Half way through my 1st season with Liverpool, I decided that Torres really needed some support as we weren't scoring enough goals. Had the best defence, but it was only really Torres and Gerrard scoring. I had got Benjani on loan and signed Henri Camara on a free (Liverpool, even when selling, in season 1 have very little money). Whilst they did ok, chipping in with assists and the odd goal here and there, it was nothing consistent.
January came and was leaving, when apparently I was interested in CHINEDU OBASI of Hoffenheim and Nigeria. I hadn't declared any interest in him, but was desperate by this point. I had an offer of £9.25m accepted and was thrilled to finally have a striker that could play with Torres.
That was until he actually played! After 2 games my backroom staff advised me that I give him a prolonged rest, then when he actually played whilst having pace to get past defenders, his finishing was Blue Square Premier standard.
He only made 9 starts in half a season, had an average rating of 6.75 and only scored one goal (which was a tap in and when he was playing as a winger, not as a striker!)
I was able to sell him the following summer to Barcelona for £9.25m, however 50% of that went to Hoffenheim and I am still going to be paying them 100k per month for the next 40 months!! Oh well, lesson learnt- and for the record, my transfer policy is not normally this bad!!!!
