Pre-Season Results

France Tour
Havre AC 0 - 1 Chelsea
AJ Auxerre 0 - 5 Chelsea

Chesterfield 0 - 6 Chelsea
Scunthorpe 1 - 5 Chelsea
Blackpool 0 - 5 Chelsea

Highlights: After a dismal first half against AJ Auxerre, tactics were switched a bit, and the blues came out brilliantly in the second half to completely ruin Aj Auxerre. Jack Rodwell also got himself a goal against Chesterfield, which is a great boost to his confidence, albeit it's only a friendly. I do believe that pre-season is simply a warm up, but this has been a very impressive one nevertheless.

Chelsea's next match is against Manchester United in the Charity Shield Final, to be held at Wembley.

Chelsea vs. Manchester United
Charity Shield, Wembley Stadium

This match is a televised game.

Live Commentary
14:02: The squads are now coming in here at sunny Wembley:
Chelsea: Cech, Bosingwa, A. Cole, Terry, Carvalho, Mikel, Lampard, Essien, Deco, Anelka, Drogba
Man Utd: Foster, Evra, O'Shea, Ferdinand, Brown, Ji-Sung, Valencia, Fletcher, Carrick, Rooney, Berbatov
14:22: We also heard this morning of course of the signing of Daniel Aquino for Chelsea. More on that later...
15:00: And we're off here at Wembley Stadium, to the sound of 80,000 happy fans on the first day of the football calender.
15:11: The first real chance of the game falls to Valencia who hits a swerving 25 yard effort, but Cech gets a strong hand to push it out for a corner, which is comfortably collected.
15:28: Some nice build up play opens up space for Lampard to have a shot, but Foster can save comfortably.
15:39: Park Ji-Sung counters nicely down the left hand side before chipping in to Berbatov, but his header goes well over.
15:43: Ohhh that should have been a goal. Chelsea produce some nice build up play, and Drogba has a pop from 30 yards. Foster manages to get a hand on it, but the rebound falls to Anelka who blasts wide when really it was easier to score.
15:47: GOAL Chelsea 1 - 0 Man Utd Right on the stroke of half-time, and it's probably deserved. Cole takes a throw in into Lampard, who plays in Anelka in the box. He takes a shot but it is deflected and Drogba comes round to tuck in from 6 yards.
HALF TIME
16:04:
The second half kicks off here at Wembley
16:15: Ohh the handbags are out as the tackles fly. Chelsea are holding onto the ball, and Fletcher lashes out in frustration, and earns himself a yellow card.
16:31: Ladies and Gentlemen, please welcome Joe Cole back to the scene after 6 months out with injury. He comes on for Deco.
16:43: GOAL Chelsea 1 - 1 Man Utd So late in the game! With 2 minutes to go, Ryan Giggs splits the Chelsea defence for Dimitar Berbatov to slot past Petr Cech. They are all adamant it was offside, and they may have a point. We could be going to penalties here...
16:47: Michael Ballack comes on for John Obi Mikel.
FULL TIME Chelsea 1 - 1 Man Utd

CHELSEA WIN CHARITY SHIELD 2009

17:15:
So there it is, Sam Illyroy claims his first trophy as Chelsea manager, and it was probably deserved, as Berbatov's goal was a little dubious. See you next weekend for the first game of the league season.

Drogba seals Illyroy's first piece of silverware with the winning penalty.

DIDIER DROGBA OUT FOR 3 WEEKS

3 days before the beginning of the season, Didier Drogba has a twisted ankle on international duty against Tunisia. This rules him out of the Fulham game at the weekend and for the next 3 games afterwards. Time will tell how big a blow this is for Chelsea's short term ambitions.

Nice layout and signings, take a look at JP Woody's Mourinho tactic they worked brilliantly for me as Chelsea

Unlucky about the drogba injury, congrats on winning the community shield

you should sign sergio ramos as a right back is better than boswinga but if you want a prospect then get davide santon good story i will be following

---------- Post added at 09:53 AM ---------- Previous post was at 09:52 AM ----------

you should also sign jesus navas he is quality for my chelsea game 23 games 12 goals and 13 assists

I doubt he would get Sergio Ramos for less than £50 million, just concentrate on youth now as you have a strong first team already

Chelsea 3 - 0 Fulham

Chelsea got the season off to a flyer at Stamford Bridge today. After his impressive performance in the Charity Shield, Fulham felt they could smell an upset with Drogba out. But his replacement really showed what he can do.

Things got off to a slow start, with Fulham dominating for the opening 10 minutes, playing some nice passing football. Dempsey had the first real opening, but his shot was comfortably saved by Petr Cech

It took 40 minutes to get the game off and running, and it was a nicely worked Chelsea goal. Frank Lampard and Nicolas Anelka exchanged passes on the edge of the Fulham box before the latter swung in a beautiful ball for Demba Ba to flick in off the post. It was his first goal in English football and he'll be hoping for more.

But things were then marred by a serious injury to Jose Bosingwa. His replacement Ivanovic created the second goal, swinging in a glorious cross for Ashley Cole to beat his man and head past a stranded Mark Schwarzer.

In the second half, Fulham came out fighting, and had a couple of half chances, but John Terry and Ricardo Carvalho were very impressive at the back. With 70 minutes on the clock, Sam Illyroy brought off Deco for Florent Malouda to play in the hole behind the strikers, and he showed what a he could do with a brilliant left footed shot from 25 yards to seal the game impressively.

It's a fantastic start for Chelsea, and very encouraging that Demba Ba managed to get his first goal.

Chelsea: Cech, Bosingwa (Ivanovic 42), A. Cole, Carvalho, Terry, Mikel, Essien (Ballack 89), Lampard, Deco (Malouda 68), Anelka, Ba
Unused subs: Hilario, Rodwell, J. Cole, Kalou
Fulham: Schwarzer, Kelly, Konchesky, Hangeland, Hughes, Dempsey, Kamara (Nevland 75), Etuhu (Pantsil 45), Murphy, Elm (Omosuzi 66), Johnson
Unused subs: Zuberbuhler, Greening, Minev, Stoor

thanks for the input guys :)
I'm playing a 4-1-2-1-2 formation, similar to Ancelotti; for that reason I think Davide Santon might not be a bad idea as back-up to Bosingwa, although I quite like to play Ivanovic in that role too.

The next match (Portsmouth vs. Chelsea) is a televised match.

JOHN TERRY OUT FOR 2-3 MONTHS

Chelsea have suffered a blow today, with John Terry going down in training with a torn hamstring. It may prove to be a critical blow to their ambitions so early in the season.

uh-oh is the market still open? If it is I would try and get Gabriel Milito on loan for a few months, but you have been very unlucky with the injuries

Chelsea vs. Portsmouth
Stamford Bridge, London
FA Premier League, 17:30 KO

17:10: Welcome to Stamford Bridge for the evening kick off and it's just starting to rain here tonight as Chelsea's squad list comes through:
Chelsea: Cech, Ivanovic, A. Cole, Alex, Carvalho, Mikel, Lampard, Essien, Deco, Ba, Anelka
17:13: The injured John Terry and Jose Bosingwa both make way as the only changes for Ivanovic and Alex.
17:30: And we're underway in West London
17:41: GOAL Chelsea 1 - 0 Portsmouth Well that didn't take long did it? The Blues get their noses in front after a brilliant through ball from Deco finds Nicolas Anelka who slots into the far corner for his first goal of the season.
17:46: And Chelsea are dominating now, taking the game to Portsmouth. Lampard has a shot saved, and the ball is played straight back in, only for Anelka to miss. Good opportunity that.
17:58: Chelsea spurn another opportunity. Deco, who has been brilliant in this first half an hour, finds Ashley Cole down the left wing who plays a brilliant ball across, but Ba can't get his head under it.
18:03: Now that's not good. Chelsea are forced into making a substitution as Mikel becomes the latest player to get injured. Makelele makes his return to Stamford Bridge a bit earlier than the manager may have hoped.
18:12: Portsmouth aren't giving up that easily. Van den Borre plays in a delightful corner and Kaboul charges into the box only to head just over. I think it might have clipped the bar on the way over!
18:16: HALF TIME Chelsea 1 - 0 Portsmouth That's half-time then
18:30: We're back underway for the second half.
18:36: Chelsea are still giving it some, but are simply wasting their opportunities.
18:39: Ohhhh what a chance. That does epitimize it. Makelele chips a beautiful ball over the top of the Portsmouth defence to Demba Ba, and he chests it down beautifully, only to scuff it wide.
18:45: RED CARD Well where did that come from? I'm not sure that was a red card personally. Papa Bouba Diop loses possession in Chelsea's half, and goes in slightly late on Ivanovic, who in fact tries to play on, but the referee has other ideas and that's surely game for Portsmouth now.
18:57: Chelsea bring Nicolas Anelka off for Kalou.
19:03: Nothing going on here now, Chelsea are keeping possession but not getting anywhere.
19:07: Oh a brilliant chance for 2-0. Lampards shot is parried wide right, and Ivanovic picks it up, only to smash it against the near post. Unlucky.
19:13: Joe Cole comes on for Deco.
19:17: FULL TIME Chelsea 1 - 0 Portsmouth That's it then, and it's another 3 points for Chelsea, but it comes at a price, and that price is John Obi Mikel.

I don't think I'm going to worry about bringing in another centre-back, even on loan. I have faith in Ivanovic, Alex, Carvalho and Bruma for now. If I lost another, I am looking at bringing in Olof Mellberg on loan maybe.

Yeah I'm willing to wait a few seasons now.
I've just Ba, so I want a new CM, a new DM and a RB
Right back will be second choice, so maybe an accomplished but cheap signing.
I want a young defensive mid, although I think I'm going for Jack Rodwell
and I would like another accomplished, but not too expensive centre mid :)
Thanks for commenting mate.
sign michael chretien he is a good solid right back

nice spot!
I'm getting my scouts on him now.

---------- Post added at 11:04 AM ---------- Previous post was at 11:02 AM ----------

Ouch, they want 7.25m for him. Need something cheaper than that for a back-up. Cheers anyway mate.

UEFA Champions League Group Stage Draw
uefa-champions-league-logo_normal.jpg

Chelsea were handed a relatively easy group for the Champions League Group today, with Sporting Lisbon of Portugal, AZ Alkmaar, the Dutch champions and FC Zurich the contenders in Group E.

Elsewhere, Manchester United drew Inter Milan in Group C, and Olympique Marseille. Liverpool face Porto, Rangers and Standard, whereas Arsenal face Juventus, Wolfsburg and Olympiakos - not an easy group.
