Arsenal have needed a top-class forward ever since Robin van Persie left the club and none of those brought in to replace the Dutchman truly filled the void. This will not be the case with the latest recruit - the Gunners have opened the summer window with the breathtaking capture of one Edinson Cavani (28) from AS Monaco for just 27.0 million pounds! The clinical striker simply has it all - pace, passing, technique and most of all lethal touch. He works tirelessly for the team, constantly moves off the ball - throw in tremendous leadership qualities and you will know Arsene Wenger has someone who can rally the troops for years to come!

Cavani lights up the Emirates

The Uruguay international has represented his country 69 times, scoring 22 goals. Even though Cavani started his European career at Palermo and impressed by bagging 34 goals in 109 games, his breakthrough was with Napoli - 78 goals in 104 games! That was followed up by peculiar career choices to move to France but Edinson didn't lose his killer touch during his spell with Paris Saint-Germain - 35 goals in 50 games, nor the season he spent with AS Monaco - 24 goals in 42 games. You can add up the numbers for yourself!

Edinson Cavani transfer verdict: 20/10 - the player Arsenal have waited for for many, many years!

Ah, ******* awful. I really enjoy this story.

Oh, I don't give up that easily, man! There's no replacing me without a fight ;) It would have been much more difficult had we failed to win the Premier League though!

inspirational work as ever Kevin. Great to see this story take off Well done mate

Another midfield leaves Newcastle - first team shakeup or sellout?!

The strange days in the North East are set to continue with Newcastle announcing the sale of Vurnon Anita (26) to A.C. Milan for 33.0 million pounds. This is the second defensive midfielder to leave Saint James' Park this summer - which leaves Sissoko, Cabaye and possibly Januzaj as the only senior players able to fill in the two central midfield slots in Hristov's formation.

View attachment 415139
Anita in Italy switch

Vurnon is a full Dutch international with 14 caps to his name. He had a difficult start to his career at Tyneside but became a key part of the team since Hristov arrived and is yet another hard worker to leave. The manager remained upbeat despite this questionable sale:

Reporter: Mr. Hristov, some defended the Tiote sale as good business because of the player's advancing age. The same could not apply for Anita who still had his best years ahead and many believe he hasn't even fulfilled his true potential yet. Why was he sold?
Dimiter Hristov: Let me clarify Tiote didn't leave because he couldn't progress any further. It was a strategic choice of pursuing another direction with our central midfield, and Vurnon had to go for the same reason. Damien Comolli and I discussed this at length and agreed that if we had waited any longer, we'd be facing a major overhaul next summer. This is a delicate area to work on and we picked to push reshaping it forward now to avoid the risks of building an entirely new engine in a single window.
Reporter: You are saying this is a strategic overhaul but the incoming players are still not here. Will you say anything to calm fears the new owner doesn't trust you to make high-profile signings?
Dimiter Hristov: I already said I wouldn't comment on the owner's intentions before our internal discussions have come to a conclusion. My persona isn't important here, rest assured - this football club will buy the type of players matching its massive stature. I have no doubt about it!

It is certain Newcastle will move forward one way or another and Tiote and Anita will be replaced but if those deals drag over a long period of time they will obstruct summer preparation and begin to affect the first team.

Vurnon Anita transfer verdict: 5.0/10 - this deal would have received a higher rating if it wasn't for the lack of replacement yet - and let's face it, commanding a big fee is nice but Newcastle is now a club that needs to spend big to stay in the loop rather than sell well.

This is without a shadow of a doubt the biggest transfer window Newcastle have had for at least a decade and we will keep a tracker on how the transfer budget is spent. The transfer fee received for Vurnon Anita has been added to the pot:

Newcastle transfer budget: 90.54 million pounds (32.54 million initial)

David Moyes sanctions 5-man clear-out at Old Trafford!

Gary Neville

Published at 7:55AM, June 15 2015

The Red Devils didn't fare well last season. Expectations of a title-winning return to follow-up the Champions League trophy from David Moyes' debut season were crushed and the fans had to settle with FA Cup and Community Shield double and sweat until the last day before a top four finish was barely confirmed. Such shortcoming cannot go unpunished and the manager has prompted a clear-out in a bid to shake up the first team. The first to leave Manchester United is promising midfielder Nick Powell (21) who was allowed to turn his Europa League winning loan spell with Swansea into a permanent deal in exchange of a 7.5 million pounds fee. Powell played 41 games for the Swans, scoring 4 goals and creating 8 more.

Manchester United have also sanctioned a 3.9 million pounds deal taking Danny Welbeck (24) to Everton. The England international was largely an impact sub during Moyes' first season but only scored four goals and never came in play in the previous campaign.

Welbeck packs up for Goodison

The third one to leave Manchester United is overhyped central midfielder Tom Cleverley (25) who impressed high-flying Southampton enough for the Saints to cough up 8.0 million pounds for his services. Tom simply failed to live up to the high standards required at Old Trafford and 31 appearances over the past two seasons produced just two goals and four assists - something that cannot be tolerated even for a bit-part player.

Cleverley becomes a Saint

Manchester United have also opted to part company with the lesser half of the Brazil twin duo - Fabio (25), who has also joined Swansea for 5.0 million pounds. Fabio was a regular during Moyes' reign but his pace and versatility were not enough to convince the manager he deserves to stay.

The final player to depart from Manchester United is backup goalkeeper Anders Lindegaard (31) who has opted to try and claim a starting place with West Ham. The Hammers have agreed to pay 640k pounds for the shot-stopper.

Nick Powell transfer verdict
: 4.5/10 - the young midfielder can't compete for first team football at Old Trafford yet, but has showed enough promise to suggest another season-long loan would have been a better choice than the permanent deal.

Danny Welbeck transfer verdict: 6.0/10 - the striker isn't good enough and the decision to let him go was justified.

Tom Cleverley transfer verdict: 6.5/10 - good fee for a player who failed to handle life at a big club.

Fabio transfer verdict: 5.0/10 - it wasn't necessarily a bad deal but Fabio had some very good games last season and could have been given a chance for another year.

Anders Lindegaard transfer verdict: 5.5/10 - backup keepers always deserve to be released if given the chance of first team football elsewhere.

Third Magpie sold for big money - conspiracy theories hit the social media

Something is definitely cooking at Newcastle with the club officially confirming strong center back Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa (26) has left the club. The sale is irritating on its own although it is the destination that causes major upset - the Frenchman will be joining title rivals Tottenham for a massive 38.0 million pounds fee. The fans were never going to accept this kind of activity and reaction hit the fan immediately, social media erupting with various hard-boiled comments and heated debates. Attention has quickly shifted from the manager's uncertain future to conspiracy theories suggesting the takeover could turn out to be much different than what was officially announced. Multiple fans questioned how Olivier Bernard could have possibly raised the cash to buy the club in the first place and guessed he could have hit the club with massive loans forcing some of the first team players to be sold to cover the losses.

View attachment 415111
Yanga-Mbiwa heads for White Hart Lane

Mapou - full French international with 17 caps to his name, was a big player at the heart of defense and key part of the two-times running champion team. Manager Dimiter Hristov laughed off conspiracy theories but admitted the club has to buy now:

Reporter: Mr. Hristov, the fans were never going to be happy with this type of transfer, have you seen what they say in the social media?
Dimiter Hristov: Yes, I try to stay in touch with what our fans think or feel and I am aware it's pretty heated on the internet. Of course, it is nowhere near the truth, those theories of gigantic loans forcing us to sell, but you can't be upset with how the fans feel - they say it all because they care.
Reporter: We take it there is big money to spend and this is yet another shake-up transfer but don't you think these "trying to avoid major overhaul in a single window" deals are becoming a major overhaul of their own already?
Dimiter Hristov: If we keep doing them, yes, it would contradict what I previously said. But you won't be hearing me backtracking either - the outgoing business is done for the time being, Olivier and I need to sit down soon and agree whether I am his man or not because the next deal this club has to conclude has to be a player coming in.

The message is loud and clear - time for conspiracy theories and doubts is over - it's time for answers!

Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa transfer verdict: 7.5/10 - while it hurts to lose a big player to a direct competitor, this kind of money should allow the Magpies to replace Mapou with someone bigger and better!

This is without a shadow of a doubt the biggest transfer window Newcastle have had for at least a decade and we will keep a tracker on how the transfer budget is spent. The transfer fee received for Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa has been added to the pot:

Mourinho raids former club and sanctions four departures

Tony Cascarino Commentary
Last updated at 10:15AM, June 17 2015

Chelsea have opened summer business in a spectacular fashion by concluding no less than five transfers - even though the fans will be disappointed to hear just one of them is incoming. But what a player that is! Jose Mourinho has utilized his contacts book to raid former club Real Madrid with a tentative 30.0 million pounds bid for winger Xherdan Shaqiri (23). The Switzerland international has an impressive 46 games - 20 goals ratio for his nation and offers an explosive mixture of pace, flair, dribble, first touch, technique and shooting on the wing. His versatility will complement Eden Hazard perfectly!

This arrival has prompted Chelsea to sell winter acquisition Alexis Sanchez (26) to newly promoted Blackburn. Rovers agreed to a 13.0 million pounds fee for a player who impressed but failed to live up to his superstar tag during his short stint with the Blues.

Alexis Sanchez ends short stint with the Blues

Another player Chelsea agreed to sell to Blackburn is midfielder Marco van Ginkel (22). The versatile Dutch international didn't make a single first team appearance and spent both seasons of his Stamford Bridge career out on loan. Mourinho was never a fan of Marco and when Rovers asked about his availability during the Alexis Sanchez negotiations, the manager was happy to sanction a 18.5 million pounds deal.

Marco joins Rovers in double deal

Nomadic striker Edin Dzeko (29) became the third casualty as Chelsea let him go to Napoli for 7.25 million pounds after a single season at Stamford Bridge. Dzeko was unhappy with his bench role for the Blues even though he managed five goals from just 7 starts and 8 sub appearances and Mourinho was willing to retain him.

Dzeko leaves for first team football

The final player to leave Chelsea is another striker who became surplus to requirements - Demba Ba (30) opted to join another newly promoted club - Leeds, in a 4.7 million pounds bid to kick-start his career. Demba never made the grade since his transfer from Newcastle and only appeared once last season.

View attachment 415091
Ba ends Chelsea nightmare

Xherdan Shaqiri transfer verdict: 9.5/10 - it was hard to improve this Chelsea team but Mourinho somehow did it with this deal!

Alexis Sanchez transfer verdict: 3.5/10 - the Blues took a 5 million loss on a very good player in just six months - perhaps he could have stayed for at least another season!

Marco van Ginkel transfer verdict: 6.5/10 - bright young talent will find it very hard to break in this team but when you can't give them chance taking a huge profit on them isn't that bad of an option!

Edin Dzeko transfer verdict: 4.0/10 - another player Mourinho bought then sold for 5 million less after just one season - while there are much better options than Dzeko now than there were back then, it is still a financial failure.

Demba Ba transfer verdict: 5.5/10 - can't blame this one on Jose, Ba was never Chelsea quality and should have stayed at Newcastle.

After finally answering the calls for a big striker move by snapping up Edinson Cavani, Arsene Wenger continued to explore ways of improving the first team to make the much anticipated return to top four this season. Arsenal have moved to sign a name the fans will remember - in a shirt they wouldn't like to see though. Commanding center back Gerard Pique (28) has agreed to return to England after seven years in Barcelona. The Catalan giants accepted a 24.0 million pounds bid which leaves them with healthy 20 million profit over what they paid Manchester United for Gerard.

View attachment 415086
Pique arrives in London

Pique is not the player our fans will remember from his brief spell in the Red Devils first team nearly a decade ago. He is the finished article now and with 68 caps for Spain boasts vast experience both internationally and in European tournaments. Gerard will certainly appeal for his leadership qualities as well as astute defending - all in all he is a player the Emirates will admire.

Gerard Pique transfer verdict: 9.0/10 - big signing for Wenger, one that will definitely decrease the odds of conceding while increasing those of scoring.

Magpies announce first summer signing - largely underwhelming

June , 2015

By Kevin Keegan

It took a while for Newcastle to finally announce an incoming transfer this summer after so willingly letting three key players leave. Yet the official statement will hardly ease the frustrated fans. Have you heard of Christian Ognjanovic? No? You're not alone. How could you possibly know a 15-year old Italian kid? He doesn't even sound Italian. But he comes from Juventus and costs 1.5 million pounds, so there must be something about him that appealed to the scouts. Christian is a left back but could operate on either flank. Initial reports from Italy suggest he is actually quite a talent and his perfectionist personality has impressed throughout the country. All is good but there's a downside - he's about five years short of experience and not a defensive midfielder.

View attachment 415084
Ognjanovic first new player this summer

The positive side of this deal is it kind of confirms new owner Olivier Bernard will not be replacing manager Dimiter Hristov at the helm. Further facts pointing in that direction are Hristov has already completed his usual summer restructure of the backroom staff. It was the first time in his reign he had to accept losing a few of his most trusted man as coaches Bruno Demichelis and David Court, as well as goalkeeper coach Joe Corrigan announced their retirement. The new faces to fill the void will be coaches Dave Billows (Q.P.R.), Graeme Jones (Everton), Andy Renshaw (Liverpool), as well as fitness coach Altamiro Bottino (Botafogo) and goalkeeping coach Francisco Cersosimo (Atletico Mineiro):

If that doesn't convince you Olivier Bernard is now happy to retain the manager, the latest club statement will certainly make you reconsider as it granted a long-term wish Hristov had since entering his office but Mike Ashley was never able to fulfil it: "Newcastle and Montreal Impact are pleased to announce a link between the two clubs. Under the terms of the deal the following will apply effective immediately: Montreal Impact will host an annual friendly between the two clubs with all gate receipts to be kept by the club. Newcastle will be under no obligation to field a full-strength team. The presence of Newcastle within U.S.A. will be a major benefit to all merchandising sales. Newcastle have first option to buy players from Montreal Impact. In practice this means that once a bid for a player is accepted by Montreal Impact, a bid of the same value from Newcastle must also be accepted. It is then up to the player to decide his future. Newcastle will pay Montreal Impact an annual fee of 2.91 million pounds."

Christian Ognjanovic transfer verdict: 7.0/10 - after conducting some research I could say this player has a big future ahead of him and buying him was great piece of business.

This is without a shadow of a doubt the biggest transfer window Newcastle have had for at least a decade and we will keep a tracker on how the transfer budget is spent. The transfer fee spent on Christian Ognjanovic has been deducted from the pot:

Newcastle transfer budget: 127.04 million pounds (32.54 million initial)

Manchester City have decided to release three players who have left manager Jurgen Klopp disappointed during pre-season. Striker Alvaro Negredo (29) has been granted a 5.25 million pounds transfer to newly promoted Leeds. Alvaro had a decent first season with the Citizens, scoring 13 goals in 26 starts but then Manuel Pellegrini was sacked and Klopp only handed Alvaro 15 starts in the previous campaign, preferring to use him as impact sub for another 16 games. A return of 7 goals in all of those wasn't enough to earn a starting place and poor form in summer camp was the last drop for Klopp.

View attachment 415076
Negredo goes to Leeds

Manchester City also parted company with winger Jesus Navas (29), although the Spaniard will not be changing colors - he will make a 1.4 million pounds switch to Italian club Lazio. Navas was another Pellegrini signing and appeared just 9 times last season, only contributing a single assist. A number of serious injuries blighted his career at the Etihad and sources at the club suggested he's a pale shadow of the player he was two seasons ago.

View attachment 415075
Navas switch to Lazio

The third player to leave Manchester City is Romanian goalkeeper Costel Pantilimon (28) who was given the nod to finalize a 625k pounds move to shock Champions League winners Galatasaray. Costel was said to be happy with his bench role and the seven games he got last season but the chance to hold down a regular spot with the Turkish club appealed to him too much to say no.

View attachment 415074
Costel returns to the Balkans

Alvaro Negredo transfer verdict: 5.5/10 - useful backup player but his advancing age suggests it was the right time to cash in.

Jesus Navas transfer verdict: 6.5/10 - the Spaniard is beyond recognition but it's not Klopp's fault he has to sell the winger for less than a tenth of what his predecessor paid for him - it was the right move to get him off the wage bill.

Costel Pantilimon transfer verdict: 5.5/10 - the club showed a touch of class to let Costel have his dream move.

Tottenham have caused ripples of discontent by selling Christian Eriksen to Manchester United when the summer window opened but new manager Michael Laudrup has moved swiftly to sign a replacement from the Italian market. The player identified to fill the void is Giacomo Bonaventura (25). Giacomo arrives from Atalanta and costs a sizable 19.0 million pounds fee.

The fans were a little underwhelmed at this announcement but they should realize Giacomo is a 18-times capped Italy international and a World Cup champion. Although his prime position is attacking midfielder, he can play across the entire midfield. He is a rarely loyal footballer having spent the last decade with Atalanta. Bonaventura becomes Michael Laudrup's second signing after Newcastle defender Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa.

Giacomo Bonaventura transfer verdict: 5.5/10 - time will tell how good the Italian is but in all honesty the only thing to capture the attention with this transfer is the fee.

Chelsea grant former Gunner return to England

Former Gunner Fabregas returns to England
Fabregas definite upgrade to star midfield, says Ray Wilkins.

Chelsea have announced the signing of Barcelona tireless midfielder Cesc Fabregas (28) for a 22.5 million pounds fee. The 95-times capped Spain international will sparkle memories from his starring spell with Arsenal which ended with a dramatic saga five years ago. Cesc needs little introduction but let's give some numbers for those who don't follow La Liga so closely and aren't up to date with his achievements there: 116 games, 25 goals. 18 assists over the past two seasons. Five trophies with Barcelona.

View attachment 414878
Fabregas back in London!

Cesk will be a pleasing acquisition for Jose Mourinho. He works hard and holds his own in midfield battles but is devastating going forward. He was definitely mismanaged during his last two seasons in Spain and that convinced him to look for a move to salvage his career - allowing the Blues to land him for a cut-price fee. It was hard to imagine this Chelsea midfield could be improved any further but Fabregas does no less than that!

Cesc Fabregas transfer verdict: 9.5/10 - players like Fabregas can be the difference between close second and winning the title - and it was that little bit extra the Blues lacked last season.
