Martin Palermo: End of an Era

martin-palermo.jpg

today, Martin Palermo retired from football. He was a great servant to Boca, but niggling injuries stopped him from playing many games last season.
How ever, he will always have a place in Boca hearts.

On July 13, 2004, after 3 and a half years of playing in Spain for 3 different teams (Villarreal, Real Betis, and Alavés), Palermo returned to Boca Juniors.[Later that year on December 17, Martín scored his 100th goal with Boca on the final of the 2004 Copa Sudamericana a 2–0 victory over Bolívar.

Palermo once again back in top form kept himself placed among the best scorers in the Argentine league, scoring 11 goals in three consecutive tournaments (2006 Clausura, 2006 Apertura and top scorer of the 2007 Clausura). During the 2007 Clausura tournament he had several memorable moments, the first of which came on February 25, when he scored a half pitch goal in the dying seconds of a 3–1 victory over Independiente, a couple of weeks later on March 10 he scored three goals against his former team Estudiantes in a 3–1 Boca victory at La Plata, and he didn't celebrate any of them. It was the fourth hat-trick of his career. A game later, on March 18, he scored a career high of four goals in the 5–1 victory against Gimnasia de la Plata, Estudiantes de La Plata's archi-rivals.
The following season the 2007 Apertura, he continued to be among the Argentine league top scorers with 13 goals. His best game that season came on September 16, in a game against Banfield, in which Martín scored four goals, in the 6–0 Boca victory.
Palermo scored his fifth career hat-trick in a 3–0 Boca Juniors victory, this was a must win game that was played in Jalisco, Mexico, against Atlas on May 21, 2008.

Palermo during the 2008 Joan Gamper Trophy match
At the beginning of the 2008 Apertura, on August 24 he suffered yet another serious injury, this time he injured his anterior cruciate and tore his medial collateral ligament during the 2–1 victory against Lanús, with an expected recovery period of 5 to 8 months. After this was known, the Argentine coach at that time, Alfio Basile commented that he had chosen him to play for the national team for the following match in the World Cup qualifiers
Palermo's first goal since his injury came on his fourth game back, during a 3–1 victory over Huracán on March 1 in the 2009 Clausura, this was Martín Palermo's 195 goal with Boca Juniors, breaking Francisco Varallo record of 194 goals in the professional era. Almost two months after on April 30, Martín scored a bicycle kick goal, which gave him 200 goals with Boca Juniors, in a 3–0 victory against Deportivo Táchira.
During the 2009 Apertura, on October 4 in a game against Vélez Sársfield, Martín Palermo scored a very special goal (a header that traveled around 38.9 meters), this goal gave him 200 goals in the Argentine First Division and also gave Boca a 3–2 victory.
On July 22, 2010, with 36 years of age, Palermo announced that he had renewed his contract with Boca Juniors for one year and that he will retire at the end of the contract.
Martín Palermo scored his sixth career hat-trick on September 19, 2010 in a 3–1 Boca victory over Colón.
On December 13, 2010, Palermo scored his 300th career goal in the final match of the 2010 Apertura in a 1–1 draw against Gimnasia de La Plata.

PSV Eindhoven 4 - 1 Boca Juniors
Orlanda Engelaar (22, 46, Pen 62), Insaurralde Own Goal (85)
Santa Cruz (8), Sauro Sent Off (60)

Boca started their pre season tour of Holland in Eindhoven. And Boca were off to a flying start, with Santa Cruz scoring a brilliant goal on 8 minutes.
But Boca began to tire, as they'd only been training for a week and on 22 minutes, PSV equalised.
It was down hill from there, because after the break, Engelaar scored his second goal putting the hosts 2-1 up. Substitute and promising youngster, Sauro, was sent off for bringing Wuytens down in the box, Engelaar putting the resulting penalty away, securing his hat trick.
Boca were tired and Insaurralde headed the ball into his own net to complete PSV's 4-1 win

Mr Drezzy was obviously upset at the defeat, but the boys didn't have their fitness. This tour wasn't about results, it was about getting fit. But Mr Drezzy should be worried about his new strikers, whop didn't have a good game. The gap left by Tevez and Aguero would be hard to fill

Tevez: I can't settle, i want to go home

tevez4_110595t.jpg

Around this time last year, Boca secured the loan signing of Tevez. Manchester City thought this would settle him and it looked like it did.
Tevez has been back in Manchester for a couple of months now and has again declared he is unhappy, and wants to leave.
Real Madrid and Barcelona are said to be interested, but Tevez would ideally like a move back to Argentina. How ever, Boca would love the want away striker back, and reports are suggesting they could match Manchester City's £12 million asking price, how ever, The players wages would be a stumbling block.

FC Eindhoven 0 - 2 Boca Juniors

Jo (32, 52)

Next up, Boca took to the field against PSV's unfancied neighbours, FC Eindhoven. But the talking points of this match wont be Jo's two goals either side of half time, it was the fact that Pablo Piatti played in goal, and played really well.
Both Boca keepers were away with the National team, so Piatti stepped in and took the gloves. But it didn't matter, because FC Eindhoven were poor and Boca walked away with the win

MVS_0670%20Aanvallend%20FC%20Eindhoven.jpg

Mr Drezzy must be happy with the result, players were out of position and they still managed to play well, and not concede.

Lucas Barrios signs for 12 Million

barrios_bvb_f.jpg

Today, Boca Juniors signed Argentine striker Lucas Barrios from Borussia Dortmund for a fee of £12 Million pounds.
With this signing, Boca surely must have pulled out of any move for Boca legend, Carlos Tevez

I dont know if we'll get him, In talks with Man City but just heard Tottenham are coming in for him, so i dont know.
It's the wages that will screw us up i think.

Ah that would suck, but if tottenham unsettle him why not try another loan bid instead mate? worked last year and had **** of a season for you too!

Sorry Boca...

Pg-49-tevez-basemen_216606t.jpg

Today, from their base camp in Holland, Boca confirmed that they had a £13 Million pound offer accepted for Carlos Tevez last week.
Since then, Agents from Boca have been trying to convince tevez to sign a four year deal. But talks have fallen through due to Tevez's wage demands.
He would be the highest paid player in Argentine History, and had said at talks he would accept the offer. But three days later, Tevez indicated he could not sign the contract because he wont accept such a risible pay increase.
Was Tevez worried about Boca's finances? Only time will tell, but it is understood Boca will not be making a fresh approach

Shearer: Piatti can replace Cahill

02022008_alan-shearer.jpg

Speaking from Goodison park today, Alan Shearer has said that if the money is available, then He would move for Boca's Pablo Piatti. He was quoted as saying that Piatti could replace Cahill, there has been no comment from the Boca camp as of yet.

Tevez talks fall through, Boca sign one last striker

diego-milito1.jpg

After the talks with Tevez broke down, Boca were on the look out for one more striker, to join Jo, Santa Cruz and new boy Barrios. We understand that Milito's agent contacted Boca after he was released from Inter Milan.
Mr Drezzy was heard saying that he was so into talks with Tevez and Barrios, that he hadn't realised Milito was available. He went on to add, some times Football Agents are a good thing

The owners confirmed that Tevez has been offered to Inter Milan, A.C Milan, Palermo, Real Madrid, Atletico Madrid, Barcelona, Chelsea, Newcastle, Argentinos, Velez, Cruizero and Boca Juniors.

AZ Alkmaar 2 - 2 Boca Juniors

Stijn Schaars (2), Siem Heerkens (90+1)
Torres (36), Piatti (78)

In the final game of their pre season tour, Boca took on AZ Alkmaar. It was AZ who took the lead on two minutes, catching out a sleepy Boca defence. But Boca drew level on the half hour mark, with Torres scoring a lovely header.
It was all square going into the break with nothing separating the two sides. On 77 minutes, Boca were given a penalty, which Piatti Nestled into the top right hand corner.
It looked like Boca would ****** the win, but in stoppage time, Heerkens volleyed in a shot, to the disbelief of the tired Boca players

Az-Alkmaar-Fan-wallpaper-25-316x220.jpg

Mr Drezzy thought that Boca should have won, but that wasn't his main problem. Boca were still looking tired, he had to get them back to Argentina for some intense fitness training

Boca Back Drezzy

Pastore.jpg

On their return from Holland, Mr Drezzy was a very happy man. He had gone to the board, in hopes of signing just one more player. He had highlighted a few names, Pastore one of them, hoping the board would bite. And they did.
Mr Drezzy was called into the office where the board members explained they had completed the signings of Pastore and Pacheco, for a combined total of 21 Million.
They underlined the fact that it was Drezzy's amazing work in the Copa Libertadores that had been able to finance the move, plus Mr Drezzy sending his reserves to Australia, which raked in a huge amount

The Start of the Season: The Opening Stage

Banfield 0 - 4 Boca Juniors

Barrios (10), Piatti (27), Jo (36), Santa Cruz (79)

wpid-Banfield-vs-Boca-Juniors.jpg

Last season, Banfield handed Boca their first league defeat and wanted to do the same again this year, how ever, Boca had different ideas.
Boca were on fine form, and Debuting Barrios scored on the 10 minute marker, with a cracking volley. Piatti then piled on the misery, scoring a neat chip after a decent run.
Then Jo was on the end of a Pastore cross, heading the ball past the Banfield keeper.
The game then slowed down, but Boca maintained control, with Santa Cruz ending the scoring on 79 minutes.

004+-+banfield+boca.jpg

Mr Drezzy was delighted, Boca looked fit again, and they ran rings around a stunned Banfield side. Mr Drezzy told the press that they didn't need Tevez or Aguero, Barrios and co had already filled their boots

Tevez: I wont ever go back!

638.jpg

Carlos Tevez blamed his collapsed move on Manchester City earlier on today. He said they were holding him prisoner, and he wants to Move to Tottenham.
When questioned on a move back to Boca, Tevez said he wouldn't go back whilst Mr Drezzy was in charge, apparently Mr Drezzy's remarks about his shoes already being filled upset the Striker

Brazilian Move for Mr Drezzy?

fluminense%2Blibertadores.jpg

Apparently, after sacking Ramalho, Fluminense have declared interest in Boca's manager, Mr Drezzy. it is widely known that Mr Drezzy has only a year left on his contract, and talks on a new contract have fallen through.
But Mr Drezzy stated that he has fallen in Love with Boca, and hopes to sign a new deal soon. And if he was to leave Boca, it would be for Europe, not Brazil

Boca Juniors 2-0 Belgrano
Jo (43), Pastore (87), Riquelme Injured (83)

1246315016743_f.jpg

Boca welcomed Premier Division new boys Belgrano in the second league game of the season. Boca were touted to pile on the Misery but in truth, Belgrano were solid, they held a solid back line and denied Boca most of the time. But a powerful header from Jo on 43 minutes gave Boca a likely lead.
In the second half, Belgrano were strong again and if they had more quality up front, they may have managed to nick a goal, but they didn't and it was Boca who clinched the win when Pastore curled in a brilliant free kick, his first goal in a Boca shirt

2318343321_436f0dab4d.jpg

Mr Drezzy would probably have loved to score more, but it was about the points today. They'd done well to break down a solid defense

Fair enough mate, im a huge fan of Boca and have been since i seen them live when i was over in Argentina about 6 yrs ago. Love the players, just hope they could have a squad alternative to this 1 in real liffe

I know, it's a shame really. Riquelme is good, but i don't know how they lost to Godoy Cruz the other night. That was bad.

Boca Juniors 4-1 Newells Old boys

Jo (15, 84), Chavez (52), Viatri (59) Riquelme Injured (83)

Bernardi(65)

x_historial_boca_newells-465x362.jpg

This was a glorified Reserve team match, as most of Both teams players were away on International Duty, great planning by the Argentine F.A.
If Jo continues to play like he has been, then he'll be called up to the Main Brazilian squad, Scoring his first of the day on 15 Minutes, Another header. Boca went in 1-0 up at half time, but they turned on the style on the second half, with Chavez tearing apart the inexperienced Newells defence, placing the ball in the left hand corner. Then Viatri gave Mr Drezzy a selection head ache, rounding off his brilliant display with a goal, although it could have been offside.
Newells pulled one back, blasting the ball past the 15 year old Boca shot stopper. Near the end, a tired Newells let Jo break lose, and he scored a tap in. Boca won their third match of the season

Newell%2527s+vs+Boca+Juniors.jpg

With most of his first team players out, he relied on his new Man Jo to grab the result, and the Brazilian done just that, Jo seems to have settled in rather well

Gago to return?

Fernando+Gago1.jpg

Real Madrid club sources have today leaked that Fernando Gago could be set to leave the club, most probably on Loan. If Roma show no interest in the Argentine Star, his former club Boca are seen as the number one Candidates to take him back.
Gago was in top form for Madrid when he joined from Boyhood club Boca, but now he has found himself out of sorts, not playing for the first team for well over 8 months

Tevez still remains a Manchester City player, but today he left Manchester after he broke his Ankle whilst playing for Argentina.
It is thought Tevez is flying to New York to see a specialist, but rumours are rife that Tevez is returning to Argentina, along with his agent

Independiente 1 - 2 Boca Juniors

Velazquez (1)

Piatti (42), Jo (90) [

wpid-Independiente-vs-Boca-Juniors.jpg

Boca restored their first team players for this match, but it could have been a mistake as they all looked tired, and had all lost a yard. With in two minutes, Boca were down, it was independiente who scored first, with Velazquez scoring with a header, leaving Romero with no chance.
It was Independiente who kept on pressing, Boca looked lost, but they couldn't find the net. They came close on 38 minutes but Galeano cleared off the line. Piatti, on Boca's second attack earned a corner. It was Piatti who took at and the ball had a supernatural spin to it, and it ended in the net
The second half was more of the same, but Independiente just couldn't get it together in the final third, where as Boca couldn't get it together at all.
1 minutes from the end, Jo, who had been quiet all game, broke away and what came next was pure magic. He went past one, then another defender, before blasting the ball into the bottom left hand corner. Boca held on for the win

n_boca_juniors_fecha_5_club_atletico_independiente_vs_boca_juniors-1824.jpg

Mr Drezzy knew boca were lucky today. 3 pointst in the bag but the one thing he learnt from this is that he'll send players to International duty with special instructions, not to play the whole game

Fernando Gago's mum made an emotional public plea to her son earlier today, Begging her son to come home to Argentina.
She was reading from a written statement, and claimed his career was going no where in Spain. She begged him to come home, to rebuild his reputation, where he may have another shot at Joining a Big European Club. She told him never accept second best
