FEBRUARY

Bilbao lose to Barcelona but end the month 10pts clear!
Bilbao to face Las Palmas in Spanish Cup final
Bilbao Ath. side and u19s storming towards their titles

Not been at our best this month but we are doing the job. Comfortably through to the Spanish Cup final to face Las Palmas (surely going to keep our 100% record in finals against there!!!). We did lose to Barcelona but then they and Real Madrid slipped up when we won so the title is firmly within reach! Not fancying our chances in Europe though - Man City are overdue a win against us!

Copa del Rey SF 2nd Leg
Athletic Bilbao 3-0 Atletico Madrid
Susaeta, Muniain, Garcia (pen)

Athletic Bilbao 2-1 Las Palmas
Muniain, Aitor Herrera

Barcelona 2-0 Athletic Bilbao

(We HUMPED Barca lol)

MARCH

Bilbao crash out of Europe
Barcelona and Real Madrid both beaten
Were 11 clear now back to 10pt lead - 17pts clear of Real Madrid

Overall a very good month I suppose but we did have 2 very disappointing league results and Man City got a modicum of revenge by knocking us out of Europe. Mustnt grumble though! This years youth intake had a few good players but none with Aitor Herrera's abilities!

Real Valladolid 1-1 Athletic Bilbao
Javi Martinez

UEFA Champions League 1st Round 2nd Leg
Manchester City 2-1 Athletic Bilbao
Llorente

Mallorca 0-1 Athletic Bilbao
Ekiza

Athletic Bilbao 2-0 Barcelona
San Jose, Muniain

Athletic Bilbao 2-1 Real Madrid
Llorente, Aitor Herrera

Gutting about the Champions League. Still looking good in the league though. Has to be your year!

If it isnt I will throw my laptop in the bin! The goals are drying up a bit which is a slight worry but surely I aint gonna throw this lead away! (having said that being a Newcastle fan I know only to well that you can!)

APRIL

Bilbao win the Copa del Rey again
Stumbling along to the finish line as we have an injury ravaged squad
U19 side win the league and Bilbao Ath. will be in the promotion play offs
Liverpool to play Lyon in Champions League final

I have never had an injury crisis like this before. 9 players all at the same time with 7 of them being defenders! In the cup final my back line was Saborit (3rd choice), Javi Martinez (6th as CB), Ramalho (7th) and Alonso (2nd) as well as being without Aitor Herrera! San Jose is out for 6 months so will miss the European Championships.

In fairness though our defensive record for the month was amazing! So many clean sheets which were required as the goals arent going in so regularly. 1pt away from the title with Espanyol (h) and Valencia (a) left to play.

Villarreal 0-2 Athletic Bilbao
Aitor Herrera, Muniain

Athletic Bilbao 0-0 Real Sociedad

Athletic Bilbao 2-1 Sevilla
Amorebieta, Vadillo

Atletico Madrid 0-0 Athletic Bilbao

Osasuna 0-1 Athletic Bilbao
Llorente

Copa del Rey Final
Athletic Bilbao 2-0 Las Palmas
Barbosa (og), De Marcos

Sporting Gijon 2-4 Athletic Bilbao
Javi Martinez, Llorente, Aitor Herrera, Susaeta

Cant believe they let him go so cheap!

Blimey he's great in your game. I hope he turns out like that in mine. Hopefully better with the tuition and first team experience so young.

Do you reckon he kept the match ball? Haha well done on basically winning the title btw ;) 1 more point

That's one bad day at the office. Lol. Any ideas who to sign in January for my story? Can ya have a read and give me some tips as your five years ahead of me. lol

MAY - END OF SEASON
(up to pre Euro Championship friendlies)

Bilbao secure league title
Mallorca, Getafe and Rayo go down
Almeria, Sevilla and Sporting Gijon sack their managers
Lyon beat Liverpool on penalties in Champions League final

Well we finally did it! Before kick off against Espanyol Barcelona drew so I played some younger players in the final 2 games. Hopefully the B team ca navigate its way through the promotion play-offs and get promotion too.

Overall it was a great season with the only disappointment being our European campaign but we have over achieved on that front in the past so I can put up with it! lol. Might have a bit of work to do in pre season though as one or two may have to leave as there are a few players on decent wages not getting enough games and/or blocking some promising youngsters getting through (Amorebieta, Benat and Moises probably). Also Llorente is now 31 and is beginning to dip also.

Athletic Bilbao 2-2 Espanyol
Sanz, Susaeta

Valencia 2-3 Athletic Bilbao
Aitor Herrera 2(1pen), Javi Martinez

Fernando Llorente (Athletic Bilbao)
Bojan (Barcelona)

Players that narrowly miss out:
Mikel San Jose, Jose Enrique, Borja Ekiza, Inigo Martinez, Jose Carlos Sanz, Alvaro Vadillo, Victor Valdes, David Silva and Koke

Judging by the age of several of the Spanish players this will be the last tournament for Iker Casillas and Jose Reina probably while Torres, Iniesta and Llorente might just have 1 more left in them.

FRIENDLIES

Sweden 0-4 Spain
Aitor Herrera 2, Pedro 2

Spain 3-1 Croatia
Muniain, Torres 2

Norway 1-4 Spain
Muniain, Fabregas, Llorente, Iniesta

3 very good and very comfortable victories with the only downside being Sergio Ramos getting sent off in the last minute of the last friendly. Aitor Herrera scored twice and got 6 assists in the 3 games!

Hello mate can post a ss of Jose Angel? Congrats on title. You've done a great job. I'll post up transfers later.

Comfortably through to the second round. 3 convincing victories and was even able to rest some players for the last group game. Have been drawn against Slovakia (again!) in the next round.
