England 2018 World Cup Bid Update Thread

I said finding holes in FIFA was pointless, not the team. :)

Yeah we'd prove a point but really, how many would follow suite? How long would it take for people to just forget about the whole thing as carry on as normal? Dropping out does nothing and like you said, if there really is any 'conspiracy' against us, it's playing into they're hands.

yeah waste of time, come this time in 2012, we'll be back to moaning about how we breezed through qualifying and didn't show any determination in Ukraine at the Euros. Back to normality after tomorrows papers.

It's just the way our nation is.

Nothing but it was only in that neck of the woods in 2002.

Austrailia would have been the best bet, especially after the Olympics there.

Besides, in all fairness, Iran will have probably kicked of by 2022 and Qatar will probably be a scorch mark on a map.

Japan were going to develop some absolutely phenomenal technology for the World Cup, will see if I can find a link for it.

Remember the 2014 WC staged in Brazil anyone going to that?

No, it's not a money issue but if FIFA are so insistent on holding tournaments in third world or corrupt countries then i'm not going out of principal. Plus, Modern Warfare 2 taught me to stay away from the Favelas :D

I hope for Sunderlands sake they produce this, then they can watch some decent footy at the stadium of ***** ;)

Qatar should develop this, to go with their flat pack stadiums and general lack of space.

AND, if this was developed we could just mug off the world cup and host it anywhere and still watch it at Wembley :p

Not all Scots are bitter everyone ;). Quite gutted England didn't get it though, could have popped along for a game.

Yeah, it'd be quite spectacular to have anyway.

Again, you've shown the English arrogance the rest of the world dislikes you for. Suddenly because you didn't get to host a WC (a shame, I know, I wanted you to win so the WC was right on my doorstep) and suddenly any Scot with an opinion is either bitter, jealous or twisted. Cheers, guys, glad to see that world famous English tolerance shine through again.

Blatter said before they announced the WC in South Africa that he would try and bridge to other areas of the world, hence South Africa, Brazil, Russia and Qatar.

England's bid was snubbed, mainly due to the fact that journalists tried to tear apart the whole committee.
To go out in the first round just shows how many people on that voting panel really cared about the 'perfect' England bid.

Let's face it, we are English, and we should be used to going out in the first round of tournaments.

whatta ******* joke, how much have Russia paid you Sepp?
he said himself our bid was the best, so what the ****?
although, i think our big was too strong if i'm being honest, and our ******** media don't help.

would rather had spain/portugal or belgium/holland get it though tbh, rather visit there than Russia.
Interesting about Qatar, all their stadiums are going to be in a 60KM radius, and the stadia they want to build looks fantastic

I honestly wanted Spain & Portugal to win it, 30 minutes from 2 of the stadia, 45 minutes from La Manga, one of the best training facilities on the planet.

Either way, England didn't pay enough cash to Blatter and co. Russia probably gave them 25% of the Siberian Tundra.

While Blatter is at the helm of FIFA and Platini is at UEFA we'll probably never host a tournament at the moment. Too many Anti-English tendencies on the committee. But this does show the need for change. Why should 22 or 24 of Blatter's cronies have the deciding vote ?

Don't know how many know, but Blatter has been accused of Bribery not long after taking the FIFA job -
HERE

Anti-English tendencies... Lol.

Of course, EVERYONE hates you...

Personally, I would have prefered the WC to be hosted in Spain or England as it is closer to where I live. Having said this, its always nice to see a new country hosting a WC. Who should deserve it? Thats a very subjective question. Anyone would claim that their country should host it. In Spain, they are crying, claiming briberies and saying that Russia and Qatar are a joke. Russia is not a joke, they have 8 years to prepare and I am sure they will do an amazing event. As per Qatar with all their money, I am sure that there will be some amazing stadiums as well. Now, personally again, I dont see the use of all those stadiums in Qatar after the WC. Anyone? But then again, its their money. I am sure that China would have benefited a lot more from a WC than Qatar. Well, they have announced their candidacy for 2026. Which means that due to continent rotation, 2030 could go to Africa or Concacaf. 2034 to South America/Concacaf, and only then in 2038 back to Europe. And in 2038, I am sure that Italy, England, Spain, France will put their candidacy on the table.

So, what I mean is, lets enjoy football, and wish all english fans good luck in their next candidacy(2038?). Maybe a UK+Ireland candidacy would be stronger (that would mean all 4 countries participate in the finals...lol... Anyway, again good luck next time. (From an Argentine!)

45mil Australian dollars = one vote.

Guess we might have needed to spend a couple of billion more.

Sky Sports News says that 2 of the voting delegates were interviewed in Zurich post vote and they both said that the Sunday Times article and BBC's Panorama killed any chance that England had of hosting the 2018 tournament. They both confirmed that Sepp Blatter stood up just before the vote and reminded everyone of what the British Media had done.

 So basically the best way to get the world cup, is to let FIFA corruption go on un-noticed, and not upset any of the FIFA family? I never normally swear on a forum, but FIFA are rotten, corrupt bastards (apologies for language), and the sooner we get out of it the better, unless there's major changes. And thanks to the BBC too - I can assure the BBC they will not get another penny from me either. They think they can use my money to wreck a world cup bid? They can go to ****. Yeah, I'm still livid. Sorry again for language

Looks to me like they used the 2 articles as an excuse to knock us out early so that Russia could go on and win easily. But who knows what goes on behind closed doors ?

Quote from SSN - Delegate interviewed post vote - "To have given England the 2018 World Cup would have been the final insult"

well it's well know Blatter has an issue with English football, but to pick Qatar above Australia, USA etc was just blatantly for commercial reasons. they struck gold with an oil rich state. FIFA has destroyed the beautiful game of football and just concentrates on commercialisation of the sport. They don't give a dam about football anymore, or football fans worldwide. Just how much money goes in their pockets. I don't know if i'll be able to bring myself to watch it anymore. They've ruined it for me and every true football fan.

Agreed 100%. And if it all goes **** up in Russia in 2018 and they come running to us asking if we can host it we should tell them to shove it up their arses XD
