Wouldnt have got 3rd if i hadnt bought big and a 4th place would have probably been my outcome but move up to second so no complaints

Well i said pass as we reached the quarter finals again with our back up players but still was dissapointing to go out to ross county

1st - Glenn Whelan - Only played 15 games but his influence was what took us to second so he is my star of the season
2nd - Ben Conrad - Got his chance to shine this season with all the sales we made and he firmly took it to establish his place in hte team after scoring 28 goals
3rd - Delac - The young goalkeeper despite having rubbish in his defence for most of the season kept the best defensive record in the leauge and earned a few man of the match awards too

Season overview
A very good step forward would be how i sum up this year second was unexpected mainly helped by rangers downfall and spending over £20m. The Europa leauge was a far greater success than i could have imagined although the draws were very kind to us this year and both cups didnt matter too muc as i was only focusing on hte big compitions but with a stronger and bigger squad next year we'll be after everything

Summer overview

With all the new players brought in during januarys window there was little work needed during the summer with most transfers just being youth players to develope with three exceptions. After delec joined the unhappy club i sold him for a measley £1.5m and replaced him with Scott Carson. Daniel Carvaliho wasnt performing well last season and he too was replced with Susaeta from athletico Madrid. And las tbut not least i decided despite having plenty of quality youth in back up that i'd add Barzola a regen i spotted at partazan who was rated slightly better than mobaki so that was the third and final first team player to provide plenty of compition
on the selling front a few first team squad players got the bullet. Torbinskiy, Goncalves, Roptan and Djebbour amoung the most recognisable with a few youth stars off to bigger and better things perhaps.

Targets
This year is the biggest season the club has had so far. We simply must succeed and hope that we can afford the squad we've now built which i estimate will make a loss of almost a million each month, thanks to the boards unwillingness to expand the stadium. so for that we must succeed on all fronts this year as well as bleeding through some youth players for selling off

I think overall our squad is now better than everyone except celtic who are only slightly better than us so we have to win the leauge to back up the ammount of money were spending and to get streight to the group stages of the champions leauge

We've always gone concervative in this cup and this year will be a little different as i will still play youths as much as i can but will also put in some of my better players when neccessary to ensure we dont loose

Europe - last 16
being very ambitious but if we can escape through the group phase, very unlikley, minimum i'll accept is the europa leauge where knockout phases is again the minimum target

1st - Rafael - Was the scorer of many important goal for me this season always poped up at the right time!
2nd - Whelan - Not as explosive as last term but he still set up plent and helper sun the middle of the park
3rd - Carson - Slotted into the team immediatly and was crucial against the bigger team kepping out spurs and villa with ease at the vital moments


New season new ambitions, well not really
After a season like that what is there to aim for? is it possible to keep the drive after winning so much so soon? Well yes for one reason mainly! Since january 2012 we have been spending well beyond our limit although the boards happy for us to do so if i hadnt started changing the sqaud a bit in 3 season we'd be broke so change has to happen!!

- over this summer and the next 2 summers there will firstly be a cutback in all players outside the first 11 wages, buying in less youths and spending less cash on them

- older/unhappy 1st teamers will be replaced by players coming through the youth team bringing down wages overall

- less u19's will be brough in and there will be very few coming in for over £1m unless there talent shows they could become amoung the very best

Aberdeen Fc are today delighted to have joined forces with our local paper the Evening Express to bring the highest quality service to its thread readers on Fm-Base. The deal is to remain in place during the entire tenure of Darran Donald where we are to get up close and personal with the manager and his thoughts every month and also at importaint points of the season. Also part of the deal is the announcment of Aberdeens new "season review evening", more news later in the season.

Celtic were the main team for spending in the spl this summer but rangers seem to have done the best piece of buisness with Peter Crouch single handedly taking them back to the title fight

An acceptable start to the leauge with only Rangers getting points off us in the three games. European Super Cup was a massive upset but not as big as the the bad start we've made in the scottish super cup

We've also had a terrible draw in the champions leauge which will make getting to the europa leauge an achievement unless we have 6 games like we did against chelsea

September month review
A month almost idential to last month, Destroyed a SPL team away, beat a european powerhouse and performed terrible in the Scottish super cup

The super cup continues to be beyond us and again this will probably be our biggest dissapointment of the season But we will just have to try again next season.

Guiuliano again scored, just after half time but ager abel hernandez equalised it looked like we were only geting a point from this game which would have still been more than welcome when Milos Lukovic scored what turned out to be the winner in the 91st minute

october month review
a month with little to talk about a fantastic result in palermo covers up a poor result afainst falkirk. a result against arsenal was a big ask so not dispondent about a defeat there and we we won all our leauge games falkirk aside

With almost 1/3 of the season compleated Darran Donald today had his first fans questions section with the evening express

Q - How do you feel the changes to the club have affected us this season and how are the
changes settling in
A - Im happy with how all the new players are doing in there rolls at pittodrie. I have also been very impressed with how Marius Perrersen has settled into the team so far being explosive for a 19 year old he's started well and it was always going to be hard to replace Marcio in the first 11.

Q - why are we achieving such impressive results in the champions leauge but such poor results in the super cup
A - I cant say for sure otherwise we'd still be in it but my two thought on it are such quality players find it hard to motivte themselfs to play in the most inferiror compition they have all season but when it comes to playing arsenal and seville and such like the mood lifts and everyone wants to do there best and show there abillitys. Another reason could be that in the champions leauge were more focused on defense as were playing against far stronger and dangerous players

Q - With the transfer window just two months away can you tell us of any plans you have for the squad
A - I have not even consideder the transfer window nor will i till much nearer the time. we have many importaint games in importaint compitions to think about changing the squad

Q - Could the settle squad you have this season be the reason you've had such a good start in europe

A - i think it has a big part to play along with the players having another season of experiance and developing together

Q - Finally can we get to the last 16 of the champions leauge?
A - Yes!! i think we've got ourselfs in a fantastic position to do so but we have to keep our focus and its imperative that we get a result against seville and palermo to make sure we make it

rested a few players and expected a tricky match but we ended up winning easily today with strikers hitting the net and other players in Rafaels case

at half time we were at a 2-0 disadvantage and were practically banking on getting results in the last two games but a rousing half time team talk insprired Conrad out to score a wondergoal from the restart. It would take another 40 minutes and change to score our winner from Lukovic again appearing to score a crucial european goal which throws the group wide open

another game where we calked into a 3-0 lead by half time thanks to Conrad again so a very youth based team for the second half with a big double header against celtic and then seville next week

that goal could prove to be invaluable as if we finish level with sevilla i think we finish abouve them as we have an away goal against them, but will go to palmero to try and get a win anyway

A big title match here rangers may be 12 points off top but with 4 games in hand they are right in the chase!

rangers were holding us to a 0-0 then in the last 10 minutes they went 4-2-4 to grab a winner but we took there empty midfield to pieces and struck two quickfire goals to go 2-0 ahead. There tactics did achieve a goal but too little too late and we got the 3 points

November month review
A mixed month lost our two most importaint games to seville and Celtic but getting a point against arsenal makes up for that and the celtic game was compinsated by beating rangers. Into december now so after the european run i will have a look at the squad and see where theres money to be made or lost

We got the victory that took us through to the last 16, Grat achievment. Was in charge of the game from the kick off and finally took the lead on the 37th minute through giuliano the second goal which made it safe came on the 64th minute from hte man of the season so far Conrad. Arsenal beat Seville to secure top spot but qualification is a major success whatever way you look at it!

In an exclusive interview with the Evening Express Darran confirmed he was delighted to have made it to the last 16 and thanked everyone involved with the club for getting this far. When asked how this ranked amoung his achievements he quoted as saying " The final step for the club is to get to the champions leauge final" as its the only major obstical to overcome.
