Are you honestly trying to tell me Christmas has an ounce of Christianity left in it? ****, even non-atheists celebrate Christmas in the non-Christian sense.

'Christ''mas' clues in the name theres an ounce for ya. Admit christmas began life as a pagan festival long ago till christianity overtook it but since then its been a Christian festival which is clearly reflected in the name. My muslim cousin celebrates christmas but he refuses to call it christmas and gives it a different name which is fair enough. Christmas defines Christianity, but all you fat little arses are in it for is the presents to sponge off of your parents and don't deny it. For me Christmas is about sharing and the atmosphere and the bible is all about sharing.

And I was stating that the religious meaning has been lost, I never denied the origins. If you want to celebrate it for religious reasons, fine. I'll continue to celebrate it because it has become deeply ingrained in society and is traditional, there's no need to get so aggressive over the fact the meaning has changed though.

According to the poll, there's someone who is religious and isn't a Santaist.

BURN THE HERETIC

The religous meaning hasnt been lost. There's just more athiests, times move on and so do beliefs with culture/media. Its just irritating when so called athiests use the name of christian festivals and celebrate but at the same time mock.

Ajt09 im not prejudging and im not preaching im not christian, but why do you have to use christmas as a poor excuse for 'good' family time.

And godcubed what are you on about with religion and santa, santa existed get over it, he was introduced as an example into the modern Christmas couple of centuries ago.

St. Nicholas existed. Go read the "Do you believe in God" thread and you'll see why the Santa Claus that travels around the world delivering presents to every child, could also possibly exist, and why this thread exists too.

Its not an excuse, its the only time we can properly get together, because for some stupid reason (not including me and the other half) there is nothing but fighting, arguing, kids doing stupid things with "medicines"....it's the only time of year when everyone is civil, nice and has fun together. Then after, it's back to square one again. And I have no idea why. And this was happening before I came on the scene. Aswell as other factors.

Apologies for the aggressiveness. Just sounded like you were implying I just enjoyed christmas for getting stuff I really wanted, but didn't need when it's far from the case. Just want a stable family environment. Apologies again. Moved on from that now.

No I didn't, you used it in a different context.

I'd commit acts of mass murder to be recorded through history for the love of Santa.

Santa travelling round the world doesnt exist and stop posting moronic posts im not going to bother reading through that as i know its going to be moronic as most threads like that are.

Saint Nicholas of Myra is the primary inspiration for the Christian figure of Sinterklaas. He was a 4th century Greek Christian bishop of Myra (now Demre) in Lycia, a province of the Byzantine Anatolia, now in Turkey. Nicholas was famous for his generous gifts to the poor, in particular presenting the three impoverished daughters of a pious Christian with dowries so that they would not have to become prostitutes.[8] He was very religious from an early age and devoted his life entirely to Christianity. In Europe (more precisely the Netherlands, Belgium, Austria and Germany) he is still portrayed as a bearded bishop in canonical robes. In 1087, the Italian city of Bari, wanting to enter the profitable pilgrimage industry of the times, mounted an expedition to locate the tomb of the Christian Saint and procure his remains. The reliquary of St. Nicholas was desecrated by Italian sailors and the spoils, including his relics, taken to Bari[9][10] where they are kept to this day. A basilica was constructed the same year to store the loot and the area became a pilgrimage site for the devout, thus justifying the economic cost of the expedition. Saint Nicholas was later claimed as a patron saint of many diverse groups, from archers, sailors, and children to pawnbrokers.[8][11] He is also the patron saint of both Amsterdam and Moscow.[12]

So please if you are to participate in religious festivals and use religious terms either be a part of that religion or jog on you hypocritical fool.

I see the modern day Christmas as a commercialised festival, and I'll participate in it as an Atheist until the day I die. Shoot me.

I'm going to write a huge book on Santa, want to co-write it with me, so when people question contradictions other Santaist's can just say it was an error in communication!
