CITY SIGN 3

Cardiff City have today announced the signing of three players, just a week before the end of the summer transfer window

The trio, believed to have cost less than £5m put together are, in keeping with Hawkins' philosophy and recruitment strategy, all quite young, with the oldest being 21 year old Welsh international George Williams

George Williams has joined the club from Championship Fulham for £1.7m. The winger has been brought in to put pressure on under-performing Danish winger Mikkel Duelund, 20.
View attachment 153387
Williams has been on Hawkins' shortlist for some time now, having been targeted in each transfer window since his fist in charge so Hawkins is delighted to have finally got his man

The second signing is that of Danish international, Soren Johansen, from Danish champions FC Midtjylland for a fee of £165,000
View attachment 153388
Hawkins has been tracking the midfielder since his loan stint at Brentford and, with his contract winding down, decided that now would be a good time to prise him away from the Danish champs

The third and final signing is the most expensive one, Polish wonderkid Daniel Zielinski has joined Cardiff on a 3 year deal, having joined from Polish side Lech Poznan for £2.5m
View attachment 153389
The midfielder, 16, rejected contract offers from Juventus and others before signing for Cardiff, proof that the Bluebirds are a club with great pulling power

BLUEBIRDS LOAN WICKHAM

View attachment 153368
Cardiff City have signed Crystal Palace striker Connor Wickham on loan until the end of the season

The former Sunderland striker, 24, has joined the Bluebirds to provide backup to James Wilson following a breakdown in talks with Watford's Odion Ighalo, who has now joined Olympique Lyonnais in France for £4m

Wickham, who has scored 40 goals in 213 appearances throughout his career, was once touted as the future of English football

Unfortunately for Wickham, his career has not gone as planned, and Cardiff are his fifth club since leaving Ipswich for Sunderland in 2011 for £8.25m

He hopes to feature regularly off the bench for Cardiff and help keep them in the Premier League

TRIO JOIN CITY

Cardiff City have today announced the arrivals of 3 youngsters for a combined fee of less than £600,000

Left winger Olger Gamboa and midfielders Fabrice Soumahoro and Steffen Hansen have joined Cardiff, each of them hailing from a different continent, so who are they?

View attachment 152658
Olger Gamboa is an 18 year old Costa Rican international, with 9 caps and 1 goal to his name already

The winger, who has joined from Costa Rican side Saprissa for £375,000, was spotted by Cardiff in 2016 and the deal was made back then, Gamboa, however, had to wait to join due to rules surrounding under-18s in Costa Rica
View attachment 152663
The pacey winger was known for his determination and team ethic in Costa Rica and Hawkins hopes it will translate onto the pitch in the Premier League, he has been sent on loan to Halmstads in Sweden in order to gain a work permit

View attachment 152659
The second player to join is 18 year old Ivorian Under-20 international midfielder, Fabrice Soumahoro

The Ivorian midfielder has joined Cardiff for £130,000 from Ivorian side ASEC Mimoas, for whom he averaged a 7.39 match rating over 34 games in his début season
View attachment 152662
Another determined player, Soumahoro combines his high natural fitness with a good first touch and vision to tear defences apart, he too will be sent to Halmstads

View attachment 152660
Last but certainly not least is Danish midfielder Steffen Hansen, who has joined the Bluebirds on a free transfer from Esbjerg

The tough tackling defensive midfielder, 20, will join a growing contingent of Danes at the Cardiff City Stadium, which is already home to Danish internationals Mikkel Duelund and Soren Johansen
View attachment 152661
Cardiff fans will hope that Hansen will make the same impact as his contrymen

One player leaving Cardiff City, however, is midfielder Yaser Kasim, who has joined Championship side Sheffield Wednesday for £2.5m

The 26 year old Iraq international, who joined Cardiff on a free from Swindon, made 30 appearances in the Bluebirds Championship-winning season and will be fondly remembered by City fans

JANUARY TRANSFERS
We've spent a bit this January, not a lot, but a bit on 4 players, here they are

TIN JEDVAJ
Signed from Bayer Leverkusen for £9m
View attachment 152280
22 year old Croatian international Tin Jedvaj joined us on deadline day on a cut price deal from Bayer Leverkusen following his transfer listing

Tin can play anywhere across the back line, wing back on both sides and in midfield, the perfect young utility player to help drive us forwars in the years to come

HARRISON REED
Signed from Southampton for £875,000
View attachment 152273
Harrison was out of favour at Southampton and joined us on another cut price deal, signing for less than £1m

He can play anywhere in the middle, be it attacking or defensive and can play on both wings, another utility player that will be great on the bench

YOON DAE-DONG
Signed from Suwon Samsung Bluewings for £950,000
View attachment 152272
We signed Yoon on the cheap as his contract was running out in a year

Bigger clubs than us were scouting the young Japanese midfielder so we had to strike to quickly in order to get his signature, this £950,000 could be the best I've spent in a few years time, after he gets his work permit of course

MARIO PASALIC

Signed from Chelsea on loan
View attachment 152271
There's a trend here, midfielders. We need top quality midfielders to back up Ralls, Johansen and Forshaw and we've signed them

Mario is another Croatian international and is only costing us £4,000 per week. Steal.

I've also terminated the loan contracts of James Wilson and Connor Wickham, combined the two were costing us £60,000 per week and they just weren't good enough for that money

2018 so far for Cardiff City in the League: 0 Wins, 5 Draws, 7 Losses, 5 Points
Our dreadful form has made us an outside bet for relegation, we can't go down, can we?

It looked like we would get our first win of 2018, four months and 12 games after it begun but no. Dimitri Payer scored a wonder goal to grab a point for the Hammers and keep their Champions League hopes alive, sound familiar? The wait for a win goes on

A game as dull as it was meaningless, Alex Neil's Liverpool side putting in the kind of performance that is pushing him nearer the sack each day whilst we, well...

WHAT A RESULT! We played surprisingly well at home to Arsenal, crafting 5 clear cut chances, it looked like it wasn't going to be our day as we squandered these chances but Spanish wizard Oliver popped up to grab us a point with his second goal of the season!

Very poor. We didn't turn up today and only registered 1 shot on target, pitiful compared to Chelsea's 10. We just couldn't touch them today

A surprisingly even game against Europe chasing Leicester. Unfortunately for us their quality shined through a fairly scrappy game, with Shinji Okazaki and Riyad Mahrez scoring two screamers

FINALLY! Our first win of 2018 is in the final game of the 2017/18 season and what a win it was. A fairly weak team was fielded by us, allowing fringe players George Williams, Declan John, Rhys Cook, Mark Harris and Harrison Reed their moment in the sun and boy did they make the most of it! Wonderkid (In my eyes) Dusan Perovic put us ahead early in the second half following some good pressure from us. Cardiff boy Mark Harris then scored the second, his first for his hometown club, set up by another Cardiff boy in Rhys Cook. Ben Gibson then wrapped it up with a header just over an hour in

END OF SEASON 17/18

A brilliant first half and a dreadful second half to our first season back in the Premier League since THAT season in red a few years back. We gained 32 points in our first 19 games and 10 in our last 19. Here's the 2 finishes we could have had...

1st Half Form: 4th/5th on 64 Points
2nd Half Form: 20th on 20 Points

Ridiculous.

View attachment 151787
As you can see, our form tailed off dramatically in the second half of the season, going from the European spots to lower mid-table in half a year, we also fared quite poorly in the cups

View attachment 151786
Chris Gunter won Player of the Season (For the 3rd year in a row), Soren Johansen won Young Player of the Season in his first season with us after joining from FC Midtjylland for £160,000. Tiago Ilori won Signing of the Season, despite this being his third continuous season at the club and Dusan Perovic won Goal of the Season with a wonder-goal against Liverpool

View attachment 151785
Dusan Perovic was the team's top scorer this season with 7 goals, Spanish attacking midfielder Oliver was the top assister with 7 assists, Chris Gunter had the highest Average Rating with 7.53, surprisingly high based on our season. He also had the most Man of the Match awards

MASS EXODUS IN CARDIFF

The past few days have seen a mass exodus of the old guard from the Cardiff City Stadium.

Five members of Cardiff's 2016/17 Championship winning squad have left the club for a combined fee of £7m

First to leave the club was attacking midfielder Nick Powell, who joined recently-relegated Derby County for £3m

The 24 year old midfielder joined Cardiff on a free transfer from Manchester United in 2016 and made 47 league appearances for the Bluebirds over 2 years, scoring three goals in the process

Second to leave was left-back Scott Malone, who joined another recently-relegated Midlands side for £3m

The 27 year old has re-joined Wolves, 6 years after leaving for £150,000. The Englishman made 128 league appearances over 4 years for Cardiff, for whom he has developed an affinity, he is also leaving manager Matthew Hawkins whom he has described as "one of the best in the business"

The third player sold was 32 year old Welsh international David Edwards, who has joined League 1 side Walsall for £125,000.

The attacking midfielder, capped 27 times by his country, made 22 league appearances for Cardiff, 21 of those in the Championship

The fourth player to leave Cardiff was winger Anthony Pilkington, who joined West Bromwich Albion for £400,00

The Irish international, who joined Cardiff from Norwich in 2014, made 97 league appearances for the Bluebirds, scoring 12 goals

The last player to leave the Bluebirds was 28 year old Welsh striker, Sam Vokes, who joined Italian Serie A side Bari for £1m

The Wales international made 60 league appearances for Cardiff after joining from Burnley in 2015 scored 25 goals for the Bluebirds over 3 seasons, with 23 of those coming in his first season
