Premier League predictions: Lawro v Megan Fox

BBC Sport's football expert Mark Lawrenson is pitting his wits against a different guest each week this season.

This week he takes on American actress, model and Manchester United fan Megan Fox. She emerged to stardom after starring in Transformers. Fox is also considered one of the modern female *** symbols and has appeared in magazines such as Maxim, Rolling Stone and FHM.

Lawro vs Manchester United fan Megan

A correct result is worth ONE point. A correct score earns THREE points.

Fulham - Manchester United
Megan Fox: It'd be great to extend our record winning sequence a little more! 1-3.
Mark Lawrenson: Craven Cottage isn't the place the Red Devils will be stopped. 0-3.

Manchester City - Swansea
Megan Fox: It would be hard but I'd like to see Swansea take something from this game. 1-1.
Mark Lawrenson: The Citizens will cruise in this one. 4-1.

Arsenal - Newcastle
Megan Fox: Perfect game for both chasers to drop points. 2-2.
Mark Lawrenson: As a matter of fact I share the prediction that the Magpies will fail to win at the Emirates, I'll even go further and suggest they will come out of it empty-handed. 3-1.

Chelsea - Blackburn
Megan Fox: The Blues will win this. 2-1.
Mark Lawrenson: I'm inclined to say this will end up in a draw. 2-2.

Last week, Lawro got three results right, with one perfect score. His score of 5 was a perfect match for the predictions of Tottenham fan Darcey Bussell, who scored 5, managing three correct results with one perfect score.

Gary Lineker: Good evening and welcome to Match of the Day for our thoughts on the 2016/17 Premier League season! It seems the race will be as tight as ever this time around and as we all know it is those direct 6-pointer clashes that play a decisive part in deciding who will fly and who will fall. For this reason we will be focusing solely on those giant games in Match of the Day. Stay with us as Alan Hansen and Alan Shearer aid me on analyzing the key aspects of what happened and why it happened for you!

Arsenal - Newcastle
0-1

Gary Lineker: Arsenal welcomed Newcastle in a game that could have allowed the Gunners to leapfrog their visitors in the league table. The Magpies were looking to capitalize on the shock defeat of leaders Man United but the hosts dominated the first half. Erik Lamela got the away team a massive goal against the flow of play just after the break and it proved to be the winner as neither side could deliver despite numerous chances going both ways until the final whistle.
Alan Hansen: The Gunners paid the price for poor finishing - you just can't afford to waste so many opportunities against Newcastle! Arsenal had a great start, but squandered two clear cut chances in the opening minutes. As a matter of fact the Magpies were second best during the entire first half but the early goal after the break opened it up a great deal and the game became pretty even. The hosts never found their finishing touch though and it cost them dearly in the end.
Alan Shearer: Ramsey was the key factor in the home midfield, he ran the show and produced a number of key passes to underline the Arsenal dominance in the first half. Nkoulou gave away the ball for the goal though and he will want to forget this game as soon as possible. Zouma claimed the PoM award after marshaling a determined defense which eventually sealed an unlikely clean sheet for the visitors - he was backed up by commanding performances from Tim Krul and Gino Peruzzi. Lamela is also worth a mention for scoring the winner in a decisive moment of the match.
Gary Lineker: It's been a while since we've seen an ugly win from the Magpies but it's just what they did and it puts them just two points behind Man United in the table. The Gunners remain in top four but they know they missed a great opportunity to get involved in the title fight.

Chelsea - Blackburn
2-1
View attachment 407450

Gary Lineker: Stamford Bridge geared up for a crucial match with Blackburn as Chelsea couldn't afford to fire yet another blank. Whichever team won this would have ended the weekend above the other and better situated in the struggle for top four position. And it seemed lady luck was flying around Rovers' shoulders when Sergio Ramos got himself sent off just midway through the first half - but the visitors couldn't make numbers count before the break. When everyone was expecting Chelsea to struggle, they came all guns blazing in the second period and goals from Lewandowski and Hazard despaired the away side. Robben pulled one back for Blackburn but the Blues defended well after and didn't allow an equalizer to finally secure a big result this season.
Alan Hansen: It was a bit strange Chelsea needed the shock of the Ramos red card to turn up and deliver a spirited team performance but when it happened, it was simply too good for Blackburn to handle. The Blues dominated the game even though it was very open and both teams had plenty of chances. We saw no less than eight clear cut opportunities and the home side had five of them so I can say the final result was fair.
Alan Shearer: Hazard got the PoM award for his inspired goalscoring performance but I'll also highlight Courtois who saved some very dangerous shots. Lallana and especially captain Vermaelen were great for the visitors but their work was undone by a poor ter Stegen in goal who could have reacted better in the build-up of the second home goal.
Gary Lineker: The Blues have finally put the disappointment from the poor start behind and rose above Blackburn in the table even if by a single point - they are 9 under the leaders now and just 2 outside the top four. Blackburn also keep their chances pretty open despite this loss.

Premier League predictions: Lawro v Samuel Jackson

BBC Sport's football expert Mark Lawrenson is pitting his wits against a different guest each week this season.

This week he takes on American film and television actor and film producer, as well as Liverpool fan Samuel Jackson. Jackson's many roles have made him one of the highest-grossing actors at the box office. He has won multiple awards throughout his career and has been portrayed in various forms of media, including films, television series, and songs.

Lawro vs Liverpool fan Samuel

A correct result is worth ONE point. A correct score earns THREE points.

Chelsea - Manchester United
Samuel Jackson: Two good teams, not much to set them apart. 1-1.
Mark Lawrenson: I expect the Blues to prevail at Stamford Bridge, but it will be a close contest. 2-1.

Southampton - Newcastle
Samuel Jackson: This one is easy to call, 0-3.
Mark Lawrenson: I think the Magpies will find it a little harder than they expect against Southampton. 2-2.

Manchester City - Q.P.R.
Samuel Jackson: Not much of a contest either, 3-0.
Mark Lawrenson: The Citizens should be winning such games with ease. 4-0.

Arsenal - Blackburn
Samuel Jackson: I'll go for a shocker here - 1-3.
Mark Lawrenson: I think the Gunners will put home advantage to use in this one but it won't be easy - 2-1.

Last week, Lawro got one result right, with no perfect scores. His score of 1 was not good enough to beat the predictions of Manchester United fan Megan Fox, who scored 3, managing one correct result with one perfect score.

4-1

Gary Lineker: Chelsea welcomed Manchester United at Stamford Bridge hoping to cut the 9 point cushion between the two teams after the shockingly poor start of the season the Blues had. The Red Devils needed a result to remain top of the league or risked being overtaken by Newcastle. They seemed on track to secure it when Kagawa gave them the lead just after the half hour mark but Chelsea were spurred into action and turned it around with Hazard and Neymar goals before the break. The Blues superiority showed in the closing stages as another Hazard strike and a Lewandowski shot made it a convincing scoreline in the end.
Alan Hansen: The Red Devils had confidence to come at Stamford Bridge and look for the win but I think the second goal Chelsea got just before the break broke them down. They never recovered from it and the Blues stepped up after the break, sensing the game is there for the taking. It will be interesting to see how David Moyes reacts to this defeat as we can now speak of a possible crisis in his side after the brilliant ten-game winning streak before that.
Alan Shearer: Hazard got the PoM award again and you can easily see why - not only did he score two goals, he was literally everywhere for Chelsea and produced more shots both on and off the target than the entire Man United team combined! Neymar, Lewandowski and Hummels also impressed but I'll stress on David Luiz' exceptional composure in both boxes as it was a truly top-class performance. On the contrary none of the Man United players impressed me but the entire defensive line, especially Kyle Walker, were appalling.
Gary Lineker: This was a big win for Chelsea as it puts them somewhat back in contention for the title, reducing the gap from the top to seven points. The Red Devils are still in it but they were knocked off the summit by in-form Newcastle and will need to respond quickly.

Arsenal - Blackburn
2-1
View attachment 407100

Gary Lineker: Blackburn arrived at the Emirates knowing victory could allow them to catch up with Arsenal in the battle for top four and possibly keep title hopes alive. The Gunners needed a result to stay as close as possible to the top themselves and a Wanyama goal in the first half put them on track to do just so. Benteke equalized after the break and all of a sudden it became a pretty open affair with three points within sight for both sides but it was the Gunners who struck again near the end, Mesut Ozil providing what proved to be the winner.
Alan Hansen: Rovers had adopted a patient approach in this game and even though it got them back in it when Benteke seized on a defensive error in the home team to equalize, I'd say it was a little bit too patient. Arsenal are tactically astute team and it is incredibly hard to break them down the way Rovers tried to. Wenger knew his players would get more opportunities to score and it was what mattered in the end. Plus the third sub the visitors did after the Benteke goal literally screamed they were happy to settle with a point - you don't replace Kroos with Rodwell if you are chasing the game - and this defensive mentality simply invited pressure in their half which they ultimately couldn't handle.
Alan Shearer: PoM award winner Wanyama was exceptional for Arsenal, scoring the first and assisting the second goal for his team. Of course Ozil also deserves credit for producing the winner although Wenger will be concerned with the poor performance of goalkeeper Sirigu who let in a cheap goal. The introduction of Benteke in the second half was the best move Rovers made as the Belgium striker delivered a goal with his only shot.
Gary Lineker: It was an important win for Arsenal as it not only puts them six points above Blackburn, but cuts the gap from the top to just five points. Rovers have lost some pace recently and will have to hit form to justify their title contender tag.

Lawro vs Chelsea fan Bill

A correct result is worth ONE point. A correct score earns THREE points.

Newcastle - Manchester City
Bill Clinton: You just have to hope these two end up with a draw, if you are a Chelsea fan that is. 2-2.
Mark Lawrenson: It's a tough game to predict as the only sure thing is there will be goals - I'll say the Magpies will prevail thanks to home advantage. 3-2.

Manchester United - Leeds
Bill Clinton: This one should also be an even game. 1-1.
Mark Lawrenson: It's about time the Red Devils pick up a win. 3-1.

Tottenham - Chelsea
Bill Clinton: It's a derby but we are in good shape and can take a positive result. 1-3.
Mark Lawrenson: I'd back the Blues in this one but it will be close. 1-2.

Q.P.R. - Arsenal

Bill Clinton: Another local derby, hopefully another draw. 1-1.
Mark Lawrenson: The Gunners should win this one. 0-3.

Blackburn - Bolton
Bill Clinton: Home team is much better here. 3-0.
Mark Lawrenson: I'll also say Rovers will take a win in this one. 2-0.

Last week, Lawro got three results right, with one perfect score. His score of 5 was just enough to beat the predictions of Liverpool fan Samuel Jackson, who scored 4, managing two correct results with one perfect score.
