This is the best story on the site. I really enjoy reading and thanks for the downloads mate. :D

Fantastic story mate! Hope that you can continue the great progress that you have made. Great signing of Arshavin too, major coup!

Warning: if you haven't yet, but do intend on watching the Rubin v Zenit St Petersburg game attached in my previous post (#257) then look away now! The following post contains spoiler information that may have an adverse effect on your viewing pleasure!

Riding high in the league Rubin Kazan produced a good display this evening to see off the challenge of Shinnik Yaroslavl at Shinnik. Rubin had a number of attempts at goal but poor finishing meant they didn't score as many as they would have liked, but as their manager observed after the game “a win’s a win!”
The game’s only goal was scored by rangy striker Lacina Traoré in the 14th minute, a well struck effort from just inside the area coming after a display of pass and move by the Rubin players.

won 1-0 v Ural (Home)
± Arshavin (31)

Rubin Kazan showed their superiority in a 1 - 0 victory over Ural Yekaterinburg, but once again they could have, and should have, scored more.
Rubin covered a lot of ground but also conceded far too many fouls, meaning their effort was often for nothing. On 31 minutes Lacina Troare picked out Andrey Arshavin in the Ural penalty box and he rounded the keeper before scoring. Rubin also saw a 77th minute strike questionably chalked off.

won 2-1 v Locomotiv Moscow (Away)
± Acosta (9), Obasi og (90+2)
 Galimov, Grigalava, Belorukov, Drincic
« Acosta (7.5)

Rubin maintained their 100% record in the Russian Premier League with a deserved 2-1 victory over Lokomotiv Moscow on a fine spring evening in Moscow.
Nigerian centre-back Chukwudi Obasi got Lokomotiv Moscow off to an absolute flyer scoring with a fine header on 5 minutes. But it only took 4 minutes for Rubin to find the equaliser when striker Mario Acosta lost his marker and found the net in the 9th minute with a powerful effort.
The action was end to end as both teams attacked with abandon, Rubin perhaps edged their opponents and got the goal their efforts deserved deep in injury time. Under pressure from David Nugent, Locomotiv’s Chukwudi Obasi put the ball past his own goalkeeper.

2-1 v Locomotiv Moscow (Home)
± Shubin (69), Traore (90+2)
 Shubin
« Vinicus (7.4)
% Russian Cup Quarter Final
Locomotiv Moscow and Rubin Kazan faced each other for the second time in 5 days, previously in the league and today in the Russian Cup quarter finals. And just like the first game Rubin came away winners following an injury time goal.
Rubin drew first blood when midfielder Vladimir Shubin scored with a thunderous freekick on 68 minutes. Midfielder Mihai Răduţ then equalised for Lokomotiv Moscow in the 88th minute and the game looked set for extra time.
But Rubin substitute Lacina Traore had other ideas and, as the Locomotiv players failed to deal with a Dmitry Tarasov cross, he popped up to slam the loose ball home.

Clash of the titans...
Rubin Kazan are flying high in the league with a maximum number of points. They have played 5 games and they have won 5 games, scoring a total of 11 goals and conceding only two. But now their title winning credentials are to be truly tested as they face CSKA Moscow, winners of the Russian Premier League in the past five consecutive seasons.

The two managers have spiced up the contest by exchanging words in the build up to the game. Hristo Stoichkov, the CSKA boss, confidently stated “we will beat Rubin for sure! We are simply the best team in Russia!”
In reply Rubin manager Dan Lake said “If CSKA are the best team in Russia then they are the team that we have to beat to win the title! Bring them on!”

The game is due to be televised on the “no-pay-per-view” channel, Saturday 19th April 2014.

It's weird, you were so attached to one team at the start but then you moved on to Rubin.

Nice Job, hop you win the league, or eventually take over CSKA, although your fans may not like it.

LOL

Managing U Cluj was great fun, but the concept behind the story was to build my reputation and improve my prospects in one part of the continent. It's a story about my time as a manager in East Europe rather than one about taking a single team to the top. On that score I felt I had done all I could at little U Cluj. :)

Glad you're enjoying it bud, not sure that I'll ever manage another team here in Russia but who knows where the story will lead me... that's the fun of it! Thanks for your support.

won 4-0 v Nosta (Away)

Rubin Kazan fans celebrated an emphatic 4 - 0 win at Metallurg this afternoon. Rubin captain Nikola Drincic gave Rubin the lead in the 32nd minute with a freekick that dipped over the Nosta wall. Argentine striker Mario Acosta then doubled Rubin's lead with a real poacher's effort on 35 minutes. Alan Kasaev then benefited from Fedor ****'kov’s missed interception to thump the ball past a helpless keeper. Nikola Drincic was sent off for his second bookable offence with 10 minutes remaining but this did not stop Rubin adding a fourth from Andrey Arshavin’s strike in the 83rd minute.

won 2-0 v FC Moscow (Home)
± Bukharov (26), Putsilo (75)
 Shubin
« Bukharov (7.4)

Rubin dominated this match against manager Dan Lake’s former team. Alexandr Bukharov was only on today’s teamsheet because of injuries to Eduardo Oviedo and Lacina Traore but he made the most of his opportunity on 26 minutes, running onto Mario Acosta’s pass and finishing from close range. That lead was doubled on 75 minutes when Andrey Arshavin sent forward a hopeful ball and Anton Putsilo scored with a diving header.

won 3-2 v CSKA Moscow (Home)

% Russian Cup Semi Final
CSKA were out for revenge this afternoon after tasting defeat in their last visit to Central. But it was Rubin Kazan who won again in a hard fought battle. After 22 minutes Rubin ‘keeper Vladimir Perfiljev made an acrobatic save to deny Victor Djakov saved but could do nothing to stop Modibo Maïga’s powerful shot from the rebound. Rubin striker Alexandr Bukharov then equalised for Rubin in the 42nd minute with a powerful effort from the edge of the area. With the last kick of the first half Rubin’s Brazilian centre-back Marcus Vinícius scored from Nikola Drincic’s corner.
Christophe Berra, who had been at fault for Vinicus’ goal compounded his misery by scoring an embarrassing own-goal on 72 minutes. There was time for CSKA to make it 3-2 when Ouwo Moussa Maâzou powered past the Rubin defenders to score in the 78th minute but they were unable to get that all important equaliser.

won 2-0 v Krylja Sovetov (Away)
± Bukharov (45+2), Belorukov (69)
 Belorukov
« Perfiljev (8.3)
1st
An efficient, if unexciting, performance from Rubin saw them run out 2-0 winners over fierce rivals Krylja Sovetov at Metallurg today. The first noteworthy incident of the match proved to be controversial, with Rubin seeing a goal disallowed. Rubin finally took the lead when striker Alexandr Bukharov scored a placed shot from close range on 45 minutes. Experienced centre-back Dmitry Belorukov added another on 68 minutes with a difficult header from a corner.

won 1-0 v Rostov (Home)
± Kasaev (55)
 Bukharov (20)
« Kasaev (7.6)

Rubin Kazan produced a good display this afternoon to see off the challenge of FC Rostov at Central. Rubin were often prevented from playing as they wanted to due to the number of fouls committed by their enthusiastic opponents.
Striker Alexandr Bukharov saw red card for a vicious lunge on 20 minutes and Rubin's position was put under question when Krylja were awarded a penalty in the 35 minute. Sergey Leontjev put his spotkick straight down the middle allowing Vladimir Perfiljev to make a good save. But the 10 men of Rubin did take the lead on 55 minutes when captain for the day Alan Kasaev got his boot on the end of a low cross.

won 2-0 v Spartak Nalchik (Home)
± Arshavin (32, 45+3)
 Galimov, Belorukov, Shubin, Kasaev
« Arshavin (8.7)
1st
A man of the match performance from Andrey Arshavin gave Rubin a comfortable win against Spartak Nalchik this afternoon. Arshavin was given far too much space by Nalchik and this proved dangerous as he finished the match with two goals. The first, on 32 minutes, was a well placed shot to beat the goalkeeper at his near post. The second came in injury time during the first half, a sublime rising shot from the edge of the 18 yard box.

won 2-0 v Amkar (Away)
± Arshavin (53), Putsilo (86)
 Belorukov, Kasaev
« Drincic (7.5)
1st
Rubin Kazan enjoyed near total domination over a distinctly average Amkar Perm side at Zvezda this evening. They didn’t take the lead until the 53rd minute, however, as Andrey Arshavin scored from Vladimir Shubin’s through ball. The goal looked offside but after consulting his linesman the referee allowed it to stand. Midfielder Anton Putsilo completed the scoring, smashing home a loose ball in the 86th minute.

Rubin, Rubin, Rubin... and do ya, do ya, do ya...
Rubin’s rise to the top of the pile has been the story of the 2014 season so far, having won all of their 12 games they sit top four points clear of nearest rivals Spartak Moscow. This Rubin side combine free-flowing attacking play with steely defending and this has seen them score 25 goals whilst conceding only two.

View attachment 32383
In a recent press conference manager Dan Lake said of his team “they have been absolutely awesome and will certainly have made a few people sit up and take notice. There is such a long way to go, and the players need to stay focused on the task in hand, but they have given themselves the best platform possible.”

The team have also reached the final of the Russian Cup, a competition they have never won. On Sunday they will face Zenit St Petersburg and may collect the first half of a historic Russian double.

Absolutely brilliant stuff mate, keep it up.

Your having an amazing season Dan, great win against CSKA, to concede two goals in 12 matches is fantastic, the best teams are always built from the back ;)
