Arsenal vs Barcelona

the ref seemed to do what the arsenal players told him for the last half hour...

sorry, never a penalty, fabregas got his leg caught in between puyols legs when drawing back to shoot and he's made the most of it. Typical Arsenal.

What a shame Fabregas won't play in the second leg and Arsenal won't be able to score at the Nou Camp.

typical arsenal diving? im pretty sure if it was liverpool you would have said penalty every fan woukd, i think some is just bitter about how there team has done this season

100% pen typical jealous liverpool fan enjoy your bakewell tart cup tommrow!

great game barca pure class were we lucky to get back in to it ? no as scott says about manu its not luck its team sprit to drive forward well done arsenal for not dropping your heads. 2-2 better than losing 2-1 in the 93rd i supposeXD

gripping game!! it lived up to the hype. :D the return leg is going to be legendary. I thought the penalty was soft but hey, even Arsenal deserve a bit of luck. Messi clearly didn't get the memo, he thought they'd be playing Xerez. lol

Wasn't a pen i don't think. But i can understand why the ref gave it, looked like a pen when i saw it live. Well played Arsenal, gives them a decent chance in the second leg. Walcott was the difference again and Barca were **** scared of his pace.
Also, huge respect to Fabregas for playing on despite being injured just shows the passion of the man. Although i hope it aggrivates his injury even further so it dents Arsenal's title challenge ;)

Although some say Messi didn't show his quality tonight, I would argue that due to Messi's position as Best player in the World at the moment meant that every time he touched the ball, he would become sorrounded by three or more Arsenal players, this was actually a good thing because it provided space for other Barca players to use. I thought Almunia was brilliant today, especially for the Xavi save, lots of keepers would of bottled it on that.

.. I think I'm the only person in the world, who nearly fell asleep watching this game.

I've totally lost interest in football :(

song was the best player on the park.He had a great game

Are you dizzy? Sure, he was one of the few Arsenal players willing to 'thug' about a bit, but he's also the one who was marking Ibra when he scored both of Barcelona's goals.

He was good at closing down, but over the course of the game I'd say he was average.

Regarding the result, I didn't see Arsenal coming back after Barca went 2 goals to the good, so well played for that. Though in all honesty, it should have been over in the first half.

Well, I'll analyse this from an Arsenal Perspective.

Almunia - Had a really good game, great character to come back from Saturday, and showed why some are tipping him for england.

Sagna/Eboue - The latter seemed to get better as the game went on, Sagna looked quite comfortable at right back, will be interesting to see if he was injured.

Clichy - Had great energy throughout, he really looks back to his best. He has some lapses of concentration, which if he can remove, he will be the best Left Back in a few years.

Vermaelen - Quiet game, good interceptions, and his great heading. Could say he was at fault for the second.

Gallas - Actually looked shaky, we looked more secure when Song slotted into Centre back.

Song - Wow, proved what I've been saying for weeks, quite simply world-class, whether at Centre Half or Holding-Mid, he is immense, strong, great tackles, and even showed a few good passes tonight.

Denilson - Arsenal's best second half performer, was great. Distribution is immaculate, and he really does make Arsenal tick.

Cesc - Clearly not 100%, but showed some drive in the second half.

Nasri - Played ok, showed glimpses of his class, but couldn't get enough of the ball.

Arsh - Not much to comment on.

Bendtner - Pretty much won most headers, good touches. Not enough support and not enough of the ball.

Walcott - Need I add anything? Great pace and dribbling.

If I get time, match analysis up later.

i thought messi played well myself. tbh i think manu are still in a better position than us to go through even though we didn`t lose barca are a much better team than munich and were away but fingers crossed come next week we could be through and manu out that would make my year.

The penalty shouldn't have been awarded there at the end. Fabregas pulled his foot back into Puyol while trying to shoot, Puyol never moved towards him. And it was a bit of a dive too imo. A great game, and the last 15mins shows that if a team manages to get Barca on the back foot they can cause real problems. Can't wait for the second leg :)

awsum match
walcott was great

song was the best player on the park.He had a great game

got to say song was a beast but it was his fault through for both goals although barca created good chances in the first half both goals were long balls to imbra which song should have cleared!

no sorry i think your wrong puyol clearly took his leg away when the ball came in dening him a clear goal scoring chance hense the red card.

This result amazed me considering the situation at 60 minutes, to be honest I thought it would end up around 3/4-0 but I gladly stand corrected. The first half was absolutely abysmal and I can't believe that Almunia displayed such great goalkeeping ability to answer his critics from the Birmingham fiasco - myself included. He was clearly the man of the match today, followed closely by Walcott. The man may have been on the pitch just the half hour, but after that substitution dare I say we were dominating the game (With Barca completely raping as beforehand).

Diaby had a very poor game, he was the only one I can single out as practically everything he touched turned to ****, his control was poor and most of his dribbling was of similar mould, I thought his physical prescence would be a boost for this game, not a hinderance. I celebrated so much when the penalty was scored and am delighted that they showed such great character coming back into the game - it also pleases me that Puyol and Pique are banned for the 2nd leg (Though unfortunately we did have setbacks of our own).

Barca were incredible at pressing our players for the first 60 minutes of the game, there seemed to be 2 people on every Arsenal man who touched the ball, though they didn't seem to manage this later in the game - does this suggest that La Liga isn't as much about endurance as the Premier League? Perhaps.

To sum up, we were incredibly lucky to end up with the draw and I hope we can contine how we played in the last 20 minutes at the Nou Camp. Come on you Gunners!

Ali on the ropes taking a beating and then comes the sucker punch.

Story of the night tonight. Barca cannot keep that pressing up for 90 minutes but any team which puts Arsenal under that much pressure gets results (Liverpool have done it often enough - and when the legs fade, Arsenal look a different team as they get the room they need). Barca are the epitomy of control football - and as their goals showed - it's a means to an end not the end in itself. You need to mix it up a bit to get the results.

Credit to Arsenal for not folding and coming back into the game. Was definitely a penalty - although Fabregas did make the most of it, it was a clear goalscoring chance and so a sending off too.

Really enjoyed the match, but was surprised at how tactically inflexible Wenger was when Barca were dominating (ie 80% of the match). Might have been because it was so many of the Arsenal players were clearly not match fit (three or four looked out of it)? Still credit it where it's due, although the second leg is going to be very tough for Arsenal.

I thought Aresnal didn't have a terrible game, just that Barcalona had a really good one, Song played really well but probably was at fault for the two goals, I thought Eboue and Walcott looked as dangerous as Messi and Alves when they played together. Speaking of Messi, Aresnal did something right as he was very peripheral for most of the game, might be a different story infront of his own fans though, we'll see I suppose. Still a jolly good match and I regret having rubbish internet and not Sky so I won't be watching the next leg.

It was also interesting that Walcott had such a massive effect on the game almost as soon as he came on, whether this was partly helped by Barca tiring after ~70mins of intense pressing or not. It'll be interesting to see whether he starts at the Nou Camp, his pace would really test the nerve of Gaurdiola as Barca's ridiculously high defensive line could be very costly with the extreme pace of Walcott coupled with Barca missing their 2 starting centre backs and that might really swing the game in the favour of Aresnal.
