European Super Cup:

View attachment 355121

Following on from our first Champions League win, we've now managed to pick up our first ever European Super Cup after beating Arsenal 4-2 on penalties after a evenly contested 2-2 draw after extra time.

FC Inter Turku and IFK Mariehamn in Champions League:

View attachment 355120View attachment 355119

We've got a pretty competitive group but if we continue our form from last season then qualifying from the group shouldn't be a problem. IFK have greatly benefited from us winning the trophy last year, as they now pick up our Champions League group stage spot from winning the league and have been rewarded with as nice a group as you are likely to get as 4th seeds in a Champions League group.

RoPS and FC Honka in Europa League:

View attachment 355118View attachment 355117

FC Honka pulled off an impressive win over Freiburg to qualify for the group stages and have been rewarded with a decent group, whilst IFK have been given a good chance of making the knockout round with the group they have been drawn in.

A sea of green only spoiled by a couple of yellows after we drew after extra time in the Super Cup and drew 3-3 with MYPA in the league after we were missing 4/5's of the squad as they were travelling back from international duty. Overall though, we were very good and made our way through a congested fixture list with relative ease, even though there was 2 periods where we had to play 3 games in 4 days!

The draw against MYPA means we still haven't had a 100% season! We still averaged over 4 goals scored a game, but scored 3 less goals than last year and were 4 goals short of the goal difference record.

European Group Stages - 2028

View attachment 354641

Group Stage:

View attachment 354640View attachment 354639

A pretty solid group stage for the reigning champs, as we take 16 points from our 6 games and scored 17 goals in those games. The only dropped points came in an away draw against Porto, which I don't consider as being too bad of a result. Chilean attacking midfieler Medel was the star of the group stages, bagging 7 goals in 6 games including a hatrick at Anderlecht. We didn't get the best reward for qualifying though, as French giants PSG await in the 1st knockout round, which could leave us with an early exit on our hands.

IFK in Champions League:

View attachment 354638View attachment 354637

IFK put up a decent fight in their first ever CL group stage appearance. Despite only picking up one point from their group, they didn't take any big beatings despite their lack of quality in comparison to their opponents.

FC Honka and RoPS in Europa League:

View attachment 354632View attachment 354631View attachment 354630View attachment 354629

Both teams gave a good showing of themselves, narrowly missing out on qualification in third place. RoPS picked up 7 points from their 6 games whilst Honka picked up 5 in a harder group. We'll be the only Finnish team playing in Europe at the start of the new year, however none of the other sides embarrased themselves with their performances.

Club World Championship:

Champions of the world! A hatrick from Nigerian striker Ozokwo gave us an easy victory in the final over the champions of North America, bring the club world championship home to Finland!

I was pretty disappointed to not at least leave Paris with a draw here after 2 goals from winger Scheweleff had gave us a 2-1 lead in the 73rd minute. Unfortunately, 2 late goals from them meant they brought a 1 goal lead to Finland, however we did have 2 away goals to cling onto.

FC Inter Turku 6 - 0 PSG

View attachment 354147

An amazing 6-0 win in the second leg sees us fly through into the quarters, where we will play the team we beat in last year's final, Barcelona. The best thing about this game for me personally was the fact that all 6 goals where scored by Finnish players produced at the club.

Next up will be a Champions League update of the quarter final against Barcelona, and the semi final if we can make it past Barca.

Transfers:

View attachment 353801

No incoming transfers this season after making a few signings during the season last year. The only major outgoing was 32 year old winger Arza departing to Leicester on a free transfer. He was a really important player in helping progress the club in European competitions however it was time for us both to move on. Other 2 transfers are young Finnish players leaving on loan to get some first team football.

Finnish League Cup:

View attachment 353800

Another win of the 'pre-season cup', as I like to call it. For some reason we are never able to organize friendlies during the pre-season period so this is pivotal in helping us maintain/gain match fitness for the European knockout games.

Squad:

View attachment 353799View attachment 353798

Pretty happy with the squad as it stands, hence the lack of incoming transfers. Martin Vera (backup left back) is not far off gaining Finnish nationality and hopefully he'll take up the option of playing for the national team as we're not blessed with many good left backs.

Champions League Quarter Final:

View attachment 353796View attachment 353797

Unfortunately we will not be retaining our Champions League trophy as we're knocked out by the Spanish giants in the 1/4's. In the first leg at the Nou Camp we lost 3-2, after a late goal from Paraguayan striker Barrios gave them the win. Back in Finland for the second leg, we twice took the lead and looked like we were heading through on goal difference, however that man Barrios popped up with a late goal to send us out 5-4 on aggregate.

We make two big sales as Danny Norris moves to Tottenham for a record sale of £28,000,000, along with Klingenberg to Udinese for £8,500,000. Also, young Finnish right back left on loan to Atletico Madrid, who got relegated from the Liga BBVA last season!

View attachment 353373View attachment 353372View attachment 353371

Here are the two replacements for Klingenberg and Norris, bought for a combined £15,000,00 (a total profit of £21,500,000 on the two sets of transfers). They are both younger than the players they are replacing so it's a great deal all around.

View attachment 353369View attachment 353368

Finally, I went on a spree for under 19's with high determination to slot in our under 19's. SOme have joined already and the rest join some time within the next year. I doubt any will make it in the first team, however should be sold for a profit down the line and may be loaned to fellow Finnish sides to help them improve. Think I spent around £1,500,000 in total so shouldn't have any problem in making a profit. May continue to look out for these sort of details as we don't have many players in our under 19's.

We dropped a few more points this season as we drew 3 games instead of the usual 1 drawn game, however I'm going to take that as a positive in the sense that it shows the quality of opposition is improving ever so slightly. We are now unbeaten in 263 league games, and we also set a new league record for goals scored with 144 goals in 33 games!

A top group stage performance from us as we win all 6 games, scoring 26 goals and conceding just the 5. The highlight has to be putting 6 past FC Porto in consecutive games, showing how dominant we can now be on a European stage. We have been rewarded with a 1st knockout round tie against Bilbao, which shouldn't be any problem for us to advance from.

A poor return from these two teams as neither managed to muster up a win in the group stages and both finished bottom of their respective groups. However neither team took any batterings, which goes to show they are not far off the required level to be competitive.

The results went pretty much as you'd expect for the Finnish national team this year, with defeats to France and Germany in the qualifiers, and wins against the likes of the Czech Republic, Latvia and Kazakhstan. The only majorly disappointing result was the 2-1 defeat at home to Slovakia, which really affected their World Cup qualifying campaign.

If they had beaten Slovakia as they should have at home, then Finland would have got a chance to play a playoff game to try to qualify for their first ever World Cup. Germany, who took 2nd ahead of Finland, went on to lose to Turkey in the playoff round and so will not be at the World Cup in Italy. Finland will now have to look ahead to a European Championship qualifying campaign starting later this year, with the draw being made in the middle of February for the groups.

After going 1-0 up after 6 minutes at the Emirates I was pretty hopeful of our chances, but 84 minutes later at the end of the game at 6-2 down and it was a totally different story. In the second leg we restored some pride and won the return leg 3-1, missing a lot of chances in the process, however we fell 2 goals short. It was just one of those annoying ties where they seemed to score everytime they went forward whereas we were creating numerous chances but just not scoring enough.

The outgoing transfers were mainly loaning out the young players we have brought in over the past few months. We did sell young Finnish centre back Kunnola to HJK as he wouldn't sign a new contract and should significantly strengthen them. The main incoming transfer was left back Lagos from Anderlecht for £10,000,000, who'll become fist choice left back when we sell 31 year old Gardener in the summer (We needed to keep Gardner for the rest of the CL campaign as Lagos was ineligible due to playing in the tournament for Anderlecht).

View attachment 351979View attachment 351978View attachment 351977

Since the January transfer window has ended, we have agreed to sell keeper Warren Barnes to Genoa for £7,000,000, a great deal considering he is now 2nd choice and his contract would have been up in November. We have also agreed a deal to sell 31 year old midfielder Ousmane Toure for £4,600,000 to Metalist after he was complaining about wanting a new challenge. We've also accepted a £10,000,000 from AC Milan for Jodey Gardner, so I'd imagine he is on his way out also. Finally, we have agreed a £5,500,000 fee to bring in Scottish midfielder Nicholson from Celtic to take Toure's place in the squad.
