Traore joined Fiorentina on loan, Carr left for Blackburn (£500k), Scott Dann joined Villarreal (£3.5m) and promising youngster Ntambwe was snapped up by Man Utd, the 16 year old Belgian was poached from the youth academy, it will cost United £1.6m but could raise to £4.1m. Gohouri joined from Wigan £525k, Verratti also joined for £500k and Shelvey signed for £1.9m. Man Utd drawn in FA Cup 3rd Rnd, Chelsea will be the opposition in the League Cup Final. New tactics are being created and is looking good for the future next season will be a lot different and maybe even Europe could be in the picture if Cup success where to happen but i cant see past Chelsea.

Birmingham went to Wembley looking for there first League Cup win since 1963, Chelsea looking for their 5th tittle. The game kicked off with 90,000 watching, the first bit of action was when Kolarov hacked down Larsson just outside the box on the 5th minute , the free kick that followed was wasted by Rat. Gohouri made a goal line clearance from an Anelka header 2 minutes later. 17 minutes gone a Larsson pile driver was saved by Cech but the ball fell to the feet of Adriano, Fellow Brazilian Alex launched himself at the ball before Adriano could get a shot away. The resulting counter spearheaded by American Donovan lead to a Chelsea goal with Anelka playing in Malouda who placed it past Hart.
malouda-goal.jpg

35th minute a Verkhovtsev header went glancing over the bar. Birmingham hit back through Adriano with a stunning 25 yard drive that flew into the top corner bringing Birmingham back in the game. Just before halftime Essien played in Donovan who was left one on one with Hart, Hart stood up tall and saved the rebound fell to Deco his shot was saved as Hart showed his quality.

Second half saw Milevskyi come on for Djalo. Straight from the off Chelsea attacked, Anelka hitting the side netting after 30 seconds. Donovan forced Hart to make another world class save seconds later. A Rat corner on the 51st minute was meet by the head of Verkhovtsev, his header went flying towards goal but the Belarus international saw his shot cannon of the crossbar. Toloi picked up a knock on the 57th minute. A minute later Gunnarsson slotted in Milevskyi who had to score, Cech had other idea rushing out and pushing the ball wide of the goal.

Adriano was forced of by injury on the 77th minute with no strikers left on the bench Driver was given the nod. Last 10 minutes were a nervy time for both teams with both giving it their all. On the 89th minute we saw a winner a Bosingwa cross was parried by Hart the rebound was pounced on by Essien to see Chelsea lift the Cup. The goal was surrounded by controversy as claims of handball and offside were made by the Birmingham players. Chelsea win the League Cup for the 5th time.

(Home) Everton 1-1 : An Everton counter left the Birmingham defense wide open Yakubu had plently of time to place the ball past Hart to take the lead. Goal from Benitez.

(Home) Portsmouth 2-1 : Milevskyi grabbed a late winner to gain the 3 points. Annan and Adriano injured which will see them miss the last game of the season. Goals from Djalo and Milevskyi.

(Home) Stoke 3-0 : A few player were given a chance to show their worth in this game. A perfect way to end the season with this 3-0 victory. Parnaby scored and unlucky wonder goal. Goals from Benitez, Parnaby and Djalo.

Review

After a shaky start Birmingham finished strong leaving them in 11th place, looking back on results a few games that should of been won or drawn plus if Adriano had been there for the whole season it my have seen Birmingham push for an Europa League spot. The Cup runs were the highlights of the season although the both ended in loss The Blues fans can be proud of their team. Getting to the 5th round in the FA Cup and narrowly lossing to Chelsea in the League Cup Final. Players such as Djalo and Gunnarsson played above my expectations but Benitez was largely disappointing. Gunnarsson ended the year winning Young Player of the Year and Casey was a shock 3rd in Manager of the Year, a great result for the rookie manager. Bowyer is set to join Bayern for £1.6 million. Credit must be given to Adriano for his goal return after joining in January, his goals were vital in the regaining of form after a poor Christmas period scoring 17 goals in 20 games. If Casey can strengthen the defence and the midfield slightly you may see them pushing for Europe next season. Hart will be sorely missed next season with Man City looking to keep their man after an impressive season at St.Andrews.

The most shocking signing has been Witsel who looked uninterested in moving to St.Andrews but Casey convinced his man to join for £6.75m, but fans have hit out saying he will be a waste of money yet Casey remains confident he will be a big hit.
