Impressive Wigan Form Continues

Manager Jordan Conroy has managed to extend Wigan's impressive form this season into December, only losing one game in the league. However a source of disappointment for Wigan would be the Capital One Cup quarter final defeat against Blackburn, as they would have expected to win that one. It would have set up a tough semi final against Tottenham but they may have had a chance over two legs. One area that Wigan have been excelling in this season is Europe as they managed to top their group, winning all their games without conceding a goal. Although they've been given a tough draw in the first knockout round as they have to play their first leg away to CSKA Moscow. It will be interesting to see if they can get through that and keep it their form up in January.

Disappointing result as I thought we could do well in the competition this season but we reached the board expectations so I'm not that fussed.

Wigan Hit Slump

Wigan Athletic have hit a poor run of form in the league in Januray, going four games without a win. Two draws at the start of the month and two losses after that doesn't make for happy reading for Wigan fans. One positive of the month is their progression in the F.A Cup because even if their league form suffers enough for them to drop out of European qualification places, they can qualify through the F.A Cup. Conroy did manage to save something from January at the end of the month by picking up two wins to give them some momentum going into February. It's important that Wigan start playing well in February as they have their Europa League games as well as some important league games.

Hull vs. Wigan

Transfers
We've had a lot of injuries this season and my two left backs plus Kyle Naughton were all injured at one point so I managed to bring in a replacement in Ricardo Rodriguez. We broke the transfer record bringing him in but he's a quality player and he's got plenty of years left. I also brought in a player for the future which I wasn't planning on doing. My scout came to me and said I should sign him and his value was about £400K so I thought that he would go for £2m+ like they always seem to so I didn't bother but I saw someone put a bid in for him so I looked how much it was for and it was for £8K as that was his release clause so I activated it and brought him in. I also got rid of Drenthe as I'm not using wingers this season and he moaned about being warned and then fined after getting two red cards.

Comfortable win but no less than expected.

Premier League
7/1/15

Wigan 1 vs. 1 Swansea
De Ceglie(81) Drenthe s/o(73)

Should have won the game, Drenthe getting sent off didn't help and we missed a penalty early on.

13/1/15
Wigan 1 vs. 1 Everton
Ramis(41)

Should have won again really but couldn't finish.

18/1/15
Arsenal 0 vs. 2 Wigan

Completely dominated in this game.

21/1/15
Wigan 2 vs. 3 Chelsea
Sulejmani(1) Ademilson(65)

We went 1-0 up then 2-1 up but couldn't hold the lead which is disappointing.

F.A Cup 4th Round
24/1/15

Hull 2 vs. 3 Wigan
Ademilson(2, 34) Sulejmani(25)

Wigan Triumph In Moscow!

Wigan Athletic have defied the odds and made it through the Europa League 1st Knockout round against CSKA Moscow. CSKA were expected to brush Wigan aside with ease as they have very little experience in European competition but they managed to win in Russia before closing the game out in England. Wigan seem to have recovered from their January slump as they won every game in February, including the 5th round of the F.A Cup putting them in the quarter finals. The only concern for Wigan fans and their manager will be that the amount of games will take a toll on the squad and they will be worried that they will start to lose momentum as the players tire.

Just managed to sneak it here but I think we deserved it.

Swansea 3 vs. 4 Wigan
Kone(10) Ademilson(45+1, 88) Wellington Nem(84)

In this game we went 1-0 up, 2-1 up, 4-2 up but couldn't defend well so it was a lot nervier than I hoped.

Wigan 3 vs. 0 Southampton

Routine win, dominated throughout.

CSKA Moscow 2 vs. 3 Wigan

Europa League 1st Knockout Round 2nd Leg
24/2/15

Wigan 2 vs. 1 CSKA Moscow

A good, solid win here. Going 1-0 up early on really helped and the goal at the end settled any nerves.

Romans Defeated!

The Europa League adventure continues for Wigan as they go through to the quarter finals after beating Roma on away goals. Wigan have exceeded all expectations by reaching this stage as many people thought they would struggle against CKSA Moscow. One thing Wigan will have to do as they progress through the competition is to balance the Europa League with the Premier League as they want to ensure they're in Europe again next season. However if they keep their form up in the F.A Cup then they won't need to worry about their league form. It will be an impressive feat for Wigan to win the F.A Cup but they've put out Man United in the 6th round. They do play Man City in the semi-finals which is the stage they got to last season but the Wigan fans will be hoping they can go one better but will acknowledge it will be tough.

Europa League Quarter Final Draw
Athletico Madrid vs. Wigan

Ademilson(73, 81)

Went one down in the first half but two late goals won it.

4/3/15
Wigan 1 vs. 2 Stoke
Taarabt(64)

We always seem to find Stoke difficult to play against and it was proved again here.

F.A Cup 6th Round
7/3/15

Wigan 2 vs. 1 Man United
Adryan(40) Ademilson(62)

Thrilled to bits with this result as I expected them to roll us over but we played really well and deserved to win.

Europa League 2nd Knockout Round 1st Leg
12/3/15

Roma 1 vs. 2 Wigan
Kone(31, 42)

A good win away from home which could have been a lot better but we missed a late penalty which would have all but seen us through.

Europa League 2nd Knockout Round 2nd Leg
17/3/15

Wigan 0 vs. 1 Roma

Just couldn't seem to score here and we scraped through but it was incredibly nervy at the end.

A bit of a shock result really as I expected a close game but we walked all over them.

Nice read shall be following. I'm from Wigan myself and which we hit those heights in real life haha.
I'm doing a Wigan myself, sitting pretty in 8th in the first season with 2 games to play.

Cheers mate :) And yeah it would be good if it happened lol. Awesome, can you recommend any signings you've made that have played really well?

Wigan Bow Out Of Europe But Reach F.A Cup Final

A mixed month to say the least for Wigan Athletic as they've had some extreme results, a European exit and progression to the F.A Cup final. The month started well for Wigan winning against QPR but drawing against Liverpool and then facing Athletico Madrid in the Europa League. They stormed into a 3-0 lead in the first 25 minutes but Athletico Madrid scored an away goal late on to give themselves a chance. That was followed by an amazing 3-1 win over Man City at Wembley to put them through to the cup final. Only a few days later they played the return leg of the Europa League and lost 3-1, eventually losing on penalties. Some topsy-turvy league results rounded off the month that Wigan fans will certainly remember for a long time.

F.A Cup Final Draw
Wigan vs. Tottenham

April

Premier League
1/4/15

Wigan 3 vs. 1 QPR
Taarabt(27) Kone(57, 78)

Routine win, shame about no clean sheet.

4/4/15
Wigan 1 vs. 1 Liverpool
Toure(29)

Shame we couldn't win this as we could use the points but a draw against Liverpool's pretty good.

Europa League Quarter Final 1st Leg
7/4/15

Wigan 3 vs. 1 Athletico Madrid
McCarthy(13, 17) Rodriguez(25)

An amazing win which I wasn't expecting at all but after going 3-0 up I'm annoyed we gave away an away goal.

F.A Cup Semi Final
11/4/15

Wigan 3 vs. 1 Man City
Admemilson(2) Anderson(25) McFadden(84)

HE SCORES WHEN HE WANTS, HE SCORES WHEN HE WAAAANTS, MARTIN MCFADDEN, HE SCORES WHEN HE WANTS! What a way to score your first goal for the club, after City got a goal back and looked like they were threatening. We're through to the final!

Europa League Quarter Final 2nd Leg
16/4/15

Athletico Madrid 3 vs. 1 Wigan
Ademilson(82)
(Wigan lose 8-7 on penalties)

Disappointed with this game as we had a strong lead from the first leg, we went 2-0 early in the second half and on the hour went 3-0 down. Ademilson got a goal back to keep us in it but we couldn't find another goal and lost on penalties.

Premier League
19/4/15

Wigan 2 vs. 0 Wolves
Carroll(59) Sulejmani(74)

A good way to bounce back after the Europa League disappointment.

22/4/15
Man City 7 vs. 0 Wigan

There is a reason why we lost so badly this game. The team was looking very tired and I had an important game against Newcastle afterwards and I thought the team could use a rest. I knew I wasn't going to win with my first team because they're so tired so I made a tactical decision and played my reserves. Only 1-0 down at half time but collapsed in the second half.

25/4/15
Newcastle 0 vs. 3 Wigan
Ademilson(4, 32) Kone(53)

It looks like my decision worked! A great win away from home.

29/4/15
Tottenham 2 vs. 1 Wigan
Anderson(80)

Not a good omen for the F.A Cup Final I'm afraid and I don't think we've beaten Tottenham since I've been in charge...
