Arsène Wenger said:

“We would like to thank Gael for eight years of terrific service to Arsenal, during which time he gave absolutely everything for the Club. He has grown and developed so much since joining us in 2003, and has been a crucial part of the team over recent seasons. Gael leaves with our respect and best wishes. We wish him the very best for his future career.”

Gael said:

“I have had eight fantastic years at Arsenal and made many friends. I have so many great memories from my time at Highbury and Emirates Stadium. I would like to say thank you to everyone at Arsenal for all of their support and friendship. I also want to send a big thank you to all the Arsenal supporters, who have always been so good to me.”

I'm a Wolves fan, and i think Clichy is a very good Left Back, and was hoping he would say and maybe we could get Gibbs on Loan, but looks like Gibbs will be the starter now!

Good luck? Do not believe the tripe about he done it to have a better chance of achieving silverware. He has done it to get a bigger pay cheque and more money. Although I am a United fan I have got to say that I am happy about this though, because maybe Wenger might Gibbs a go. He has the potential to be better than Clichy.

What evidence do you have to back that up? He wanted a new challenge, he had a year left on his contract (we didn't offer him a new one) - Man City bid, he accepted their offer. Who cares if he's getting more money? - he wasn't getting a new contract with us and didn't turn anyone else down.

He's been a model professional and I wish all the best to him.

Lies, he's the new Cashley Cole! Gael Cashy sounds cool btw.

Cole joined a better club (which we haved proved in the 5 years) and Clichy is possibly doing the same.

If i was an Arsenal fan i would be very happy indeed. First of all the take Toure and Adebayor off them for stupid ammounts of money and now they take someone who i think is pretty poor and is not much if at all better than Kolarov.

Actually, Cole won more in 5 seasons at Arsenal than he has in 5 seasons at Chelsea - but meh.

But he would have won nothing more if he stayed. Also this is mainly for Joss because i know you only saw this on the Chelsea discussion thread by him, Cole played 6 full seasons at Arsenal and only 5 so far at Chelsea. So basicly one trophy will level it or 2 will surpass it.

No, saw it RT'd on Twitter this morning by someone else. It's clearly been doing the rounds though lol..

Who's to say that Chelsea will win anything next season though? ;)

Of corse there are no guarentees but surely it would be fairer to judge once he has played the same ammount for both sides.

Tbf, I said in 5 years with Arsenal he won more than he did in 5 years with Chelsea. Considering the 6th season he didn't win anything at Arsenal - he was more successful at Arsenal than he was at Chelsea.

What's Ashley Cole (or Chelsea) got to do with the confirmed transfers thread?

From what I've heard he wasn't willing to enter talks regarding a new contract.
