CHAMPIONS LEAGUE

Cleverley injured on international duty, out for 2-3 weeks with groin strain.

Mertesacker injured for 3-4 weeks.

Bellerin out for 5-7 days.

Coquelin again unhappy with the lack of first team football.

PREMIER LEAGUE

View attachment 281675We gain a fantastic three points from Manchester United. This is probably my trickiest run of fixtures approaching, Man United at home, Chelsea at home, Spurs away and Liverpool at home interspersed with Villa away, Ludogorets away and a Capital One Cup Quarter Final against my bogey team West Brom, so a much needed win to start the run.

Ramsey out for 2-3 weeks as is Cleverley.

I am going to post the next four matches in a post of their own as they could be very interesting. I play Man City in the league, MK Dons in the FA cup and two further matches against Manchester City.

If anybody else decides to do a save using the rules I set out at the start of this story let me know how it goes, or if you have a story of your own using the rules point me in the right direction. I am curious to follow any other successes or fails.

So, I thought the run of matches we had a little earlier in the season was one of the nastiest fixture groupings I have had on Football Manager. To play United, Chelsea, Spurs, Liverpool in the space of six matches was unfortunate but we came through with out any real losses, points wise or personnel wise (obviously we will have that selection of fixtures reversed towards the end of the season as well Yey!). The next four games will either see us still in with a shout on all fronts or see us plunge out of a competition or two and possibly damage our confidence and set up a disappointing second half of the season.

Premier League - Man City (a)
Capital One Cup Semi Final 1st Leg - Man City (h)

PREMIER LEAGUE

View attachment 281303Sanchez conceded a penalty late in the first half, but a shift in formation and the desire of the players saw Sanchez atone for his error and we earn a point.

Mertesacker injured for 2-3 weeks

CAPITAL ONE CUP Semi Final 1st Leg

View attachment 281302Man City started to chase the game a little in the final moments and we capitalised as patience paid off. Two goals in the last few minutes see us run out winners in the first leg, yes Man City have an away goal but a two goal cushion has to count for something.

Chambers unhappy with the lack of first team football, I promise to include him but he has to perform. I have a squad of players where everyone is performing so fitting everybody in is very difficult.

FA CUP FOURTH ROUND

View attachment 281299Was genuinely concerned about this match, this was the first time this season we had played competition from outside the Premier League and with the second leg of City in three days I felt it was a good time to rest the first team and play some of the younger players and hope their desire to play more would win this match. They did not disappoint.

Serge Gnabry is out for upto 11 days, these little niggly injuries are increasing in number.

Would you believe it, the Fifth round draw of the FA Cup happened and it is fitting considering this post that we are drawn against Man City at the Emirates for our fifth meeting of the season.

CAPITAL ONE CUP SEMI FINAL 2nd Leg

This can only be described as an efficient performance. A 3-3 draw sees us win 6-4 on aggregate and progress to the final to meet Southampton, the last team to beat us.

The league table looks as follows:

View attachment 281294
Despite some massive results we are joint first with Chelsea and Liverpool although we have two matches in hand on Liverpool. Our goal difference is the only thing pushing Chelsea into 2nd, we need them to drop some points.

Fantastic end to last season, well done. Not too bad a start this year, too. Keep it up.

Did anybody notable come through the youth ranks last season? I seem to get at least one potentially world class every season.

I have not promoted anybody of major note, everybody in my first team squad has been mentioned, I don't dip into my youth or reserves throughout the season. I did realise I never posted a squad list at the start of the second season, will do that next.

Bellerin was the young player of last season, he pretty much forced Debuchy out of the club with his performances, Maitland-Niles and Akpom look like good backup players but jury is still out on everybody else.

So here is my squad list for this season, I made no additions or sold no players in January so this has been the same for the season.

Goalkeepers: Szczesny and Ospina

Defenders: Koscielny, Mertesacker, Gabriel Paulista, Chambers, Bellerin, Gibbs - Joined first team squad this season: Vallejo, Jenkinson and Digne

Midfielders: Coquelin, Arteta, Bielik, Ramsey, Maitland-Niles, Cazorla, Oxlade-Chamberlain, Gnabry, Wilshere, Ozil - Joined first team squad this season: Cook, Cleverley and Crowley

Attackers: Sanchez, Walcott, Giroud, Welbeck and Akpom - Joined first team squad this season: Lingard.

I am adding another rule which I have not considered before. If I sell anybody off the reserves or under 18s the funds can be added to my bankroll, I cannot however add a player to the first team squad without first getting rid of somebody on the above squad list.

Players still to hit the ten match safety mark this season are: Crowley (6), Vallejo (5), Bielik (5), Cleverley (6), Gibbs (7) and Maitland-Niles (5). I will try and get everybody over the 10 match mark but as was seen last season, the team comes first and I would rather win matches than make unnecessary changes to accomodate everybody.

I will endeavour to post some more later this morning, but would like to call a press conference if anybody has any questions in the mean time, feel free to ask them.

Coquelin out for 5-6 days.

So the question has to be............

Do I agree to be the French National Team Manager as well as Arsenal Manager?

I wouldn't in your position - in my Arsenal save, I was head-hunted by England: took the job, immediately regretted it as it was too much work switching back and forth, keeping an eye on players etc.

Doing well to keep with your transfer policy, it's inspired me to start a new Arsenal save and do a similar sort of thing.
