W4nker and Xper, after so many seasons, do you not find that the AI has sussed your tactics out yet? I've been playing as Saint-Etienne and 4 games into the 3rd season but having been having success with a different tactics and im concerned my normal tactics haven't been as effective so im "considering my options".

Think i went 30+ games undefeated in the league and then lost a home match 1-0 when Zouma was a nub and got himself double yellowed /sigh.

I only picked up on this thread last night and haven't managed to get time to read through all the pages as yet and i noticed there are a few tweaks by W4nker and yourself xper. So i'll appologise for asking as no doubt these things been said tons of times already but...

(1) Which is the best versions for the current patch of fm2014 for Home and away?

(2) What mid game alterations do you make when (a) losing or (b) drawing and trying to win or (c) winning and looking to close the game down ?
(3) In your opinion, which players would be a better F9 or CF - Mattia Destro, Corentin Jean, Fabio Borini (currently used as AML/AMR) and Gabriel Barbosa.
AP - De Bruyne was 1st choice last season as AMC, Moi Gomez, Lucas Evangelista (presently retraining as AML) or Pierre-Emile Hjolberg (on loan from FC Bayern)
and BWM Gaston Gil Romero or Josuha Guilavogui?

1. Home Tweak and Away (post #1)
2. If you want to keep the score on Home match just change to away tac & if you are loosing away by 2 goals change to home tac
3.
Destro - CF very solid
Barbosa - CF young and very perspective (possible future star)
Borini - CF/F9 good but not great
De Bruyne - AP top class
Gaston Gil Romero - BWM very solid
Guilavogui - good I think but you can find better
about the rest cant say anything as I never watch them ...

I can recommend to you Aleksandar Mitrovic as CF, Jean-Marie Dongou as CF (after 2 seasons) & Carlos Fierro as F9 (after 2 seasons)
 
I think with my current budget ill have to make do with the 5 strikers i have at present tbh as Saint-Etienne arent a big money bags club in all honesty.

I generally play Borini as AMR/AML and hes pretty decent for bagging goals/assists but i also have Richairo Zivkovic sitting in the U19's who has 4.5 star PA and Barbosa has to finish a season long loan in Santos (only way i could get him for 1.4 mill unfortunatly :p). I've been pretty selective with who i have gone for so far and Destro has been top class as an AF in the 18 months i've had him.

In regards to the players you didnt know about, my 19 PA scout puts all these players at the following ratings -

Corentin Jean - CA 2 stars / PA 4 stars 2nd choice AF
Moi Gomez - CA 2.5 stars / PA -4.5 stars 2nd choice AP
Lucas Evangelista - CA 2 stars / PA 4.5 stars retraining from AMC to AML
Pierre-Emile Hjolberg CA 2/2.5 stars - PA 4.5 stars, plan to use him as AMC or CM + contract runs out in 12 months so can get for free in 6 months(Hopefully!).

I'll give this a few matches tomorrow and see how it plays for a few games and can let you know how i get on.

Do you recommend to use the home tactic against top clubs (ManU, ManCity, Chelsea, Arsenal,) if I'm Liverpool?

xPer, I would like to give you my gratitude because your tactic is by far the best tactic that I have ever tried. Throughout the season, the tactic remains strong unlike other tactics which usually went downhill halfway through the season. We did not win anything in the 1st season, did not even go that far in the cups (curse FA Cup draws that pick Tottenham and then Chelsea as our opponent in early stages), but we managed to get 3rd in the league, and at some point, despite the points differences, we almost overtake Chelsea as the leader, sitting in 2nd place consistently too but the horrendous results at home nearing the end of the season make that impossible and finally Arsenal managed to overtake us. The first time that I actually manage to enjoy playing FM14 a little bit. The best part is the partnership between Suarez and Sturridge is lethal like in real life. Sturridge scored 31 and Suarez scored 20 this season. I noticed whoever play the CF position will score more.. Lost 4-1 twice to Chelsea though. Ugh. Did not manage to win Chelsea even once at all

I started a new season with crewe using your tactic i like it very much best one i used so far
 
Gave your suggestions a go for my 1st game today. Was already 4 games into the season with a 2-1-1 (7-2) record. But thought i would try it the W4nker way and just play the home tweak and see how i get on.

Gave Borini a go as F9, Gil Romero as BWM (I'd noticed his performances werent exceptional enough of late and everywhere seems to suggest he develops better as a BWM so your comments were just the nail in the coffin regarding that).

1st game


At 3-0 i ended up having to drop deeper but rather than sit back, i thought i would be more aggressive and put my fastest CB from Defend to Covering and pushed my Dline further up the field. Got 2 more goals finishing up at 5-0 including a Borini Hat trick :o
 
Hi xper, im currently using ur homeTweak and away tactic with Newcastle. ive followed ur instructions from OP but im conceding from set plays corners and free kicks. so far ive played 7 conceding 8- All from set pieces.

any ideas? (playing with default squad with Danny Ings only transfer)
 
Xper, do play fm2014 all day lol?

well there is no simply way - this is Match Engine and that's the game, nothing really can do about it
all you can do is buy tall and strong central defenders with good heading & changing defense corners/FK settings
For me current settings are good but you can try other for example jassar settings from his thread.

think I was a little quick to ask for help xPer, gone the next 5 games without conceding. Really enjoying FM14 for the 1st time.

Can't wait! Do you think the current version can be use again on 2nd season though? Targeting to win the league this time.. also who do you recommend more to play the MR position, Massimo Bruno or Lucas Ocampos? Or maybe other players, who's not expensive..??

Out of the two you mentioned, I reckon Ocampos is better, simply due to his slightly superior physical ability, but Massimo isn't too far behind. Some of the other players i mention turn out to be just as good if not better too!

Of course you can play. Second season is always better then first one. Ocampos is playing on my Man Utd team on MR right position and hes great. I strongly reccomend to you also Antonio Candreva - hes cheap and great on right wing.

Some of the players you mentioned are not MR, I want at least "unconvincing" to retrain to MR. And most are too expensive :( But thanks anyway! :)

Antonio Candreva is almost twice the price of Ocampos, I can't afford him right now, so I'll go for Ocampos. Thanks a lot!
