Chelsea sell Lockwood to Citizens, Ivo leaves on loan

England international centre-back Wayne Lockwood (28) has been allowed to leave Chelsea and join Manchester City. The transfer will cost the Citizens £7.75m. Wayne arrived to Chelsea in the summer of 2026 from Arsenal in a £10.75m deal and was a regular in the previous campaign. He has only made three starts this season though and manager Marcelino let him go in order to get first team football. With plenty of cover at this position the board is unlikely to seek a replacement for Wayne at this stage.

In the meantime 22 year old striker Ivo is set for his fifth straight season out on loan after a move to Vitória Guimarães SC has been sanctioned by the board.

Flamboyant Villa leaves Liverpool for Oxford

Flamboyant midfielder Miguel Villa (30) has signed a contract with Oxford United. Liverpool will receive £550k for the player who has little future at the club.

This was the fourth season for Villa at Liverpool but after summer arrivals he only managed four games in it. Miguel has always been a backup player at Anfield and recorded 77 games (38 from the bench) with 13 goals and 15 assists.

Boccaccini nets heroic winner to sink Magpies!!!
............................................................................................................

............................................................................................................

In a game to tell our grandchildren about Blackburn inflicted first defeat of the season to the dominating force in English football over the past two decades Newcastle. Rovers came close to an upset several days ago but left the Magpies off the hook in the first leg of the Capital One Cup semi final. There was no mercy in the league clash today though!

View attachment 356892
Rovers return from the dead to win title clash

It was a perfect start for us with Josué grabbing the opener just two minutes into the game. The Magpies put us on the back foot ever since but were unable to break us down until the half time whistle. They kept coming after the break and Neil Lennon's defensive approach made the stands nervous. It was evident we couldn't count to win the game without a second goal. When Newcastle winger Escudero equalized we feared the worst. Escudero clinched what seemed a winning goal in the 82nd minute and the Magpies were celebrating. Too early! Aguilar was quick to put us back on equal terms and there was still time for Boccaccini to net the winner in a last gasp attack which completed one of the most memorable victories Blackburn have enjoyed over their rivals. The Newcastle defense had only leaked five goals in the league prior to this clash which comes to underline how special this evening was for us!

On the right path now

This win couldn't have come at a better time. Newcastle were looking to extend their perfect record and three points today would have allowed them to move top with two games in hand, the title within sight. Although we have now proven we are more than a match for our glorious rivals and have our own credentials to claim the title. It is far from over and the Magpies still hold an advantage but momentum is on our side now. Can we make it count? Judging on what I saw today - yes!

Chelsea look like Europa League contenders at best. Why?

The season is now midway. It is as good time as any to look at each team and draw conclusions - why they are where they are, are they on path to realize their ambitions and if not are there reasonable facts to suggest they could improve in the spring. None of the answers to these questions will appeal to Chelsea fans.

View attachment 356897
Goalkeeper the only position Chelsea could improve

The Blues sit sixth in the league table - behind all other title contenders. This on its own is not the end of the world but what is worse is they look like League Europa contenders at best. The latest game against relegation favourites Crewe Alexandra does little to disperse such claims - it was won but neither the score nor the display suggested genuine title or even top four quality. With the winter transfer window now open the usual question has come up on the agenda: could a couple fresh signings change that? Again, there is no reason to believe spending will provide the answer. The club has spent big in the summer to make sure manager Marcelino has top quality squad at his disposal. The team has extraordinary depth as well so it could be more likely to see some faces moved on rather than the opposite. The only position Chelsea could improve would be goalkeeper but top quality keepers are rare to come by.

View attachment 356898
Perhaps persistence is the answer

The psychological factor has been the major reason behind Chelsea's failure so far. And yet the individuals within the squad are generally very determined personalities which suggests there is no simple answer on that, either. It shouldn't be underestimated some of the other contenders have performed above expectations and the common luck factor has stubbornly turned its back on the Blues. In the end if you are doing the right things and they don't deliver the expected return, sometimes it's better to lay low, aim high and persist with the same approach.

Dong Dexin prevents Leeds upset for the Magpies

It is incredible how you could start the season with a 18 game winning streak and face losing the title favourite tag just two games later. It only proves we live in the most competitive era the Premier League has ever seen. Indeed a second straight loss for us against Leeds this weekend would have put Blackburn in the driving seat for the title. And that is exactly what was on the cards in the second half despite the lads passed them off the park...

View attachment 356968
Leazes End inspired turnaround

We had the lead with a late goal in the first period before Leeds capitalized on a six minute lapse early after the break and went ahead. Memories of our loss at the hands of Blackburn after leading in the score returned and concerned ripples on the stands urged the players to attack. It was a different day though and to their credit the lads gave everything to make sure we don't drop points again. Three goals in the final fifteen minutes of the game gave the score a much more comfortable outlook which I think we deserved.

Chinese Magpie terrifying PL defenders

The stand alone player was undoubtedly Chinese striker Dong Dexin. He bagged a hat-trick and has been our most productive player in the league with 21 goals from just 17 games. His decision to retire from international football a year ago in order to concentrate on club career is now paying back and the Newcastle legend is set to grab the Premier League top goalscorer award this season - along with another winner's medal, I hope.

Red Devils clinch North-West derby win with a little help from the referee

Gary Neville

You will not hear me say this often but I believe we deserved to lose. Even the most hardcore of fans will find any rational arguments in favour of the opposite. Liverpool were by far the better side and if it wasn't for the referee's wrong judgment to award us a penalty we wouldn't have had a single shot on target. That said it was a massive, massive win and I'm not complaining!

Liverpool cannot believe referee decision

The focal point of the game was in the 72nd minute. On one of our rare counters a Liverpool defender lunged on a spectacularly poor tackle and brought down Martin Callaghan on the edge of the box. It was undoubtedly a foul and Martin was unable to continue the game. Although it was also undoubtedly outside the penalty area and the home fans were understandably angry when referee Gardner pointed the spot. Even our players couldn't believe the decision while Liverpool players surrounded Gardner and his assistant. There was no coming back though and Martyn Flint calmly converted it to score what proved the winning goal with our single shot on target.

Anfield in disbelief at loss

This victory cements us in the top four and could be decisive in the latter stages of the season. Further good news followed after the game. Initial fears that Callaghan would need lengthly treatment have been allayed by Sir Alex who expects the striker to be back in contention for the next league game.

DoF Brehme recruits Swedish teen for Magpies development team

Newcastle have made their second signing in the winter transfer window. Director of Football Andeas Brehme has secured the signature of promising defender Otto Thulin (15) from Malmö for £775k deal.

Manager Dimiter Hristov has praised Brehme for identifying and convincing the impressive youngster to join the Magpies. Hristov is impressed with Thulin's versatility - the Swede can play on the left flank as well as his usual centre-back position. It is yet unclear whether he will be going out on loan to get first team football under the belt or stay with the youth setup until the end of the season so that the coaches can have a better look at him.

Leeds United: Ahn Jung-Ho walks in Hall of fame with 5 goals against Villa - Matteo
View attachment 357032

by Dominic Matteo
A big result is always on the cards when you meet the weakest team in the league. Our clash with Aston Villa was no exception. The Villains are certainly headed for the Championship with six points from 23 games and offered little challenge. It was a game of records to break and we nailed one down. Summer acquisition Ahn Jung-Ho earned his place in Leeds hall of fame beating the previous best achievement for most goals in a single game - held by Kaká who scored four in a home game against Everton.

View attachment 357035
Kaká's record bites the dust

Ahn Jung-Ho managed five - and could have had two or three more. So often did he find himself in a shooting position. Ten times, to be precise. The South Korean had completed a hat-trick as early as the twentieth minute, one of them from the spot. Another penalty let him add a fourth before half time. The team was inevitably playing for him in the second period in an attempt to make history - and that task was achieved in the 68th when Ahn Jung-Ho completed the final score. The South Korean has turned in a fan favourite and rightly so with 15 goals from 17 league appearances (25 from 29 games overall). He is still six goals away from the leading league goalscorer although there is plenty of time to catch up.

Recharged with the right spices

On a more serious note this win keeps us above Chelsea and Liverpool and even allows us to look at Manchester United's third place. It has shaken off the pressure after the disappointing loss to Newcastle and recharges the dressing room with some positive mood for the next games.

Defense looking tired - Liverpool losing pace

The new 2028 hasn't been generous for Liverpool so far. The shock loss to rivals Manchester United at Anfield has affected the lads and they dropped more points away to Queens Park Rangers this weekend. This slide must be arrested before it turns in a full blown crisis and destroys our season.

View attachment 357041
Centre-backs instrumental

There have been worrying signs with our defense. Both Schmidt and Travieso have been a pale shadow of their usual selves in recent games. It is their first season in the Premier League and the hectic winter schedule has taken its toll on their fitness. Both central defenders need a rest although Míchel has little options to make that happen. The only player capable of deputizing in that position is Michael Stevens and he is instrumental for the team in his usual defensive midfielder role. The manager needs to find an answer to that though as with barely the eight best attack in the league we are reliant on our defense to produce results.

Míchel has hard question to answer

We are now seven points away from top four. It is still doable although the time for mistakes is running out.
