Breaking news!!! has Martin O'Neill resigned

Aston Villa have denied it, but Scott is saying that apparently there is a press conference at 6pm tonight.

could be to defo deny it. or to confirm it.

It was Ray Paarlour who said about the press conference so probaly rubbish. he isnt all there

if this is true, the worst decision of the season, FACT, for any club

He wouldn't have been sacked Joe, he would have resigned due to an argument with Randy Lerner. So not really a bad decision if he's walked out

Not bad for him but bad for villa, he got them right out of the **** that the awful david o leary left them in, someone else will snap him up but villa will be doomed in my opinion, if this is true mark hughes for next villa manager

Talk sport reported on way home.

Stan Collymore has spoken to O'neil. in a personal call. He didnt comment on his future. But he did say he was annoyed at a number of things.

1) He felt he should of been able to replace Craig Gardener with the 3million recouped.

2) He wanted more money to strengthen Squad in summer

3) Lerner wanted to discuss possibly of selling Milner To raise Cash after Utd lodged an Interest to the club.

4) They had an argument over O'neil wanting to take players away for a couple of days break this year. Lerner wouldnt finaces or sanction ths due to the 7-1 loss

WOW!!! come on Martin do the right thing :P mess them up :)

I think that he will stay, but if they lose a couple more games he will quit or be sacked, still waiting for it on SkySports

Guys, stop this crazy, he won't leave Villa, he put a lot of effort on the team and he still has chances for Champions League, if not, he can play in Europa League next year, it won't be a big mess, he was just mad that his side lost to Chelsea with 7-1. Also, Lerner is selfish... If he will leave, that will be a BIG MESS for Villa and I hope he won't because Premier League still needs him.

Lerner sounds like a bit of a mug

Possibly, or he's saying that he can no longer afford to keep bankrolling Villa's attempts to get fourth and the club will have to have a few seasons with lower expectations in preparation for the next time a challenge is possible.

Spurs will start hitting that limit soon too, at least until their new stadium is built and paid for.

Been hearing about this all day up in Nottingham.

"Aston Villa have denied rumours that Martin O'Neill has quit the club.

Unconfirmed claims are circulating in the Midlands that the Villa Park chief has resigned following a disagreement with chairman Randy Lerner.

It is understood that the club's American owner wanted to trim the playing squad and cut the wage bill this summer, while O'Neill wanted money to spend to bolster his squad to continue their challenge to break into the top four.

When told that money would not be forthcoming, the Ulsterman is believed to have decided to consider his future, but the club insists he has not resigned.

Villa have an FA Cup semi-final against Chelsea on April 10. And Chelsea beat Villa 7-1 in the Premier League at the weekend.

O'Neill joined the club in August 2006."

It can't happen

Resign? I don't believe O'Neil resign as Villa Manager. If it happen, because he received the big offer from big club or family reason.

Villa will never sack him. They would be complete idiots if they were to. The bloke is the only reason they are where they are today. A few seasons ago they were a nobody mid table team that were completely pointless.. now they are going places with a young squad with lots of talent pushing to get into champs league and gaining trophies. dont rekon he will leave them either, think its just his way of saying that he is bit sick of the stick and grumpy fans not backing the team when they have got the best squad they have had for years. also he likes to run everything in the club but so does the owner being a typical american owner who has to try and control the team. they will be a compromise between the two of them and they will carry on.

to be honest aslong as they dont get 4th but beat chelsea in the cup im happy :)

Hmm, would be awesome if we can buy Ashley from them. :D

On their official website, there's nothing to talk about this quiting.

Would have been perfect for us would love to have him back at Celtic.

Randy Lerner's right-hand man has dismissed reports of a rift between the Aston Villa owner and manager Martin O'Neill.

Speculation on Tuesday claimed that O'Neill had quit his position at Villa Park, with bookmakers slashing the odds on the Northern Irishman being the next Premier League manager to leave his post.

O'Neill was rumoured to be unhappy with the transfer budget on offer for the summer before sources at the club dismissed the claims as 'pure nonsense'.

And the club's non-executive director General Charles Krulak has moved to quash any notion of a breakdown in the relationship between O'Neill and Lerner.

Speculation
"It was painful, I don't think that anyone at Villa Park feels differently," said Krulak in the Daily Mail regarding last weekend's 7-1 defeat at Chelsea.

"Questions about Randy and Martin and their relationship are simply the result of speculation - not based on fact at all."

The reports had suggested O'Neill would have to 'sell to buy' at the end of the season if he wanted to reinforce his Villa squad.

O'Neill has spent heavily over the past two summers, but there was a distinct lack of activity during the January transfer window.

Craig Gardner was sold to local rivals Birmingham City for £3million, while O'Neill was unable to add to his ranks for the second half of the season.

if he has resinged its a cowincedence(sp) that hes resinged when his beloved celtic is locking for a new manager
