Drake: After watching what Newcastle did to West Ham, I can't bet against them! 0-5.
Mark Lawrenson: The Magpies are simply on fire right now and will win this. 1-4.

Mark Lawrenson: I'll back the Blues for a routine win. 0-2.

Aston Villa - Arsenal
Drake: Boxing day trip to Villa Park is hardly the best Christmas present for Arsenal and I'll say the hosts will prevail. 2-1.
Mark Lawrenson: I expect the Gunners to misfire in this one. 0-0.

Blackburn - Swansea
Drake: This sounds like an even clash. 2-2.
Mark Lawrenson: Rovers will win this one. 2-1.

Hull - Manchester City
Drake: The Citizens have had so many games recently, tiredness will catch up with them. 1-1.
Mark Lawrenson: I think Man City have enough in the tank to push through this one. 1-3.

Manchester United - Derby
Drake: We just have to win this one. 3-0.
Mark Lawrenson: I'll also back the Red Devils for a good result. 4-0.

Last week, Lawro got five results right, with no perfect scores. His score of 5 was just good enough to beat the predictions of Tottenham fan Jude Law, who scored 4, managing four correct results with no perfect scores.

Premier League predictions: Lawro v Caro

BBC Sport's football expert Mark Lawrenson is pitting his wits against a different guest each week this season.

This week he takes on Danish professional tennis player and Liverpool fan Caroline Wozniacki. Caroline is a former World No. 1 on the WTA Tour. As of 23 January 2012, she held this position for 67 weeks. She was the first Scandinavian woman to hold the top ranking position and 20th overall. To date Wozniacki has won 21 WTA titles.

Lawro vs Liverpool fan Caroline Wozniacki

A correct result is worth ONE point. A correct score earns THREE points.

Newcastle - Blackburn
Caroline Wozniacki: Big game, I don't know who to side with so I'll go for no winner. 2-2.
Mark Lawrenson: It can really go either way but right now the Magpies are a little bit more impressive and given the home advantage I'll back them for a win. 4-2.

Arsenal - Everton
Caroline Wozniacki: Sounds like a close, even match - 1-1.
Mark Lawrenson: I'll back Arsenal for this one - 2-1.

Manchester City - Aston Villa
Caroline Wozniacki: Will be a cracking game but I think Man City will prevail in the end - 3-1.
Mark Lawrenson: Easy home win. 4-0.

Nottingham Forest - Manchester United
Caroline Wozniacki: Easy, the only question is how many they will score - 0-4.
Mark Lawrenson: I also expect the Red Devils to enjoy a good game here, 1-3.

Chelsea - Leeds
Caroline Wozniacki: Let's call for an upset here, 1-2.
Mark Lawrenson: I don't think the Blues will allow any slip-ups right now. 2-1.

Last week, Lawro got four results right, with one perfect score. His score of 6 was more than enough to beat the predictions of Manchester United Drake, who scored 1, managing one correct result with no perfect scores.

Gary Lineker: Good evening and welcome to Match of the Day for our thoughts on the 2016/17 Premier League season! It seems the race will be as tight as ever this time around and as we all know it is those direct 6-pointer clashes that play a decisive part in deciding who will fly and who will fall. For this reason we will be focusing solely on those giant games in Match of the Day. Stay with us as Alan Hansen and Alan Shearer aid me on analyzing the key aspects of what happened and why it happened for you!

Newcastle - Blackburn
2-0
View attachment 405440

Gary Lineker: Newcastle welcomed Blackburn at Saint James' Park looking to end the year on the same high they have been performing at in recent months and they could play free of any pressure knowing their five point lead at the top would guarantee them entering the new year as leaders whatever the outcome. Rovers were 11 points behind their hosts but just three off the top four and anything would have been welcome in their quest to secure Champions League football. After a quiet first half the Magpies took the lead after the break with a good Zouma header following a corner and then went on to seal the win with a brilliant Januzaj strike just before the full time whistle.
Alan Hansen: I thought Blackburn had a good plan for this match and it showed in the first half when it was a very even affair. It was for an awkward set piece defending mistake the hosts got the lead and that played a key part in the outcome - after that Zouma header went in, the visitors never looked like they could score. Despite the huge investment Rovers were shown they are still quite behind in terms of quality and team chemistry and need to put in much more work if they want to close the gap.
Alan Shearer: The best players for Newcastle were the goalscorers Januzaj and Zouma, who also took the PoM award. Tim Krul was also impressive and pulled four good saves to keep his team in contention in the first half. Papadopoulos was pure class for Rovers but the likes of Marcelo disappointed.
Gary Lineker: This win grants Newcastle a 5 point lead at the top after the first half of the season. Results elsewhere didn't go well for Blackburn though and they are now 6 points adrift of that coveted 4th place.

1 Current first team injury:
Stevan Jovetic - 3-4 weeks (broken collarbone)

Blackburn

Lee Dixon: Citizens capture exciting fullback
View attachment 405367
LEE DIXON Sunday 1 January 2017
Manchester City haven't been very active on the transfer market in recent windows and it comes as a slight surprise they moved fast to become the first club concluding business in January by acquiring attacking fullback Alex Grimaldo (21) from FC Porto in a 27.0 million pounds deal. The Spain international has already amassed 17 caps for his country and will provide healthy competition on the left flank of defense or - should Klopp decide to - midfield.

View attachment 405366
Grimaldo joins the Citizens

Grimaldo came through the ranks of the famed Barcelona academy but failed to make an impression in the Catalan giants first team and was snapped by FC Porto 18 months ago for just 750k pounds. Fast forward to today and he has grown massively in stature after series of quality performances for the Portuguese club.

Alex Grimaldo transfer verdict: 8.5/10 - one of the best possible young players for his position, Alex might only be a squad player this season but will most likely push for a place in the starting team for years to come.

Premier League predictions: Lawro v sir Caine

BBC Sport's football expert Mark Lawrenson is pitting his wits against a different guest each week this season.

This week he takes on English actor, author and Chelsea fan sir Michael Caine. Renowned for his distinctive Cockney accent, Caine appeared in over 115 films and is one of the UK's most recognisable actors. He has been Oscar-nominated six times, winning his first Academy Award for the 1986 film Hannah and Her Sisters, and his second in 1999 for the Cider House Rules, in both cases as a supporting actor. His performance in Educating Rita in 1983 earned him the BAFTA and Golden Globe Award for Best Actor.

Lawro vs Chelsea fan sir Michael Caine

A correct result is worth ONE point. A correct score earns THREE points.

Blackburn - West Ham
Sir Michael Caine: The home side will win this. 3-0.
Mark Lawrenson: I can't see past Rovers here. 4-1.

Chelsea - Bolton
Sir Michael Caine: No contention at all, Chelsea are a different league - or two. 5-1.
Mark Lawrenson: I also expect the Blues to murder their visitors by a big margin. 5-0.

Arsenal, Manchester City, Manchester United, Newcastle games postponed

Last week, Lawro got five results right, with one perfect score. His score of 7 was way too good for the predictions of Liverpool fan Caroline Wozniacki, who scored 2, managing two correct results with no perfect scores.
