Hartley Honeymoon Here to Stay??
Everton fans would be forgiven for pinching themselves following their amazing start to the season under new boss Paul Hartley. Despite the many doubters (*cough* Josh *cough*) the team has started the season on fire and will have many a more fancied team now looking over their shoulders.
An undefeated preseason appeared to be mainly the product of an easy slate.

However that form has carried over into the season. In fact, they might even feel aggrieved to have not taken maximum points from both Premiership games thus far. Despite leading comfortably at Anfield 3-1 with under half an hour to play they conspired to concede 2 late goals to only draw the match. New loanees Oliver and Gerson with bright spots getting on the scoresheet but it was the play of Giannis Maniatis, a free transfer arranged last season by the outgoing Harry Rednapp, who was the best on field.

Their next game saw them welcome Stoke to Goodison park and despite some Balotelli magic the Toffees were able to secure all 3 points thanks to 2 goals and a man of the match performance from new boy Patrick Roberts.

The final match of the month saw Everton take on Burnley in the Capital One Cup. In what turned out to be a reasonably tense affair Everton ran out 2-1 winners thanks to Roberts and Powell. Gerson though was the one pulling all the strings here being named man of the match.

2 wins from 3 then to open the campaign and a credible away draw at Liverpool. Hartley appears to have the Toffees all on the same page, Chairman Howard Kendall though refused to commit long term to the Scot rather choosing to focus on his somewhat perplexing preference for starting Harry Bunn up front over Shane Long. "I mean they are very similar players and Bunn is decent depth to have around but he does nothing, I mean not a single thing, better than Long. He's a smaller, slower, less skilled version of Shane and Paul better hope playing him doesn't end up costing us too many points.
Sky Sport's Player of the month for Everton for August was awarded to Jonny Evans. Despite most of the plaudits going to youngsters Roberts and Gerson the club captain has been rock solid at the back.

The Club has also made some headway with reducing their roster size offloading 4 players towards the end of the window.

Man City Update
Two games into the season one win and one draw despite a decent pre-season we havent exactly set the world alight.
2-1 win against West ham with aguero and silva scoring is a decent start to the season while a 1-1 draw with Leicester with Kovacic hitting the net is disappointing.
Injuries to Nasri, Kompany and Schnedierlin aren't ideal but Otamendi and Kovacic have played well in their two games so far only time will tell if they can keep up their form.

Spurs August Update
A really good month for Spurs this month. We had arguably the toughest fixture list in the premiership this month, with more games to play than any other team on the premiership with six games in total, with two in the premiership and four in Europa League qualifying, and the two premiership games were against two of the "top four" teams, playing Chelsea in the first week and Manchester United in the second. I'll cover premiership first, then Europa League.
Premiership
Two very tough games, but good results I think. Our first game was a 2-1 defeat away to Chelsea at Stamford Bridge, Kevin Mirallas getting the goal for us. Then we stayed at home for our second and beat Manchester United comfortably, the game finishing 3-1 to Spurs. Kane and talented youngster Dele Alli scored the goals for us, as well as a goal from new boy Samuel Umtiti. Next month will be tough as well, with two of our four games away to fellow Europe League spot contenders Liverpool and Newcastle
Europa League
Two rounds here, and let's face it, four easy games. We didn't concede a single goal and scored 16. In our first qualifying round we played Belgian side KV Mechelen. We started away with a 5-0 win, Erik Lamela picking up two goals and Memphis Depay bagging a hat trick. We then entertained them at White Hart Lane, getting a 4-0 win with Lamela picking up another goal against them, as well as Fazio scoring a penalty, Kane and his new competition Ayoze Perez both bagging goals.
We then played Danish side AaB. Like KV we first played them away from home, winning 4-0. Umtiti and Goretzka scored either side of a brace from Harry Kane. We then played them at home, winning 3-0 with goals from Ayoze Perez, Dele Alli and Memphis Depay.
The Positives
Lots of positives in August. We managed to keep hold of key players in the transfer window for one. We also managed a win against Manchester United, and a fantastic European qualifying campaign. Then there was the player performances. Saul and Ayoze Perez got off to solid starts for us, with Samuel Umtiti playing fantastically. Then there was Kane who has got four goals in five games, the competition brought in by Perez is paying off so far. And finally a huge mention to Leon Goretzka. He was the subject of a £20m deadline day bid from Manchester United which we turned down, and so far it is paying off. He has an average rating of 7.85 from six games, getting a goal and four assists in those games. Also, Hugo Lloris is back from injury.
The Negatives
The loss to Chelsea is of course a negative, but a close 2-1 loss against a. Top four team is not a terrible result. Small injuries to Adam Lallana and Erik Lamela as well, but not likely to hamper the team at all.
Player of the Month
This goes to Samuel Umtiti. The new signing has played fantastic so far. Four appearances, one goal, one assist, one Man of the Match award and an average rating of 8.68. He's looking to be a very good signing for the club.

in future months I will also be doing a young player of the month, which will be the best player ages 23 or under. However, whenever the player that wins player of the month is in that category (Umtiti is 23) then I obviously won't do that award.

Not the most auspicious of starts for the Swans, losing narrowly at Newcastle and following that up by a poor draw at home to Wolves. The Capital One Cup provided an opportunity for a morale-boosting win, and a comfortable 3-0 victory over Exeter saw the Swans safely through to the next round.
This followed from some questionable business in the transfer market from manager David O'Leary. After club owner Zlatan Ibrahimovic handed him the reigns, O'Leary promptly sold on a number of players, including what appears to be the most ridiculous of sales - Adam Maher departing to Lokomotiv Moscow for just 155k. This sees the Swans depth depleted further for little to no return, and they lose a potential future star as well. Strangely, O'Leary continued to trim the squad, with many fringe players departing for nominal fees, and many prospects were either sold or loaned out, as the squad depth (or should that be dearth?) continued to be whittled down. The only incoming deal was a loan agreement for Tottenham's Kyle Walker-Peters, who became the fourth fullback to join in the transfer window.
The month was not a complete disaster however, with the brightest beacon of hope coming from an unlikely source in 17 year old French striker Niane Toure. Brought in by Ibrahimovic for 1.5m earlier in the window, the youngster was understandably seen as one for the future, and was not expected to make much of an impact. On the contrary, the wonderkid has exploded out of the blocks, coming off the bench to net a goal in each of the first two league fixtures, before being awarded a start in the League Cup, where he once again got himself on the scoreboard. Early days, but don't be surprised if you hear a great deal more about young Niane Toure over the next few months and years.
Another new signing in Marcos Rocha has also stood out, the Brazilian fullback starting all three fixtures so far, and providing his team mates with two assists whilst remaining responsible at the back.
Unfortunately, centre back Erik Sviatchenko, signed by Ibrahimovic over the summer for 3m from Liverpool, in order to provide a quality alternative to the ageing Phil Jagielka and Federico Fernandez, has not been so lucky. Making his first appearance for the club in the League Cup, the unfortunate Dane tore his hamstring, ruling him out for three months. It remains to be seen how Swansea will cope with the heavy demands placed upon their first choice centre back pairing, as the lack of depth behind Sviatchenko could leave them horribly exposed as fatigue sets in over the coming months.

Southampton Aug Overview
To start of the saint's season, we faced Sunderland. Jay Rodriguez - a goal scoring machine after recovering from his injury a couple of seasons ago - scored the only goal, however I was disappointed that Naby Keita was sent off a couple of minutes later.
Facing West Brom in the league next, Rodriguez continued his goalscoring form with one, but it was new boy Zivkovic with a brace who impressed the most. They only managed to get one back through a penalty, which Lavezzi slotted away. I'm disappointed that in our first two games we've had a sending off and a penalty going against us.
Finally, we came up against Wigan in the Capital One Cup. Keita redeemed himself somewhat for that earlier red card with a goal, however on loan Manchester United player Mitchell scored a minute after. Sadio Mane and Pablo Osvaldo both scored afterwards to give us a comfortable victory.

Gerhardt from Koln is our biggest signing so far and is expected to deliver for us. Illarramendi joins on loan but he's not helping at all. The rest drop into the u19 team

With so much quality this is just a experiment at £250k we cant go wrong.
Transfer Out
Myself and Didier managed to cut some of the fat. Lorenzo Crisetig, Lamine Sane & Marc Muniesa were not getting 1st team action and moved on for £4m total. Our star sale this summer was Emanuel Mammama to Tottenham for £10m this summer with a further £10m coming next summer. We managed to get rid of Stephen Ireland & Charlie Adam both on a free just before the window closed.

Its not been pretty. Munoz has thrived at the back while Unal has led the frntline. Still waiting for Sanabria & Rhodes to score. We lost both games 2-1. We played well and deserved at least a point from the West Brom opener. Everton were the better side at Gooderson and all we have to show from August is a cup win to Championship Charlton. Much better expected in September.
