 1 - Monday from 2-4AM)

Thoughts?

Mic Righteous,Lunar C and English Frank are my favourite British rappers at the minute!
