1982 And All That

any chance you could make this for fm13 cos 14 sucks big time at the mo

Having thought about it some more, it should be possible. Although it would require a change of formation to 3-4-3, a very similar tactical ethos should be achievable in FM13. A flat back 3 all set to cover, a deep lying midfield with an anchor, a DLP with freedom to roam and wingbacks going loco down each side. A treq in the middle laying off balls for two narrow inside forwards to run on to. Similar team set up with some player instructions tweaks. Let me see what i can do (testing the 4-2-4 atm, so give me time )

And following the recent sad death of the incomparable Nilson Santos, undoubtedly the greatest left back of all time, the new 4-2-4 will aim (but probably fail) to mimic the style of Brazil's game changing 1958 World Cup winning side as tribute to the great man.

Going to give this a go with my Chelsea save, I'm sure this tactic can't be any worse than the one I created. First result was a 3-1 win over Spurs

Good luck with it. Chelsea have all the right players to make it work. Try Lampard in the Regista role, always thought he's be great there.

David Luiz is one of the best half-backs around but Terry will be too slow in defence. You'll need more pace at the back

As promised, here is the new 4-2-4 variant of the base 4-2-2-2 tactic (with apologies for how long it took to post up).

The basic principles are the same as the main tactic but this time the two attacking midfielders play as wide inside forwards and the Regista becomes the main link in midfield. To prevent the midfield being completely swamped, the CWBs are given rein to come inside and support the Regista.

Please note that this is still a work in progress. I'm undecided as to whether this system is better or to let the Inside Forwards sit narrower and let the CWBs provide the width. Feel free to test both ideas and let me know how it goes.

Also, remember that this tactic is a back up to the main tactic; a little tactical surprise to spring on unwary opponents. I haven't tested it uniquely over a season yet.

Every patch seems to randomly reset my players individual instructions. I just discovered that my RCWB is set to Hold Position! If you're using this tactic, I recommend you re-check everything. I was losing 1-0 to Villa on 75 minutes, reset all instructions to the correct setting and won 3-1 ;)

So, after a 3 game losing streak and the Villa win, I just downloaded and reapplied my own tactic and beat Swansea 5-2 away ;)

I love this tactic but it lacks defensively :(

It's defensively strong if you have the right players in the right positions. It's quite finely balanced defensively, so it won't work if you don't have the right guys in there and it's certainly not a plug and play tactic ;)

If anyone is still struggling with this tactic after the recent patches, I recently discovered that Brazil 1982 technically played with TWO Trequartistas (although they had slightly different roles), so switch the AM(s) to Treq and have fun - it's super attacking ;)

Coming soon (in a different thread probably) will be an attempt to recreatethe Ștefan Kov?cs Ajax side of 1973.

I've started a new save with this tactic to see if 14.3 has solved the issues that screwed it up last time. I mainly think that the problem was with the First Touch nerf that saw the midfielders giving the ball away too much and it seems to have been fixed in 14.3

I'll report back ;)

would love it if u could get this working, was best looking and playing tactic out there!! :D

Early report from pre-season matches - The poacher has scored 11 goals in 7 matches (and the point of this formation was to get the poacher into space) so that looks promising, albeit pre-season. The AM(s) has scored and av 7.79 over the same matches and he was the problem after the last patch. This is by no means a comprehensive report, naturally. I'll use the old 1.6 version until Christmas and then try tweaking if necessary.

Just for clarity, I'm using Forest again, but I used the pre-game editor to delete ALL the squad and let the game give me randoms, so I'm just testing the tactic, not the squad ;)
