Champions League Group Stages - 2027

Chelsea FC 2 - 3 FC Inter Turku

View attachment 356191

We get some revenge for Chelsea knocking us out of the Champions League at the 1st knockout round stage last year with a 3-2 victory at the Terry Stadium. We raced into a 2 goal lead early on through Scheweleff and Norris, but it looked like they had snatched a point late on. However, no sooner had Chelsea equalized had we gone down the other end and won it with a Drew Sterling header.

FC Inter Turku 4 -
2 Villerreal

View attachment 356189

We followed the victory over Chelsea with a win over the Spanish side, with 2 goals from centre back Rocco, one from striker Viljanen and one from Danny Norris from the spot.

FC Inter Turku 3 -
0 PSV Eindhoven

View attachment 356188

We're now 3 wins from 3 after 3 early goals (2 from Scheweleff and 1 from Robertson) in the first half gave us an easy win over the Dutch side.

PSV Eindhoven 1 - 6 FC Inter Turku

View attachment 356186

Our brilliant form, and especially goal scoring form, continues with a big win over the Dutch giants in Eindhoven. 2 goals a piece from Sterling and Scheweleff, as well as 1 from Robertson and another for Norris gave us the victory.

FC Inter Turku 4 -
2 Chelsea FC

View attachment 356185

Revenge against Chelsea is fully complete now after a second win against them in the group stages, with a hatrick from Viljanen and one from Argentine midfielder Garay securing the victory.

Villerreal 0 - 8 FC Inter Turku

View attachment 356184

We end a perfect group stage with our best performance of the lot, a crushing 8-0 victory over the Spanish side in their own stadium, capped off with a Markus Scheweleff hatrick.

Final Standings:

View attachment 356183

Probably our best ever group stage performance as this wasn't an easy group to be drawn in and to win 6 out of 6 games is a great effort. Also we kept up our league record of averaging scoring over 4 goals a game, which is great considering the quality of opponent. We've been rewarded with a fairly kind draw in the 1st knockout round against Sampadoria, who came through a group consisting of Man City, Besiktas and Maccabi Haifa with 9 points.

ROPS and IFK in Europa League:

View attachment 356182View attachment 356181

Both teams did ok, picking up 4 points from their 6 games. However, I do feel that whilst IFK slightly underperformed, ROPS did a great job in their difficult group, lead by new manager Frank de Boer!

A decent year for the Finnish national team, capped off by a playoff win over Norway in the 2028 European Championship's qualifiers on away goals. It should never have got that close as they won 3-1 at home in the 1st leg and then were 3-0 up in the first 10 minutes of the away leg, only to lose the game 5-3 and sneak through on aggregate.

Euro 2028 Qualifying Group:

Finland were unlucky to even need a playoff, as they finished 2nd behind Netherlands on h2h despite having the same points of them and a better goal difference.

Daym! You battered your group. On paper it looked like a really tough group as well..

1st Leg - Sampdoria 0 - 4 FC Inter Turku

View attachment 355671

For once we were actually able to carry our group stage form into the knockout rounds, as a massive 4-0 win away in Italy in the first leg sees us put one foot in the quarter final.

2nd Leg - FC Inter Turku 2 - 1 Sampdoria

View attachment 355668

There was no pressure on us in the 2nd leg, however we still put out our strongest team possible and won the game 2-1, with 2 goals from winger Scheweleff sending us through 6-1 on aggregate.

Quarter Final Draw:

View attachment 355666

Juventus actually aren't too bad of a draw at this stage of the competition. They are only sitting 6th in Serie A and scraped past Dynamo Kyiv in the previous round 1-0 on aggregate so we may actually have a chance of progressing into the semi finals for the first time ever!

Next update will be of our Champions League 1/4 final tie against Juventus...

I used to use the FMChris ones for most of the save, then changed to the one Lovano said at the start of this season, hence all the extra goals we've been scoring :D
Why is your tactic 433 but the ones in the link are 4231? have you tweaked it?

I used the FMChris 4-3-3 one for most of the save, then switched to the Steaton Total Annihilation v2 tactic at the start of the season I have just finished, which is a 4-2-3-1.

The only transfer news of note is that we let our 4th choice centre back leave for £1,500,000 and replaced him with a Finnish defender of a similar ability, Jussi Grohn for 600k. We also reduced the wage bill by letting a couple of ageing players go on a free, such as Brazilian winger Cesar and Aaron Ramsey.

League Cup:

View attachment 355656

We retain our League Cup and become 11 time winners of the competition. The only real shock here was that we lost a game during the group stages, 3-2 against HJK.

Champions League Quarter Final:

1st Leg - Juventus 2 - 2 FC Inter Turku

View attachment 355655

A great result away in Turin in the first leg as we twice fight from behind to draw the game 2-2, with a Markus Scheweleff penalty drawing us level with the last kick of the game.

2nd Leg - FC Inter Turku 1 - 1 Juventus (
FC Inter Turku win on away goals)

View attachment 355654

A record FC Inter Turku attendance of 21,396 saw the Finnish side progress to the Champions League semi final for the first time ever on the away goals rule. The two goals came early in the first half and we did have quite a few chances after that which we couldn't convert, making the last 10 minutes a lot more nervy than they should have been! Liverpool await us in the semi, whilst Dortmund play Barcelona in the other semi final. We do owe Liverpool one after they knocked us out in the Europa League semi final a few years back, so hopefully we can get our revenge here and book a place at the Stade de France for the final.

1st Leg - Liverpool 0 - 0 FC Inter Turku

View attachment 355630

Normally a 0-0 in the first leg of a semi final would represent a nervy, gritty affair but that wasn't the case here! Both sides had numerous chances to win the game but both keepers were in inspired form, especially Warren Barnes in the Turku goal. We'd only need a win in the 2nd leg at home to go through but I never feel comfortable without an away goal.

2nd Leg - FC Inter Turku 2 - 1 Liverpool

Champions League final here we come! The Stade de France will welcome small Finnish side FC Inter Turku for the Champions League final after goals from South Americans Rocco and Medel saw off Liverpool 2-1 in front of a record crowd of 23,579 people. Barcelona await in the final and although they will be massive favourites, we will give it our best shot and try to cause the upset.

Yes, FC Inter Turku are champions of Europe! A 2nd minute goal from winger Markus Scheweleff was enough to secure victory over the Spanish giants. We missed numerous chances after that in the first half but there wasn't one highlight in the 2nd half, which was fine with me!

Cheers mate, will be hard to retain next year but it just felt like everything came together this season and we got the bit of luck we needed through the knockout rounds. Hopefully this gives our reputation a nice boost and can help boost attendances so we can finally build a new stadium worthy of a Champions League winning team!

Good luck mate. Everything has come together for my team this season too, playing brilliantly. Doubt I'll ever get a chance to manage National Team, as current manager is a Bulgarian legend and is only 49 too!

We didn't let our Champions League excursions affect our domestic form as our backup players won every league game so far. Also, I've made a massive mistake in the Finnish Cup, allowing players to play the early rounds for our 'B' team to gain match fitness over the first couple of months of the year, which means like 3/4's of the squad are now cup tied for us. Luckily, we had two non-league sides so far, but it could get difficult against the top teams in our league. We now have a massive break whilst Finland play in the Euros.

Player Stats:

View attachment 355304

The Champions League winning goalscorer Scheweleff is quickly becoming my favourite player on this save, and is averaging a goal a game from the left wing so far this year.

League Table:

View attachment 355303

Suprisingly we don't lead the table going into the break, although it's only because we haven't played as many games. Frank de Boer's RoPS and Teemu Taino's IFK have both started well and took 22 points from 7 games.

Group Stage:

The group stages started with a hard fought 1-1 draw with Poland, with Inter Turku centre back Klingenberg bagging the equalizer. This was then followed by a tight 1-0 win over Turkey, with Inter Turku winger Tuomaala bagging his first ever international goal to win the game. Finally, they ended the group with a 2-0 defeat to eventual winners Italy at the Stadium of Light, which left Finland sneaking through in 2nd place.

A Scandanavian battle ended 1-1 after 90 minutes, but Finland managed to take them game 4-2 after extra time and get through to their first ever major tournament quarter final. All 4 Finnish goalscorers are products of the FC Inter Turku academy...

Quarter Final - Finland 0 - 3 Republic of Ireland

View attachment 355208

So the quarter finals were the end of a decent run for Finland, as Ireland took advantage of a tired Finland side by putting them to the side in the second half. Only bad news to come out of the tournament is the manager still hasn't retired, despite being 61 years old. Don't think he's ever going to retire XD

Next update will be a quick June and July update, with a bit of transfer news...

June and July 2028

View attachment 355198

Transfers:

View attachment 355197

So there's actually a lot of mid-season transfer news for once as we try to replace a couple of the ageing players in the squad whilst they still have their value. Firstly on the outgoings, we sold young Frenchman Zenati leaving for a huge £13,000,000 after joining on a free last year and being 3rd choice right winger. Then long time centre half Drew Sterling left for £5,000,000, also to Benfica. and club legend Robertson joined Galatasaray for £4,100,000. Sad to see Sterling and Robertson go but I thought I'd cash in while I could.

View attachment 355196View attachment 355195View attachment 355194

Onto the incomings, we brought in a Ukranian utility man on a free to fill Zenati's place in the squad. Then we went to Celtic to replace Sterling and Robertson with Rovira and Faccini for a combined fee of £17,500,000. Finally, we needed to replace Walter Arza (Backup left winger) as he is leaving on a bosman at the end of November, so we paid Stade Rennias £7,500,000 for young Spanish winger Eizmendi, who was described in the media as a wonderkid. Overall, we only spent a net £2,900,000 and improved the squad whilst also making it younger, so I'm pretty happy with our dealings.
