MAY

Getafe 1 (Juanfran 6)

Athletic Bilbao 1 (Susaeta 79)

OOOOOOOOO.... with Atletico Madrid and Real Sociedad to come I kinda hoped to win this but we were **** and naturally Real Madrid won so the lead is down to 3pts.

--

Atletico Madrid 2 (Chamakh 16, Arda Turan 38)
Athletic Bilbao 1 (Barandiaran 74)

Our shocking first half performance cost us here while Herrera is out for 3 months now and Laporte got sent-off late on. Real Madrid are now top after they beat Sporting Gijon 3-1.

I CANT BELIEVE WE ARE GOING TO THROW AWAY THIS!!!!!

--

Athletic Bilbao 3 (De Marcos 16, 44, Muniain 50)
Real Sociedad 0

Derby day joy for us but Real Madrid beat Atletico Madrid 3-1..........

There is hope however as they finish the season against Barcelona.

--
Athletic Bilbao v Sporting Gijon

&
Real Madrid v Barcelona

22min - Real 1-0 Barca - Cristiano Ronaldo
44min - Bilbao 1-0 Gijon - Muniain

HT

83min - Real 1-1 Barca - Lewandowski
84min - Real 2-1 Barca - Neymar
86min - Real 2-2 Barca - Iniesta

SUMMARY

What an end to the season with the title going right down to the wire and we are indebted to Barcelona for staging their comeback - they also beat Real Madrid to win the Copa del Rey too!!

I honestly thought we had blown it after the Atletico Madrid game. I figured we would lose there but after drawing against Getafe the game before I thought we were doomed but fate was on our side.

END OF SEASON POST

3 seasons in and 3 league titles won and 5 trophies in all so that is not too bad at all. Funnily enough in all my previous Bilbao saves I have always won the Champions League by the 3rd season so I am slipping up big time here! lol

Once again regarding the squad it was all about player development and with so many youngsters getting game time they all improved especially Barandiaran, Espericueta, Oscar, Villanueva and Marc. Obviously I am indebted to my goal scoring centre-back extraordinaire Aymeric Laporte too.

8 players are already coming in in the summer but none for the first team as yet so unless Javi Martinez, Llorente, Griezmann, Pardo or Inigo Martinez pop up in my player search screen it could well be a quiet summer in Bilbao.

Missing
- Lionel Messi, Lucas Ocampos, Gino Peruzzi, Guillermo Burdisso, Alejandro Gomez, Patricio Rodriguez, Eduardo Salvio, Matias Silvestre

--

SUMMARY

Obviously missing Lionel Messi is a huge blow and considering Ocampos (RW) and Peruzzi (RB) are also first choice players so I am not at full strength going into the side. Mascherano has been playing CB for me but I am considering moving him into CM.

My group opponents are Japan U23, Peru and Paraguay

Having the same problem as you with my Shakhtar save trying to only sign Ukrainians, Yarmelenko, Bezus, Garmash and Selezynov dont want to know at the moment so got money burning a hole in my pocket!

ARGENTINA

Group C

Japan U23 1 (Ogura 71)
Argentina 2 (Pastore 34, Aguero 85)

Lineup
- Romero, Zabaleta, Otamendi, Mascherano (Munoz), Rojo, Yacob*, Pizarro, Di Maria, Pastore, Tevez, Aguero

I expected a much, much, much bigger winning margin than that! Pastore scored his first goal for Argentina here but also picked up a knock.

Peru 1-1 Paraguay

--

Argentina 2 (Tevez 26, Aguero 65)

Peru 1 (Chavez 90)

Lineup - Romero, Zabaleta, Otamendi, Mascherano, Rojo, Faurlin, Pizarro, Di Maria, Gaitan, Tevez, Aguero (Higuain)

This qualifies us as group winners but we should have scored 6 or 7 such was our dominance.

Paraguay 1-1 Japan U23

--

Argentina 5 (Aguero 7, 55, 81pen, 88, Lavezzi 47)
Paraguay 0

Lineup - Romero, Zabaleta, Garay, Munoz (Lopez), Ansaldi, Yacob, Perez, Lavezzi, Di Maria, Tevez (Godoy), Aguero*

I rested some players that were on a yellow and on borderline fitness so to win 5-0 was a shock. Aguero was outstanding.

Japan U23 1-3 Peru

Semi Finals

Argentina 3 (Di Maria 2, Garay 13, 21)

Colombia 1 (Moreno 62)

Lineup - Romero, Zabaleta, Garay*, Mascherano (Munoz), Ansaldi, Faurlin, Pizarro, Lavezzi, Di Maria, Tevez (Godoy), Aguero (Higuain)

We lew them away in the first half to book our final slot.
Brazil 5-2 Ecuador

Final

Argentina 2 (Garay 22, Aguero 55pen)
Brazil 0

Argentina
- Romero, Zabaleta, Otamendi, Garay*, Ansaldi, Yacob (Faurlin), Pizarro, Lavezzi, Di Maria, Tevez (Godoy), Aguero (Higuain)

Brazil - Jefferson, Danilo, Dede, Thiago Silva, Marcos Rocha, Lucas, Ramires (Paulinho) (Hernanes), Fernandinho, Sandro, Oscar (Lucas Moura), Pato

GET IN!!!! To be fair I expected a stronger Brazil side with maybe Neymar and Hulk in it but we were missing players as well so to win and keep a clean sheet is great. My 2 best players in the tournament scored the goals also!!!!

Ooft! What a end to the season! Title decided in the last 4 minutes. Lucky to say the least that Real played Barcelona on the last day huh!

PRE-SEASON

So as expected most of my transfer business was done in the pre-arranged deals but I did bring in one player for the first team. My summer was occupied with Argentina in the Copa America so it was well planned. Fernando Llorente wants to come back but I refuse to spend £30m on a 30y/o striker.

--

PLAYERS IN

Only 2 for the first team squad and one was on a free transfer for my backup keeper - Roberto Santamaria. I did however make one big signing in the shape of Antoine Griezmann. He came in from Real Sociedad for £18m (£7m short of his release clause) - I didnt really need him but the money was burning a whole in my pocket and he will make my side stronger which is the main thing I suppose.
View attachment 370191View attachment 370192

To strengthen the B side I paid Real Zaragoza £2.5m to bring back Juan Manuel Martin to the club. He was playing first team football in the top division last season so he should take the lower league by storm. Pardo came in for £950K and Olabe was a free and got chucked into the C team lol
View attachment 370193View attachment 370194View attachment 370195

Finally for the U19 side I paid a total of £3.5m for these guys

PLAYERS OUT

Nobody really - Inigo Perez left on a free and thats it.

--

SUMMARY

So there I was after signing Griezmann pondering where to play him - (If I played him LW and moved Muniain that would mean either RDG or Barandiaran would miss out and if I put him in at AMC that would mean RDG would miss out again) when Muniain broke his leg in a pre-season friendly and is out injured for 6 months so problem solved!!!

Obviously I am gutted to be losing Muniain for so long but when he returns I will be able to judge who to leave out on form I suppose.

Thats the only change. I always try and promote a player into the senior squad every year but with no departures I couldnt really do that this season however to make my B team stronger and to push for promotion to the Liga Adelante I have given them some great talent from the youth team including Alegre, Roca, Blanco and Quintilla.

AUGUST

Athletic Bilbao 3 (De Marcos 31, San Jose 53pen, Marc 90)

An easy opening day win and a derby win at that too.

--

Spanish Super Cup 1st Leg

Barcelona 3 (Lewandowski 24, 64, Sanchez 45)
Athletic Bilbao 2 (Laporte 17, 90)

A good game which we were unlucky to lose however we do have 2 away goals.

Athletic Bilbao 2 (Barandiaran 40, Laporte 43)

We had 2 shots on target and scored 2 goals - not bad. Monreal got sent-off too.

Athletic Bilbao 2 (Susaeta 64, Barandiaran 84)
Barcelona 0
(Athletic Bilbao win 4-3 on aggregate)

The trophy is ours as we absolutely battered Barcelona here. Trophy number 6 with Bilbao.

We were very impressive here but should have scored in the 2nd half too.

SUMMARY

A great start to the season as we claim back the Spanish Super Cup and have a 100% start to the league campaign. Add to that that Barcelona and Real Madrid have slipped up already means that it was nearly the perfect month.

In the Champions League we have been drawn alongside Arsenal, Celtic and Sparta Prague.
View attachment 370240

Regarding the transfer window Real Madrid brought in El Shaarawy for £33m, Nastasic for £16.5m and Sigurdsson for £12.25m. Valencia brought in John Obi Mikel for £10m and Robinho on a free while Atletico Madrid signed Coquelin for £10m. Barcelona were very quiet.

Leaving the country was Isco, Milanov, Nuri Sahin and Jonathan dos Santos.

HERRERA LEAVES ARGENTINA TO TAKE OVER BRAZIL

Why not? lol. I cant really do anything else with Argentina and to take over Brazil who I feel are much stronger and to learn Portuguese is too good a chance to miss. I will try and give them a head start in qualifying for the World Cup before possibly moving back to Europe after Euro 2016.

Congrats on the 3 league titles in a row! Champions League doesn't look far out of your reach :)

Restarted a Bilbao save a few days ago because my old one corrupted, in November and I've had RDG out with a torn hamstring, then just before he got Ander Herrera broke his arm :\

SEPTEMBER

Valencia 3 (Victor Ruiz 52, Gameiro 57, Feghouli 90)
Athletic Bilbao 3 (Ruiz de Galarreta 25, Barandiaran 54, 85)

Gutting to throw away 2pts so late on but it is still a decent point.

--

UEFA Champions League Group A
Athletic Bilbao 4 (Barasoain 20, 33, Ibai Gomez 49, Espericueta 73)
Sparta Prague 0

A good win from the backups. Barasoain is the pick of my young AMC's but I have several other great prospects in that position.

--

Athletic Bilbao 4 (Ruiz de Galarreta 24, San Jose 58, Villanueva 76, 89)
Espanyol 0

Espanyol had an early goal disallowed and that seemed to wake us up as we won comfortably.

--

Real Betis 1 (Paulao 32)
Athletic Bilbao 2 (Barandiaran 52, Ruiz de Galarreta 64)

This time the opposition had a goal disallowed to make it 2-2.

Arsenal 0
Athletic Bilbao 0

Happy with this result. Arsenal have signed the likes of A.Ayew, Cisse, Martins Indi, Corchia, Hoilett and Altidore.

SUMMARY

A decent month even though we drew twice but we end the month top of both the league and Champions League. Not much else to say really. Regarding my B side they have made a decent start to the season.

As for Brazil I added Kaka and Ronaldinho to the coaching staff.

Lineup - Rafael (Muriel), Danilo (Rafael), Dede, Doria*, Marcelo, Sandro, Lucas Levia (Romulo), Lucas Moura, Bernard (Douglas Costa), Neymar, Leandro Damiao (Pato)

A nice easy win to get me off to a good start. Obviously the first Rafael is the goalkeeper and the 2nd one is the right back currently at Real Madrid (Man Utd in real life).

OCTOBER

Atletico Madrid 1 (Falcao 46)
Athletic Bilbao 2 (Griezmann 27, Laporte 51)

A fantastic victory which sees Griezmann score his first goal for us.

Athletic Bilbao 3 (Barandiaran 34, Ruiz de Galarreta 70, Laporte 86)
Villarreal 0

We had over 30 shots on goal here so probably should have scored more.

Athletic Bilbao 4 (San Jose 8pen, Ruiz de Galarreta 17, Herrera 28, Barandiaran 59)

Mallorca 0

Another brilliant performance from the lads - we are thrashing teams at the moment and this without Griezmann and Muniain!

--

Copa del Rey 4th Round 1st Leg

Celta Vigo (Villanueva og49)
Athletic Bilbao (Marc 36, Lopez 79)

A trickier draw than I would have liked but I still started with 8 teenagers in my lineup.

Granada 0
Athletic Bilbao 2 (De Marcos 2, 28)

The disallowed goal worked in our favour again here as they had one chalked off while we were 1-0 up.

SUMMARY

Well its safe to say this month couldnt have gone any better as we were superb. My squad was rotated quite a lot too as we played weaker sides and Griezmann got injured for about 2 months!!!!

Thinking about the future I have pretty much got a squad that in time will dominate in Europe as well even without Javi and Inigo Martinez but of course if they became available I would pounce!!!

I just noticed that there is another Copa America in the summer so I am going to try and win it in successive seasons with 2 different nations lol

SUMMARY

Last month was great but this month was even better as we scored a shed load and put in some outstanding performances - even when I played my youngsters.

What was also scary was the fact that my left sided centre half scored in every game and I swear on my daughters life that I dont use a corner glitch. I have found if you have really tall CBs with high heading attributes and an exceptional set piece taker you are guaranteed goals.
